I don't get why, after you lose 3-1, you would say the other team isn't very good. That makes no sense to me. If that is the case, what's that make your team, terrible? I don't get the logic.
It's true, the USWNT isn't that good. A shot that was going wide gets deflected into the goal. Two scoring chances against the run of play were finished well; but Australia had two chances created by poor defense from the U.S. that would've been goals if not for Hope Solo. They couldn't find Lloyd or Holiday in the midfield, Wambach disappeared the whole game, they tried to get the ball to her every time.
The USWNT only held possession at the end of the game after it was 3-1.

Did we watch the same game? The first half wasn't pretty, but the US women dominated the second half.
I thought a very well played game by both the USWNT and Sweden. Very physical. US women had a ton of opportunities, just couldn't convert. US defense very good, Sweden not much of a threat offensively yesterday.
Their attack is lackluster. Not a good game in that regard.

Both Sweden and the U.S. played pretty good defensively which contributed to a lack of great opportunities. The U.S. still had plenty of opportunity to net one.

Morgan's injury is stalling the offensive attack. They really need her to play more than just 10-15 minutes.

Neither of them really tried to put a lot of pressure on the other. They were both more than happy to walk away with a tie.

Agree, no question.

For the last 25 or so minutes, yes.
Anyone watch the Canada/Netherlands game? Pretty intense and the Netherlands tied it up in the 87th minute. They are third in their division so they probably wont make it.
After that they flipped over to the China/New Zealand game. The New Zealand team was not too happy at the end of the game. The coach refused the handshake from the Chinese counterpart (the Chinese head coach somehow got the boot as well)
All in all, the games have been a lot of fun to watch.

They have been pretty good. Netherlands and China tied with no goal differential so I am not sure what the tiebreak is.
I think I watched every game that was on FOX. I don't get FS1. The last game I saw was Colombia's upset over France. Diana Ospina has got to be the angriest soccer player I've ever seen. I can totally see a Holiday/Ospina fist fight breaking out if we play them.

Lol, the Netherlands had no problem throwing shoulders at the Canadian players. Towards the end a Canadian player went up for a header and basically had her legs taken out from her. She landed hard on her hip/butt. It was pretty legit and they had to pull her out. The ref didn't even make a call on it. 100% deserved at least a yellow and possibly a red.
Female refs miss a lot at this level.

ARod did more off the ball in 20 minutes than Press and Leroux did all game. Morgan and Rodriguez up top would be more effective than what we've seen so far.
Also, Ellis is playing Carli Lloyd and Lauren Cheney in reverse roles; Lloyd should be the holding mid and Cheney attacking mid. You are gonna get more attack from them in that setup than what we've seen.

The best four #3's out of six go through. Thailand is already behind the Dutch so they just need one more to move on to the knock out stage.

Most goals scored. China has 3, the Netherlands have 2.
Quote:A few comments:
1: Does anyone mind if I edit the thread title and just make this the FIFA Women's World Cup discussion thread?
B: The Netherlands playing China right now.
Fourthly: I swear #18 of China is a dude.
Dang. Too bad Caitlynn is too old
BTW, the only way the Netherlands doesn't go through tonight is if Switzerland and Cameroon tie AND Nigeria beats the USA by exactly two goals.
Finally!!! Goooooooooooaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllll Wambach! Needed that before the half. Attacked to much, and had to many opportunities to come up empty at half.
They handled them for pretty much the whole game, but couldn't put it in the net.
Wambach worries me a bit. She isn't the player she once was. She was out on the edge for a bit yesterday and she just didn't seem to move well. Her height is her best asset though on the corners.
