Quote:According to the recent article posted on NFL.com, Peter King has the off season Jags rated at #30 in the NFL power rankings with the team finishing the season with a predicted 3-13 record. Only the raiders and tacks are rated lower. Interestingly, the bucs are at 29 yet are predicted to finish with a worse record (2-14).

King goes on in a brief accompanying comment to say that our ranking is due to a lack of confidence (yet) in Bortles as being 'the guy' and due to an alarmingly bad stroke of luck with the Fowler injury. With that kind of 'ju-ju' going for the team, who can blame anyone for not having the utmost confidence in us having a decent season? This on top of what Vegas had earlier predicted to be a 5.5 win season, only to have that reduced to 1 win after the Fowler injury.

Nothing is going to change the NFL's perception of this team as a whole except winning. Not 'playing hard', not 'good sportsmanship', not 'positive self image'... winning, and winning alone is the only medicine that will cure what ails this franchise. Anything else is just... talk, the cheapest thing in the world.
He also talked about the Fowler injury and how it negatively affects the pass rush. The guy has no clue at what the pass rush was like last year. Pretty good. The lack of research that some of these national writers do astounds me, and King is supposed to be one of the better ones.

He talks about the Vikings and says "if they can find a pass rush" they'll be pretty good. You don't just find one sitting there in the off season. If you lacked one the previous season, then you won't become a great pass rushing team over night.
The good news is they have the chance to move up 30 spots, and at the risk of only losing 2 spots....sounds like fun.

That's probably about right. We haven't done anything to prove people wron.

I have no problem with the ranking. It's the rationale that gets used.
He ranks us there based on the results of last season and his opinion of our off season.  But opinions tend to lag behind reality in the national media for smaller market teams so until we prove otherwise, it's to be completely expected.  I'm concerned less with the national perceptions in June and more with the reality on the field come November and December.  Smile

That's higher than where I have Peter King ranked.
Quote:Fowler was worth 4.5 wins?
I don't get this either. I guess Fowler must be pretty important in PK's mind.
Quote:Muddylips, those were last years records.
Nope... this was what was posted earlier this year as the Vegas line on the Jags 2015 season.
I was listening to NFL Radio yesterday and tons of Raiders fans called in complaining about being ranked 31.  They said its Peter Kings opinion so why does it offend you so much, and if your team is great they will prove it in the season.

The fans saw it as a hurt to their pride according to a few fans.  I dont understand this way of thinking.

I am a fan of the NFL and the Jacksonville Jaguars but I dont get so emotionally attached as I feel my pride has been attacked by someones opinion of the team or the sport.  I think these people might need to seek other hobbies or events to seperate themselves from the sport if they are getting that emotionally attached to it.

Quote:WAAH!!!  The Jaguars are not #1 in the all important power rankings of some sports writer.

WAAH!!  The NFL perception of our team not being the best is WRONG!
I don't guess too many Jags' fans are losing sleep over a sports writers power ranking of the team. After all, the team has done little to contradict that ranking in recent years. In the final analysis, there's only one prescription for this team; win... and then win some more.

There's only one prescription for making a power ranking. Absent an actual game, just take last week's power rankings and repeat them.
The "tinhorns" are the ones that got screwed, ranked at #28 with a 9-7 record.  There are 12 teams above them with a worse record in 2014, and 3 that are tied.

How can anybody doubt this team when we are making splashes like Jeff Tuel? I'm being dead serious here. Jeff Tuel Sr. told me his son is a good QB.

C'mon muddylips, this stuff really isn't that complicated.

ok... so what's your point, if any?

Geez, man.  Those aren't predicted records, they were last year's records.  I don't understand why this is so difficult for you.

Let me help you with your next reply:  "Oh, i see what you mean i misread it, thanks!"

Okay, you say it was last seasons prediction, I say it was an earlier prediction for this season. I'll make this very simple for you; just produce evidence to prove me wrong. I know this may be difficult for you to grasp, but try to support your argument if you can.

Please, allow me to help you with your next reply; Oh... I found it, my mistake!

Wow, completely wrong and sassy about it to boot. That's an impressive amount of embarrassment you're putting yourself through.

As for proof, one only needs to look at Carolina and Cincinnati. It's unlikely Peter is predicting a tie for those two teams again this year, especially considering they don't play each other.
I rate us #32.  We are the laughing-stocks of the NFL..   that is almost indisputable.

I could care less about the playoffs, a .500 record, whether or not BB is 'the' guy, what kind of offense we run, who the coach is, and on and on ad-nauseum.  I want that bleepin' monkey of our back...

it's a sickening embarrassment that we are 'hoping' to reach 5-11.
