I'd take Jimbo over Bowden as it stands right now.

I'd take Jimbo over the 160 year old Bowden

I'd take a 50 year old Bowden over a 50 year old Jimbo Fisher though (simply because I need to see more duration from JF).
Quote:Assuming we get the coaches in their Prime

1) Bowden

2) Spurrier - 5-8-1 in the Spurrier vs Bowden series

1) Spurrier - he owned Bowden.

2) Bowden - extremely innovative in the early days.

3) Saban - slightly ahead of Urb because he put Urb in the hospital.

4) Urb

5) Jimbo -- just needs to prove it now with another group of recruits (post-Winston era)

I TOTALLY STAND CORRECTED.   THANKS BIGJOHN !!!   MY rankings have been revised accordingly.

I guess I was thinking of the Spurrier vs UGA rivalry when I posted the original ranking & comment.

Now that you have correct. I can even remember a time when Florida fans were getting a bit upset with Spurrier because he puts beating Georgia as his top priority (and it seems to me that he still does) over even the FSU games which actually had National Title implications to it. But yes, Spurrier did indeed own Georgia.

Not I.
If we are speaking specifically on coaching alone and don't add into the equation that some coaches have sold their souls to the devil, I would probably go:

1. Urban

2. Bowden

3. Saban

4. Jimbo

5. Spurrier

What would the list look like for the selling their souls one?

I say Jimbo because come on, he turned us around a little too quickly don't you think? Urban and Saban don't need explanation. Spurrier reminds me of someone that if he did sell his soul he is enjoying it way too much. Bowden, while comes off like a good ole boy and a man of values, certainly had winning ahead of a lot of things no matter what he said...

I can agree with this soul selling list. For a while there Saban was on top, but I think Urban renegotiated his deal by probably offering up his first born child to the mix and now he's top dog again.

I'm sure Lee Miles would head that list. I'm all but positive that his grass eating ritual is some kind of voodoo.

Saban was yes, but Urban I think has raised the bar.

I'm thinking he's just crazy. No voodoo involved.

Crazy Voodoo!
ANOTHER THOUGHT

If I select Bowden, do I also get the PACKAGE DEAL of assistant coaches that he assembled in the 90s ?

Stop over thinking it!!!

I can't sleep at night since this topic of discussion was posted.  Between this and the hotness of Caitlan Jenner, my mind is running rampant
Using the Frank Beamer scale (winningest active coach in D1, captain of the second longest bowl attendance streak to FSU - who has taken two coaches to do so):

Coaches Vs. Frank Beamer

1. Bobby Bowden    8-1

2a. Nick Saban   2-1 (lost with LSU, won twice with 'bama)

2b. Jimbo Fisher    2-1

4. Urban Meyer    0-1

5. Spurrier    no record, afraid to play VT?

Interesting that this worked out pretty much the way I saw it before researching it.

So there you have it.

Bowden, Spurrier, Saban, Meyer/Jimbo.

In 1993 I had the pleasure to sit across the room from Bobby as he charmed the socks off the parents of a five starr recruit who was "Heck Bent" on playing elsewhere.

Bobby promised playing time and to watch over their son as one of his own. He got the young man to agree to visit the next week.

If Bobby got you to visit Tallahassee, you did not leave. He did not.

Only Bear Bryant was better in the living room with recruits and parents.

That said, Spurrier was just a smidge behind those two.

Those six coaches, including Bear have put how many players in the league, think about it.
