I'm with you there, and I loathe "equity" (purposely vague concept that leads to its own form of racism). I've served on several hiring committees at work. I've observed that the best candidates, regardless of skin tone, make their case to the hiring committee. It's usually obvious who's best for the job without having to resort to tiebreakers based on skin tone and other check boxes. That said, I think hiring processes should entail more than one interviewer and multiple interviewees. That way you don't overlook quality candidates and end up with a good ol' boy / nepotistic culture.

I mean, word hit us 4 weeks ago that JBC was taking multiple interviews.

It's not like this hire happened overnight.

They've been contemplating candidates for weeks.
