Cyanide poisoning is a painful death that takes a few minutes.
This will be challenged in court as cruel and unusual. They're just doing this to pose as tough for the voters. If they actually wanted to enforce the death penalty on people that deserve it, and didn't want to waste a bunch of time in court arguing about it, they would plan to fill that gas chamber with inert gas such as nitrogen, which kills in about 10 minutes with no pain at all. Workers have died of accidental nitrogen poisoning without even realizing they were dying.
