If Lions OC Ben Johnson becomes an NFL HC in the coming weeks, he would become the youngest NFL HC (compared to Jared Mayo) by around 2 1/2 months.  Texans OC Bobby Slowik, another NFL Assistant Coach drawing interest as an NFL HC, would probably be the youngest NFL HC, if he lands an NFL HC job this winter. Slowik is a few weeks younger than Ben Johnson.

The most surprising aspect at least to me, is Patriots Owner Bob Kraft didn't even bring Mike Vrabel, or anyone else outside the Patriots organization, for an interview.  Jared Mayo could turn out to be a great choice.  But why limit your options to such an extent?

According to reports, the Patriots already had a contract in place for Mayo to be the successor.

NFL Rumors: Bill Belichick, Falcons Have 'Mutual Interest' After Patriots Exit | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report

It's a pretty good team minus the QB situation.

If he thinks he knows how he's gonna fix/fill the QB spot and has ownership support, it could work.

My money was on him going into a more ready made situation, like the Chargers. He must not be feeling his age.

He wasn't the goat Brady was the goat...and without Brady he would have been average/good...his record without Brady proves this

I say well because every year during the glory years the NFL had issues, made new rules and fined them for breaking some rules. I personally would not call him the GOAT coach due to those improprieties and before and after Brady he had a losing record and was done.  (Brady wasn't however)

Bill Belichick Record
Before Brady - 45% winning record (36-44)
Brady - 74% winning record (237-83)
After Brady 43% winning record (29-38)

Did Kraft interview Vrabel that game they sat together in New England?

Been saying this for the past decade

Wait. How do you think they won those Super Bowls in the early 2000s? Brady wasn’t even that good at that point.

Brady certainly gets a ton of credit but in 2001 he threw 1 TD pass in their entire run to the SB.

Then in 2018 Brady only threw 2 TD passes in their run.

Well cheating obviously....the first year was a scam....that wasn't a tuck rule he completely fumbled...he was pump faking it and as the ball is coming back up it gets hit out....it was the perfect story for the NFL.... remember that was the year of 911 and what a greater story then the "Patriots" winning the Superbowl....and in that we had a so called tuck rule and the league and refs allowing pats to literally plow the field for FG kicks....and I do believe it came out later pats were videoing practices and walk throughs during the playoffs hence spygate.... The Pat's knew that the league help them out Goodell help them out and that started the whole refs/league etc calling games for the pats letting them get away with murder in fact helping them throughout the years after... it's almost like the Pat's had that over the league for years....well let you win if you don't say anything kinda crap

I saw that as well.

Bob Kraft clearly sees something he believes is special with Jarod Mayo.

My guess is Kraft was concerned that Mayo was going to leave New England to become a Defensive Coordinator elsewhere.  Hence, he reached an agreement with Mayo that he would be the next Patriots HC.

A downside of an agreement such as this one is when a HC change is ready to be made, someone unexpected like Mike Vrabel becomes available.

They signed Mayo after Vrabel was fired.

Which was still a shocker. I thought Vrabel was 100% Patriots next HC.

Will be interesting where he lands.

Interesting, that would be a good division for bb to make a run with a team that has some nice pieces.

But he has no QB.

Good luck. Not sure why he doesnt take the Dallas job. But then again Belichick doesnt seem like a guy that would want to work under a guy like Jerry Jones.

Where ever he goes odds are he will win 43% to 45% of the games.

He won't go to Dallas because all Jerry cares about is having the spotlight on him and being the face of the Cowboys he has no interest in sharing that spotlight.

Ironically, Jerry Jones 'led' the way in pushing for NFL playoff expansion.  If the previous NFL playoff format was still in place, the # 2 seed Cowboys would have had a bye in the 1st Round.  With the Packers, the # 7 seed under the current playoff format, not even being in the playoffs.

No, but the Falcons have the 8th pick.  There will be a good QB there when they pick.

Sounds like Belichick wants some Get Back at Brady. The Falcons would only hire him as HC if he brought Brady along. Brady said he'd NEVER play for him again so Belichick accepted the High School HC job where Brady's son attends. Do you think that he'll get some playing time?

Time Will Tell.

So not one owner has hired Belicheat.

Maybe they didn't want

1. to give him all the control over the team?
2. His 43% win rate before and after Brady
3. After watching the last few drafts they just didn't trust that dog in the draft room?

Bill is boned. No one, absolutely no one will hire him at his age with all the power. He is a retired head coach now, he just doesn't know it yet.
