Would have been nice to get him. Oh well.
On to the draft.
On to the draft.

Really think we draft a WR early now. Missed on Cobb and Jennings who were the only ones we made a genuine play for. Obviously an area we want to upgrade.

I don't think the Jennings situation is going to dictate how the team drafts. I'm pretty sure the only thing influencing what they'll do, especially early in the draft, will be what happens with picks 1 and 2. If the Jags want to add a veteran receiver, they'll still have an opportunity to do so before the season starts.

After watching Caldwell make efforts to sign Cobb and then Jennings, it is quite apparent he sees a 'ready to play' higher-quality starting caliber WR as a team need. The available pool of free agent veteran WRs may now be no better than the group of WRs he has on the roster that he wishes to upgrade. If that is the case, the Jennings decision to go with Miami may not 'dictate' his draft plans, but it may 'influence' Caldwell in considering a WR at certain picks. Upon his arrival, Caldwell did profess himself to be generally a needs based drafter, and more best available later in the draft.

How do the dolphins keep signing all these top FAs? Seems like it happens every year.

Cobb, yes. Jennings, no.
I am sure Caldwell was only offering Jennings less money or only a one year deal. I don't think Jennings going to MIA changes much.

And look where it gets them.

The question you asked will probably be asked next year at this time. And knarnn's reply will likely be a great reply again.

The GOAT is sitting on Carolina's practice squad now.....we are just waiting for the right moment to pounce.

Does the pursuit of Jennings/Cobb show that Caldwell likes a Amari Cooper type over Kevin White?
Or is it just that there was no "Kevin White" type to hit FA?

There's a lot of free agency left before the season starts, and I'm sure there will be other names that hit the wire as teams make roster moves leading up to the season.

For sure they will replace Shorts with another WR. I think we can write Blackmon off for now for returning, Free Agency crop is pretty thin now. I would not be surprised if they went Cooper at 3. Maybe even a WR in the 2nd or 3rd.
I dont necessarily think Caldwell wanted a veteran per say. I know that sounds good to such a young WR corp. But Caldwell said he wants this offseason to be about improving Blake. And his comments about wanting a slot receiver give baring to that fact he just wants to make the offense better.
I think a veteran presence is nice, but play makers is better.

Caldwell was on with Dempsey and said they did not offer Jennings a contract. And were not prepared to do so until after the draft.

They really wanted Cobb, a guy who can work the slot, and is just a flat out playmaker, lost out on him, and now probably will address WR in the draft. Maybe its Cooper, maybe they address it later in the draft.

To me that reads like Caldwell likes somebody in the mid rounds and in case they don't land that player, possibly Lockett, then they would offer Jennings a contract.
