Quote:In Jags239's sig, does TJ actually take a step in reverse at about the 22-yard line? I've seen stop-and-go moves before, but I've never quite seen that.

Also, has anyone considered a potential role for Yeldon in the return game?
Thats Ace Sanders.

Yeldon is a perfect fit for the return game - he has great vision, good open field moves and high acceleration with enough speed to get some yards. Don't know if he did it or not though.
Quote:Hes a bigger version of post injury MJD. Lost his break away speed but still has good power and short area wiggle to him. Good hands and blocker too.

The 3rd round pick made me like Yeldon all that more. Now that the offensive line is a strength, pound the ball to set up the play action. Yeldon and Denard compliment each other perfectly.

They brought in all their guys on offense, time to sink or swim.

Eh I wouldn't go that far. He has more wiggle and more explosiveness than MJD at that point.
Quote:It's not really inflated. It's just not on the notoriously slow track at Indy with an electronic timer.

The point of the combine is so that you can compare these players evenly. If you're going to trust Yeldon as a low 4.5 guy, then you need to do the same for the other players as well. 4.5 is "fast" in Indy. It's slow on most pro day/campus hand time.
He looks way more like Fred than MJD but without the home run threat. If he was fully like Fred he would have been picked long ago. Fred's physical ability was all world
Quote:Or maybe other GMs realized what some of us have been saying...there's very little difference between each of these backs. Even Dave commented before the draft that you can find one in the 4th through 5th round. There was no need to draft Yeldon at 36th.
If you watch his press conference he mentioned that he had 3 RBs he was targeting and the first two went in the first round. He said there was some drop off after Yeldon. Looking at where the other RBs were selected his board was correct.

We'll find out how that drop off is. I don't believe that to be the case, which is why I'm willing to wait in the 3rd-4th round. Either way, we were fortunate to grab Cann in the 3rd round. That softens up the blow of taking Yeldon in the 2nd. Though the FS hole is still....worrisome.

There's still plenty of FS prospects available. Off the top of my head we have Ifo, Josh Shaw, Prewitt, and Holliman. Its not time to panic yet.

Call me crazy, but I'm not projecting Ace to make this year's top 53.

My man Krayz!!!!! Im with you my dude. Yeldon is a great asset He's a great compliment to denard. He's what we need.

I will say this, compared to the previous Alabama running backs,,

He is certainly more instinctive than Trent Richardson, he has better vision and is better in the open field.

And I think Eddie lacy is more decisive, one cut and go, than both...

I certainly think he is his own breed though,,, hard to say he is more like either one... I do think he will be better than Richardson for sure,,, Yeldon sees things as opposed to kind of stumbling into them...

JMHO
I'd like him - in round 3. Round 2 was over valued.

Charley Casserly said Yeldon was his favorite pick of the 2nd round on NFL Network after the draft was over this evening. I like Casserly and it has nothing to do with that comment. Nice to be highlighted by an analyst, though what really matters is what happens on the field. Looking forward to seeing our running game improve this year.
i like the words, top pass protection backs in the game.

It was a great pick. The second it leaked on twitter I fist pumped like Judd Nelson in my avatar. The guy is gonna be a stud for us. He is the whole package and can do everything a franchise back should be able to do. I thought for sure we'd pull the trigger on Ajayi or Coleman but Yeldon has always been my dark horse. I can't wait to watch all the folks on here eat crow this season.

Last year everyone said how Dave had a great draft. This one is too but some people just can't see it yet. They'll eventually catch up.

my friend was telling me a few weeks ago he watched an interview with an Alabama TE who played with richardson, lacey, i think he said ingram too? idk, and yeldon, and that yeldon was better than all of them, which i agree with..

he out played lacey when yeldon was a freshman

he has all the tools you want in a stud RB.. agility and lateral movement is key... strait line speed is overated, and he has plenty of it anyways
I haven't been blown away by any running back this draft but even so, Yeldon impressed me as much as anyone.   So I'm a homer on this pick.

You know, that's been a popular theory.  Ace wasn't good returning punts last year, and it's repeatedly said that he must make the squad based on special teams.

At the same time, I actually really liked his contributions at receiver in his rookie year.  I do wonder if he couldn't serve as that short area quickness / shifty / YAC guy in the slot.  Probably not how it all works out, but I do ask myself if I've already written him off prematurely.
It took a long time for another RB to come off the board after Yeldon. That right shows you how highly Yeldon was graded over the others. Lots of RB's are still on the board.
Quote:I dunno...how can you hate on this?

TJ

6'1" 227 = college career - 3,322 yards 37 TD in three years

Guess who another Jags back was in college career

6' 1" 228 = college  3,075 31 TD in four years

we drafted him 9th

If ypou guys saw Freddie T out there today you'd pass?

I see similar moves...how can you hate on TJ?

Not like it's easy building stats like that in the SEC.
Whoa easy now.. Same height and weight but thats it.... Freddy T was faster than Yeldon running backwards and their moves are nothing alike.

If you look at his tapes you can see he is not a 4.6 runner. I don't know why he ran that at the combine, but on the field he is not a 4.6 runner. His foot movement in the hole is good and I love that spin he has. I think we now have enough running backs in our stable to keep the defense honest. Last year I saw way too much of the 5&6 man box. Especially after D-Rob went down. That isn't always a bad thing except we still couldn't run. Course some of that was o-line, but I hope we have got that worked out also.

If the Gator works out, I think we did really good on our first 3.
