The take away I'm getting is that he threw 16 INTs and ~4 of them weren't his fault.

Number 13 above did actually hit Lee's foot after hitting his fingertips- but you are thinking of the tinhorns game in November when Blake threw a backward pass to Yeldon that hit his foot and Mercilus caught the deflection. Not technically an INT due to backward pass. Ruled a fumble.

Got it.

If any play epitomizes #becauseJaguars, that's it.

Hand it off a ton and just not turn it over. Problem is the fact he always turns it over. Hopefully Marron and company can pull some magic.

I'm thinking most of his turnovers are when he's outside the pocket, and I'm wondering if there are numbers anywhere to back this up. Bortles has a great feel for the pocket and that includes knowing when to escape, but when he's outside the pocket and trying to throw... that's where the turnovers happen. I think when he gets outside, if he's not already knowing where he wants to throw to, he should just tuck and run.
Couldn't disagree more, most of BB5's turnovers (fumbles and picks) came from when he was in the pocket, when he bootlegs/gets outside the tackle box he's one of the top rated passers in the league the last 2 years, he's SIGNIFICANTLY better throwing on the run than he is throwing from the pocket.
And yet he still only averages 4 wins a year.

That's not what I was saying TTR. Again, I'm not talking about his throwing ability outside the pocket which was never in question. I'm talking strictly about his ability to feel pressure. I know I was wrong about the INTs, but that doesn't change my point about his ability to feel pressure. When he's inside the pocket he has a pretty good feel for the pressure around him, but when he gets outside I've seen him totally blind-sided where he had no clue the defender was coming.

This is true for 29 of the starting quarterbacks in the league though.

The entire point of working from the pocket is that you are surrounded by 5, 6 sometimes 7 players with specific blocking assignments and your peripheral vision can learn and adapt to "feel" when one or more of those protections is failing.

Outside the pocket all of that structure goes away and very few athletes have that keen awareness to "feel" a defender once removed from that controlled environment as it becomes much, much more unpredictable.

Watching young Ben Rothlisberger and Aaron Rodgers or McNabb back in the day extend plays outside the pocket the way they do/did is a very rare thing. Not many have that innate ability.
In the minicamp, I've spotted UDFA WR Keelan Cole a couple times as well as RB Corey Grant a few times catching passes. Also, Greene got a positive mention from Bortles in a post-game presser.
Watching marrones presser and the guy is so much different than bobblehead. He speaks like a coach, a leader. When he said he wasn't here to make friends just here to win football games, that in itself was refreshing to hear instead of "let's just get better everyday" crap. I don't think marrone will put up with too much crap, I like it.

i agree. The guy seems like a no nonsense person that this team really needs. With all the youth on this roster, they need vets and coaches with a professional mentality to acclimate to the highest level of the game. We are constantly starting a large number of rookies and having that sort of personality, not just from vets playing their position, but as a HC leader is something i think would be really important when going from being a college player to a professional.

I spoke with Freddy T one time at a hotel bar and he said one of the key figures that helped him acclimate from life at UF to the Pro's was "little man" James Stewart. He went on about how he showed him how to adapt to the locker room and how to handle yourself in everyday life which is something i never really thought about till that conversation.
Aways liked this guy. One of the more underrated players on the depth chart imo.

I think they really do like Josh Johnson, but they keep bringing in CBs making me wonder just how many they'll keep. You know their keeping  the top three... Ramsey, Bouye and Colvin... and then Myrick as a draft pick should make it ... So, Josh Johnson makes five.

Give several recent moves at CB, I suspect Myrick is kept as a 6th CB being more of a ST guy, and that they'll keep one more as their 5th CB. Assuming there is a 6th overall spot up for grabs at CB, there are a slew of contenders... Doran Grant, Taurean Nixon, Tyler Patmon, Brian Dixon, Tracy Howard and Ezra Robinson.

If they only keep five total CBs, Johnson better keep it up.

Also, as it relates to the thread... Myrick was one a standout at CB in the minicamp.
