Having Brees gives them a shot to win their division and get into the playoffs every year.. So yes, if they get hot after that, the window is still open.
And nobody in their right mind would take Brees over Luck, Brees is writing his final pages on the story of his career while the ink hasn't even finished drying on Luck's first chapter. It's the same reason why the Colts let Peyton walk in the first place.
