Forget the Adrian Peterson trade scenario. What would you all think about this draft?  Cleveland trades up to #2 with Tennesse to get Mariota.  Then the Saints, who have done some wacky things this off season, come calling to trade up to #3.  In this scenario, the vikings take Gurley at #11 (I think Adrian Peterson ends up in Dallas).  Dave Caldwell decides not to wait on a RB and grabs Melvin Gordon, knowing that a very good LEO will still be there at the end of round 1. Then we get a starting FS in round 2, and dynamic slot WR in round 3 with Phillip Dorsett (not sure he lasts this long come draft time).

1. (13) RB Melvin Gordon - Wisonsin

1. (31) LEO Eli Harold - Virginia

2. (36) FS Eric Rowe - Utah

3. (67) WR Phillip Dorsett - Miami

3. (75) DE/DT Xavier Cooper - Washington State

4. (103) ILB Ramik Wilson - Georgia

Not realistic?  I think Gurley and Gordon are special, and all the RB's after them can be interchanged and are a toss up.  I would prefer Gurley, but Gordon is healthy now and would give us some star power and be the scoring threat we need.  Here's how it plays out:

If we stay at #3 and take Leonard Williams, who we don't need really, we are just going to end up having to use the 2nd round pick on a LEO (probably Eli Harold or Danielle Hunter) anyway, so why not trade #3 and get some extra picks while filling just about all of our needs with dynamic players AND getting a clear cut starting RB, not "just a guy to compete"?

I think this particular scenario is unrealistic. The Saints are in rebuild mode. They aren't giving up that many picks for one player. They need to completely restock their own offense.

Especially when Dupree or Gregory will most likely be there at 13 anyways...

In this scenario they are. Along with Ray.
I dont see Harold falling that far. I would also rather rather stay with the 3rd pick
I admit it is far-fetched, but the Saints have done some wacky things this off season, and this just goes along with that premise.  Also, Atlanta might take Bud Dupree at #9 now, so that might play into the Saints strategy.  I don't think they will want Gregory with his baggae, and Ray seems to have fallen off some.

More realistic might be the Titans taking Leonard Williams after nobody offers them what they feel is enough for #2, then the Browns offering Caldwell some picks and he takes the deal.

Maybe something like this.  I'd love this one:

  1. TAM – QB Jameis Winston

  2. TEN – DT Leonard Williams

  3. CLE – QB Marcus Mariota (from JAC for 12, 19, 3rd
    </sup>

    , 2016 1st)

  11. MIN – CB Trae Waynes

  12. JAC – RB Todd Gurley

  13. N.O. – DT Danny Shelton

  14. MIA – WR Dorial Green -Beckham

  15. S.F. – CB Marcus Peterson

  16. HOU – OT La’el Collins

  17. S.D. – RB Melvin Gordon

  18. K.C. – WR Breshad Perriman

  19. JAC -  DE Shane Ray

Especially for an average pass rusher. Maybe a QB.
If we could get Gurley/Gordon and Harold/Gregory I would be completely on board.
Looks like you have it all figured out. Im on board with this line of thought
I wouldn't draft Gordon that high, especially when there are other quality RBs in round 2 & 3.
No to Gordon that high and no to Shane Ray in any scenario.
I wouldn't take a running back anywhere in the top half of the first round and I'm a huge, huge Gurley fan.

I understand RB's have been "devalued" by the NFL, but Gurley and Gordon are special talents.  They will most likely both go in the 1st round.  Some people are saying, "I'd only one of them in the late 1st round."  Who cares if we take one of them in the late 20's or in the early teens?  What difference does it make, as long as we get one of them?  Both would be the dynamic RB and star we need on this team to be a clear cut starter, not just a guy to compete, like all other RB's will probably be.  We need somebody to score TD's more than we need somebody to sack the QB.  We were top 10 in sacks last year, but terrible in scoring.  A stud RB will only help Bortles, who is going to need all the help he can get.

There are plenty of LEO's to be taken later in the draft outside the 1st round.

With the signing of Odrick, Leonard Williams is almost the last thing we need, but unfortunately I have a feeling Caldwell will feel pretty much forced to pick him at #3 due to the consensus he is the best player in the draft.  Just our luck.  Don't need the position at all, but we get the "best player" in the whole draft.

Of all the possible reasons to pick someone over Williams I find this one to be the absolute worst.

"Don't need the position at all"

Really?

Give me the I like this guy over Williams... but we don't have two Pro Bowl DT/DE on the roster...Both starting DT are coming off injury and Marks will most likely miss all of the off season and will hopefully be back by the start of the season.

Don't need the position at all?
That's a terrible draft
I'm not really feeling that.  Plus, though I think the Jaguars would have some opportunities to trade down, I can't see the Saints trade happening at all.  I would have said the Browns trade was far fetched too if I hadn't heard the rumors they'd be willing to do that.  But apparently Tennessee wanted their 2nd rounder too and the Browns wasn't into that.  Seems to me like the Browns have the leverage, they can just trade to #3 instead since I doubt another team would offer more than that.  But then again that could all be made up.

I can't see any RB going in the top 15, let alone two..

If there's one thing I can say about this draft for certain, its that Dave isn't going to let anyone, especially the media, twist his hand into picking someone he doesn't want at any spot/round

So if we ended up with Melvin Gordon, Eli Harold, Eric Rowe and Phillip Dorsett you would be disappointed?

Or it's a "terrible draft" because you don't believe it is realistic as far as the players being available where they are picked here?
