Maybe the team makes him to safety?

I live next to the city Ace is from, and a lot of his cousins go to my high school. And it's funny because they all think he's sooooo good. Yesterday a guys said "Ace is the best player on the Jaguars". Come to find out that ignorant fool is his cousin.

I'd probably think he was better than he was too if he was family.  I wonder what their response will be when he's cut.

Its no surprise friends and family want to see him do well and over hype their guy. Now to the reality of the situation, flat out, he's toast. What did him in was Rashad Greene getting drafted, essentially Ace Sanders on steroids, who actually can play receiver and probably return punts. He already had an uphill battle even before Rashad Greene, now, that hill is now mount olympus and theirs no way he can get to it. I expect him to be released maybe even before minnie camp, as a service to him so he can hop on another roster. He has no shot to make this team, he literally has to beat out a guy they drafted to replace him, like literally he would need to be Devin Hester in training camp.

I think he was a very nice guy who was really friendly to the fans, but it just never worked out, it happens. I think its best for him to just move on because he does have a chance to make another NFL roster. We already have WR camp bodies, i think its a big disservice to Ace to be kept on this roster just because he's a body. He has no shot, none.

Sure you can...it's a nice long wait too.
Quote:Well that's exactly it.  He just isn't doing anything.  With how much potential our skill players have, he's the one guy that stands out with a huge "MEH".  I don't think it would be that hard to find someone to do just as good of a job as him, but someone that has more potential.

Sure.  But there are 30 other players you can same the same thing about.  Why is Ace being singled out?  It's not like he's seeing the field on offense either.  He was playing less than 10 snaps per game.

Quote:A guy that causes negative media attention with his suspension comes back and fumbles the ball and drops easy catches, and pretty much does nothing last year except be a distraction.  Why would you keep him?

He only had 7 targets last year and caught 6 of them.  He lost one fumble... He was ok his rookie season.  I'm not arguing that he should make the team, but again, I feel like Ace is quickly becoming the board's new scapegoat.  There's always gotta be one or two.
It appears some folks don't care about improving the roster as much as they want to be on record as predicting the removal of a particular player.

How is he being singled out?  You can find a thread for probably nearly every player on our team.
Ace is kinda singling himself out..
The best thing that could happen to the Jaguars (and Ace) is if this draft motivates him to raise his performance to the level we all expected.

The best thing that could happen to the Jaguars (and Ace) is that some team offers Caldwell a draft pick for him.

Won't happen...
Quote:I don't understand why he gets so much hate. Sure, he did next to nothing last season, but he didn't hurt the team. There are lots of other players that did less than him or hurt the team at some point.

Because he was a fourth rounder!  Must Pro Bowl!!

Ace Sanders missed 1 target last season and lost 1 fumble returning punts. He was pretty middle of the league in punt returning. Certainly upgradeable, but lets not act like it was this guy losing us games.
But that's just the point; he's done next to nothing all but one season here... and that does hurt the team! The Jags aren't in a position to have many players who are just 'sitting on the shelf getting high'; we need production from all the roster. Keep in mind Ace isn't a rookie any more either. A veteran player who isn't producing is a liability; there is no straddling the fence on the issue... you're either producing or you're not. If you're not, you're not helping and therefore a liability since you're taking a roster spot from someone who maybe could help.

well... patience is a virtue worth developing I suppose, and what a grand opportunity to stretch your patience this will be!

I don't think he's questioning why he should be cut, just questioning the vitriol aimed at him by a few.  It's been pretty over the top, actually.  If he's cut, he's cut and that means the team is getting better.  No need for a parade of torches and pitchforks sending him off.

Exactly this.

What did people expect from a 4th rounder who had Cecil Shorts, two 2nd rounders, and a receiver who stepped up like Hurns did in front of him. He contributed as a 4th rounder his rookie year and then we found better receivers and buried him on the depth chart. This isn't surprising or earth shattering. When Ace has been on the field, he's been adadequate, but easily upgradeable.
Ace improved as far as punt returns goes between 2013 and 2014.  If he can step up his game, I think he could earn a spot on the roster.  But we really need someone who can get at least a 30+ yard punt return now and again.

I like Ace. No reason to cut him. I think he is a pretty good receiver. Would be a little disappointed if he is cut.

perhaps it's just the social phenomenon of wanting to 'gang pile' on someone who's down. We've witnessed it here on this forum many times...
