Jags trade for Calvin Ridley

How will adding Ridley to our WR room change the positioning? Is he a slot WR or a deep threat which allows us to move Kirk to the slot?

It doesn't change much. Just makes a Marvin Jones departure a near certainty.

Kirk is still your primary slot guy. He played there this past season on most of his snaps and will do so again most certainly.

This is not mutually exclusive of "deep threat" capability though. Kirk gets open deep front the slot regularly. And it would would be dialed up more often if our OL protected a beat longer than it does.

In reality - all of our 2023 top three receivers could effectively be the deep route on any given play.

Zay Jones and Calvin Ridley can alternate between the Z and X (outside) positions depending on what the Pederson/Press Taylor/Mike McCoy/(maybe Jim Bob Cooter) braintrust want to accomplish on any given play design.

Both Z.Jones and Ridley are technically Z-type players - but Pederson has shown he can get production from Zay Jones at X or at Z. He can do the same with Ridley, I'm sure.

Thanks for the explanation. I saw Kirk getting down field so open that I thought we had moved him outside.

As for MJJ, I read somewhere that he is looking for a team closer to San Diego next season.

I trust Ridley coming back from suspension much more than I do someone coming back from injury.

Also, even if he takes a year to knock off the rust and is exactly half the player he was in 2020. That's still 200 yards and 2 tds more than MJJ gave us this year.

I think he'll be just fine, with a relatively modest start to the season before dominating towards the middle/end.

He's WR1 if he's ready to go. He should be a constant concern for most defenses. He's an excellent route runner. Because of this he can be a deep threat, redzone threat and moved around anywhere.

Kirk and Zay should be able to benefit from this. Ridley gets open. He's really good in the play action game.

The only issue is that he needs a contract next off season. If he does take year to knock off the rust, you'd have decide to give him a new deal hoping he can get back to it.

Almost, the QB, 3 and 4 options are better now, but Smith and Taylor are HOF caliber players. I think TLaw, Taylor, and Jimmy Smith together might've competed with some of the greatest Triplet combos ever.

How long until the league allows him to be re-instated? Would they hold it up for any reason?

Definitely agree.

The offense is giving me 1999 vibes because they're going to be VERY dangerous. They can beat you with so many players and in different ways. I think ETN will be even better next season. However, it all hinges on Ridley.

We need our Boselli. I love skill players, don't get me wrong, but this team will transform with a good offensive line. Look at KC. I was mad at our D-Coordinator until I saw that Philly had the EXACT same problem. Mahommes was hurt and they still couldn't touch him. Good line is the most important thing we can do for this team.

That's more because of Mahomes than his Oline. He was pressured on 35% of his dropbacks and yet they still didn't sack him. The Eagles actually had more pressure in the SB than their season average of 32%.

I'm talking about in the second half. I'm not taking anything away from Mahommes. He's good. I agree that the Chiefs adjusted and were getting the ball out fast, but Mahommes could not scramble in the second like he did in the first. His line did a good job of keeping the eagles off of him in spite of his limitations.

This doesn't really need to be about Mahommes. Don't care to argue this too much. It's just my opinion that I would rather have a top 5 o-line than Calvin Ridley. I just think it's so important for the skill players to have one second more of time.

In Goodell's suspension letter to Ridley, the commissioner indicated "gambling on NFL games has been considered among the most significant violations of league policy warranting the most substantial action."  He gave him an "indefinite" suspension, not a 1 year or X number of games stated duration, with the ability to reapply for reinstatement today, 2/15/2023.  We all assume that Ridley's ability to reapply today means that it was a 1 year suspension, but it is no guaranty, especially given the integrity of the game violation.
