If every 1st round QB was a success and lived up to the pick, the entire league would have 32 elite QB's. It was a good pick for them because they needed a QB and he could end up being a solid QB, but he looked pretty bad tonight. It might be nerves or just the 'first-time-playing' scenario, but I just don't see him being an elite quarterback. Even when Bortles struggles, you can see flashes of potential and that "it" factor. Since its the tacks, I really don't care and hope he stays bad... Maybe they can go 0-16 too Smile

I'd much rather see them go 6 or 7 wins every season for the next decade just so that they're always out of range of the elite talent in the draft, and keep guys around that they shouldn't always thinking they're just on the brink of breaking through. Kind of like the Jaguars were for much of Del Zero's time.

Wow shocking he had two interceptions in 1st preseason game against NFL talent other than his own team who ranked 2nd worst in the league last year so they could pick him.

Well, actually no. He had one interception and a fumble. :teehee:
The few highlights of the game that I saw, the Titans are in trouble.  They need to put him on the sideline and start Zach Mettenberger if they want any hope of winning a few games.  It's just the first preseason game, but I think what really had him overwhelmed was the speed of the game.  He doesn't have the "red shirt" on.

Had 1 bad pass but other wise played great yup he's terrible alright...
Besides his pick I thought he played really well, TBH. He made some great throws. Overall though, Titans OL looked horrendous (at least their 1st unit, which is all I watched).

I thought he looked pretty good as well, Atlanta's defense if really bad though, might be the worse in the NFL.
Can't over react to a pre-season game, whether you think it was good or bad.

Huh?  I'm over reacting right now just fine.

I would have to disagree, though I only watched the highlights on NFL.com.  He looked like a rookie that was overwhelmed.  Can he get better?  Possibly, but if his first preseason game is any indication, it might be a long season for Titans fans.
I watched a lot of the game trying to get the Jags game to load.  Mariota did not impress me outside the two bad turnovers.  It remains to be seen if he can effectively take snaps from under the center and see the field well.  He seems to rely very heavily on his check downs.  Doesn't have the gusto or arm strength to attack the field with NFL DB's back there.

<p style="margin-left:40px;">"Mariota showed what many have said about him: He doesn't get fazed or caught up in the moment. The coaching staff raved to me about his ability to bounce back.

<p style="margin-left:40px;">On paper, this first outing might look like a disaster. A deeper dive will show the there was a lot of good to come out of all that bad.

<p style="margin-left:40px;">It's only one game, but there were signs that make me think this kid could end up being a lot better in the pocket than I ever imagined."

Prisco makes some good points.  But when he falls for a QB, Prisco really falls hard.  I don't think this is an exception.

After all, "it's only one game."

After watching Mariota's performance on NFL network this afternoon it just looks like he's not ready to be a starting QB in the league this season. He looked okay running with the titans starters against the falcons backups, but really I'd hope a top talent at QB looks great running a first team offense against another team's backups, not just good. He always looked like he didn't really get what was going on in front of him, but once he was playing against backups he could get enough time and the receivers enough separation for him to be able to make it work. Like I said, I'm not buying him as a true top tier QB talent, but if he's ever going to make it there it's going to take some time and some pain, because if Wisenhunt lets him lean on the crutch of just doing what he's always done and is already comfortable with then he'll probably never make the transition.
It's just the preseason but he looks pretty good to me.
Mariota looking pretty good tonight. Made a couple nice throws and threw for a TD. It's really amazing how good guys can look when they are given good protection.

Better than last week. His team is simply playing much better. Their defense got a score and the running game has been great, plus defenders are dropping INTs. In general the titans look much better tonight than last week.
If the Titans are smart they'll flip Mettenberger foe something pretty soon. He's a starting QB in the league but will not get the chance behind Mariota.

If they were smart they wouldn't have drafted Mariota to start with and instead traded the pick to one of the QB desperate teams in the league to surround Mettenberger with more talent.

We view things differently. IMO They made the right choice in selecting Mariota. If they can get something for Met now you can use it to help Mariota going forward. I think ultimately how we view the situation is based on how we expect Mariota to develop. I feel he will develop into a good QB while many believe he's a system QB who's not going to be anything special.

In any event they drafted Mariota and Met is playing well so why not flip him to a QB needy team and help bolster your future draft classes.
