There are the usual rumors of all sorts of things, and here is the rumor of a possible trade with Atlanta. Caldwell worked for Atlanta GM Thomas Dimitroff, and Atlanta's new HC, Dan Quinn, recruited Dante Fowler to UF. So the rumor is that Atlanta might make a trade with us and then pick Dante Fowler at 3.

No team should move up or down in the draft without having a player targeted for their new spot. So what player fits for us at pick #8? Assuming the two QBs get drafted first and second overall, can you name 6 more players we would like to draft, so we would be assured of having a player fall to us at pick # 8?
I can. In no particular order, Williams, Fowler, Cooper, White, Beasley, Gurley. We would wind up with one of those.
So let's say we make the deal because we would be assured of getting a player we want at # 8. And then the draft goes like this: Winston, Mariota, Fowler, Cooper, Williams, White, Beasley. Who is your pick? Gurley? Dupree? Trae Waynes? Scherff? Devante Parker?
Gurley.. But what do the jags get besides just the 8 pick?
I would hope the bounty of picks is worth the move down to 8, as the remaining choices are a step down in talent from the 3rd pick. It would be between Gurley, Dupree, and Parker for me. As I think I would be able to find a decent WR and RB in a later round, I would probably take Dupree.

Let's just say it's a given that we get enough to make the move. The question is, who is acceptable to us at 8, because unless there is someone there that we think is worth that pick, we shouldn't trade.
Give me one of Beasley, Gurley, Dupree, or Parker.

Its a good chance Dupree is there in the 2nd ... We both know Gurley wont be. So take him if he is there at 8.. get Dupree later.

Bud Dupree won't even sniff the 2nd round.

Yea maybe.. but it is he worth reaching for at 8 ? I don't think so..
It does seem like the Atlanta trade down is the most likely scenario right now, and thank God it appears it would be so the Falcons could get Fowler. That would be a great scenario as long as we come away with virtually anything available there but a friggin top 10 overall RB (and OL of course).

I've seen Dupree mocked to Atlanta at 8 all over.
Anyone who thinks Beasley is too small to be the best LEO in this class should have Dupree as their best LEO (unless you still love Gregory).

Why not a top 10 RB? When that's a glaring position of need for the jags and you have a RB in Gurley said to be a top 10 pick and was the best player in college last year before he got hurt..Im just saying...
YoBoy... using Mayock's just released top 100 list, Dupree is ranked 11. Gurley is ranked at 19. Parker is at 9.

Because it is proven year after year after year that it is not hard to field a good rushing attack with a cheap and specialized RB stable. Denard, Gerhart, and a day 2 RB (or preferably good scheme fit day 3 RB even) can be plenty good. Our run game is going to be much better this year even if we added zero help. Joeckel is poised to take a step forward. We got a huge, nasty upgrade at RT. We have a former top 10 C (or a year better C w/ Bowanko) in the fold. Our RG is a monster. Our LG is another year gelled with his new team. Toby hopefully won't get a high ankle sprain week 1 and then try to play through it for a month.
We were the youngest offense in at least the last decade, and maybe even a lot longer. I don't think we need to spend enormous draft capital to draft an RB to have a much improved run game.

"The offense helped make the Jaguars the youngest team in the league, and adding a 27-year-old Julius Thomas should only help maintain that. Marcedes Lewis (31) hadn't shined since the 2010 season. We have SWA data back to 2006 and the Jaguars are the youngest offense (24.7) on record."

Mikes list is just one of many different list. I can use Mcshay or Kipers everyones list gonna be different..
But my question is do you believe Gurley is one of the top 10 best players in college?
I don't see Caldwell trading down. He says his phone hasn't rang in regards to potential trades. So I guess that means he's not actively seeking a trading partner or he'd be calling people.
Atlanta has said they've put out feelers on moving both directions up and down to get an idea of cost. To me this means that Caldwell knows who he wants and if he's still available doesn't want to risk losing him in a trade down.
Baseley would end up being the pick. If he's not there then probably Gurley ? The trade makes sense, but if we did go through with this, we would be receiving at least a 2nd & maybe a 4th. If not their first next year..This could very well happen.
We need to come away from the first round with a star player. If that's a receiver, a pass rusher, lineman, whatever.

Gurley, White, Parker and Waynes in that order.
Bortles needs help, first and foremost.
While the receivers we drafted /acquired last year were a good start, Bortles needs more weapons to take the pressure off of him. One of the best ways to help a young QB is to give him a running game. I think with the addition of Parnell and Wisniewski, the offensive line should be improved enough to provide that running game. However, as impressive as Robinson looked at times last year, to me he is more of a change of pace type of back. Gurley can be that every down, between the tackles type of back. The only concern I have is the knee. By all accounts his knee checks out fine, but I am somewhat fearful that he won't be the Gurley we watched at Georgia until sometime next year. Otherwise, I think under this scenario, he would be a great fit.
You could make the argument that despite the influx of receivers last year, we still need a number 1 guy to make the receiving corps complete. Enter White, who has drawn some comparisons to Larry Fitzgerald. I see him more as a cross between Fitzgerald and Julio Jones. Nevertheless, adding him to our group would give us a formidable group. My concern here is that West Virgina WRs historically have not fared very well, but this guy has the best combination of size, speed, and overall ability than any of his predecessors.
Parker would be the next choice, for many of the same reasons listed above. Bortles needs help, Parker could be a stud #1 WR.
Waynes could fill the FS position very well, and give versatility to play CB. He's got good size and speed, and played good competition in the Big Ten.
Cooper, Beasley, or Gurley at that point since I'm assuming Williams will be gone by then.
