So...We're Really Keeping Baalke?

Lol ....the man who passed on Terrell Suggs to draft Leftwich and then the following year passed on Big Ben to draft Reggie Williams (because we already had our franchise QB)..

He also passed on Hall of Famer Troy Polamalu.

We can only hope but I have a feeling those hopes will be dashed

My thoughts on Baalke are based primarily on answering this question:

As things stand today, how hopeful are we now compared to 1 year ago following the playoff win over the Chargers and competitive game vs. the Chiefs?

Unfortunately, the level of hope right now is significantly less than one year ago. The reasons for this:

1. Going into last season, the team had obvious needs for a pass rusher, nickel back and POSSIBLY a center, though we were assured Fortner would get stronger and perform much better in his 2nd season. The strengths of the team were the receiving corps( with Ridley to be added), the cornerbacks and the quarterback.

As of today, the team still needs a better nickel (although Herndon did o.k.), another pass rusher from the outside (Walker had a good year, but most believe he's not a natural pass rusher from the outside and would be more effective if moved to a spot where he plays with his hand on the ground), another center ( no explanation needed), another guard, an interior defensive lineman, safety and POSSIBLY a new cornerback who specializes in man to man defense as opposed to zone. A wide receiver could also be added to this list depending on what happens with Ridley as well as another offensive tackle due to the uncertainty regarding Little's ability to replace Robinson.

2. Trevor Lawrence's performance regressed due to several reasons ( many not of his own making), yet our confidence level in him is not as high as one year ago. Unless the offensive line improves significantly (making it at least average), Lawrence's growth will continue to be compromised.

3. The coaching staff will be much different despite Pederson remaining at the top. This transition usually doesn't jell immediately and the defense is likely to be playing a much different scheme.

The one individual MOST RESPONSIBLE for our diminishment of hope is Trent Baalke. Had he done a better job acquiring new players during last off-season, the Jaguars would have won the AFC South and quite possibly at least one playoff game continuing to move in the right direction with the hopes of a Super Bowl in 2024-25. Instead, there is a case to be made that the team needs to upgrade/change as many as 3 offensive linemen, 1 receiver, 1 interior defensive lineman, 1 pass rusher and one cornerback (man to man specialist).

While I wasn't a math major, the number of upgrades needed is now 7- compared to 2 a year ago. Thus, the level of hopefulness is much less entering next season. Yet Baalke still has a job here and will be the individual most responsible for addressing these needs. I'm anxious to hear what he has to say tomorrow, but I'm as likely to believe him as much as the entire group of politicians who were running to become President in November!

Bro had a franchise-record 13 draft picks in 2023 and decided to select a backup TE in round 2 and a backup RB in round 3.

Hold up….then be drafted a Dlineman that hardly saw the field, then he drafted a DE that had 0 production, and a Punt Returner, and another dlineman that didn’t make the team.

Oh and he drafted a FB that used to play DE lol

He also kept Chaisson

Wowzers - I don’t know he can recover from this
