Quote:I dunno. It's kind of fun to watch Rico and StuperFan try and drink paint.

Didn't paint used to have lead in it? When you think about it...it kind of explains a lot about those two!

What's you excuse?

:woot:
Shame.

Reggae Sundays were actually kinda' fun ten years ago before that place became a jerk store.

Who said I needed an excuse? Tongue

It was a zoo this past weekend.  I was in the area on the motorcycle.  The traffic around the place was at a dead stop thanks to the ambulances and police that were called in to address the beatings.
The bouncer who knocked the guy out unconscious and then pushed him into the water should go down as attempted murder.
Quote:I'd love to see the background checks on some of these "security guards."  There's a point in the video where they almost seem to be baiting people.  They should have been acting quickly to diffuse the situation, but they were doing pretty much the exact opposite.  Regardless of whether the clientele is intoxicated or not, you don't go around basically daring people to do something so you can deck them.

I've seen Roadhouse enough times to know that a good bouncer needs to expect the unexpected, always take it outside, and most importantly, be nice.

The big guy especially actually starts talking trash to people that come into his area.

The owners of the Conch House need to change their image asap.

Thread derailment attempt...give yourself a warning.

Agree
Conch House announces they have cancelled Reggae Sundays until further notice.

Sad that a few can ruin something so many enjoyed, but for the best until they can clean house.

Police say a bouncer is a suspect, I can safely assume he's one.  Likely more, from what the video shows.
Typically, if I walk in a place and see that many security personnel, I walk right back out. Hell, I don't like when the places I go have that many patrons.

Oh, and wasn't this place a quiet, laid back restaurant twenty something years ago? I don't remember anything like this.

It's a quiet, laid back restaurant pretty much 5-6 days a week.
BTW, with abusive security staff like this, I'd be amazed if Conch House doesn't wind up getting sued by one of these patrons who ended up knocked out cold by one of these goons.

The lawyers are hovering around like vultures right now, I'm sure!

Doesnt that describe most of the nightlife in NE Florida?

Most "nightlife" in any city are places that are better to avoid.

Probably. I'm not in FL often enough to know for sure - and I'm on the wrong side of 40 to know what people think "nightlife" is supposed to be these days.  I know they're doing it wrong at the Conch House.  That's for sure.

I've had a good time at a number of Jax live music venues/bars on recent trips.  Had to endure a few amateur alcoholics, but no violence.

99.999% of the places like this in Jax are violence free.  In the case of the Conch House, recent reports where violence has flared up usually revolves around bouncers being aggressive.  I've been to larger venues where you've got a diverse crowd, plenty of alcohol flowing, and live bands playing and the security staff is well behaved.  Amazingly, nobody winds up getting a beat down from the bouncers.  If there are problems, they usually handle it so professionally that only those immediately around the situation are aware of what's going on.

You're right.  There are always going to be a few amateur drunks to contend with, but the staff usually is trained to recognize a situation and they deal with it before it escalates.

I've seen security at larger venues like EverBank diffuse a situation where drunk and/or unruly fans got into brawls where the cops were able to end the fight without ever having to raise a hand.

Watching the video from the Conch House, these bouncers looked like a traveling band of thugs just looking to decompress their roid rage.  These weren't professional security people.  They're wanna be MMA fighters.  Big difference.  A friend of mine (former pro wrestler) who owns a security company in NYC protecting celebrities and other notables would never allow his guys to get out of control like this.  Too much liability.  When you see the way some of these people were knocked out cold by bouncers, imagine the crap storm if one of those people died from their injuries?  Conch House would cease to exist in pretty short order, either because lawsuits would bankrupt them, or because people would stop coming to the place.
I was about to say the same thing FBT said above. Professional security will diffuse a situation without ever resorting to sucker punching people.

These guys were clearly looking for a situation that allowed them to act the way they did.
