<div>Hello all. After 30 years as a diehard Bucs fan, I am switching teams. So, I have a few questions for veteran Jags fans (if you'll indulge me):
What site has the best news, inside info, and active forum - is it this one?

Welcome. Yes, this is the main site. There is another board that is populated by the former posters of this board that attempted to convince everyone that Shack Harris and then Gene Smith were doing a great job. The had 20,000+ posts, of which, 99% of them now make them look like idiots ... so they left.

Someday, 3 years from now when we have 500,000 additional fans our our bandwagon, we will pay tribute to you as the very 1st Bandwagon fan under the Caldwell / Bradley era.
... i assume you are not ready for the Jameis era in TB

What do they call those people who enjoy inflecting pain on themselves? That's the only person I can think of that would go from the Bucs to the Jags by choice

Wow. So I ask what I thought were fairly innocuous questions and get called a troll multiple times, am told to not swear twice (even though nothing in my original post would suggest that I do), am told my thread is "stupid" a couple times, and am called a bandwagon fan. You guys sure know how to make a guy feel welcome. I thought I would be able to get at least a few posts in before being unnecessarily blasted.
Not that it matters, but I am leaving the Bucs fandom for personal reasons. And to answer one poster's question, I live in Daytona.
For those who answered my questions and were welcoming, I appreciate it. Go Jags!

That's just the beginning. Now that the mean posters on here know where you live, they're going to get on their mopeds, haul down to Daytona, get their tube socks and load them up with soap and try to beat you silly.

I am going to watch the games from last season before the draft. What are the Jags strengths and weaknesses?
I know Bortles was drafted early in the first last year and had ups and downs this past season. What is the fan base's consensus on him?
Thanks for anything you guys/gals offer!

30 years a Bucs fan? Ouch! There's a whole lot of PTSD therapy that's going to be needed. I remember going down to the old sombrero for games years ago. I had a friend here in Jax whose family owned season tickets to the Bucs. They'd occasionally go to the games, and I went a few times. It was quite a spacious place to see a game back in the day. Anyone who is grinding and complaining about the Jaguars struggles over the past 7 or 8 years has no idea what true suffering is. Tampa Bay was so bad for practically a quarter century!
This site is probably the best source for getting news and information on the team, and this forum is by far and away the most active message board related to the Jags. Most of the others have died off over the years.
Jaguars strengths? The defensive line, our young receivers, some of our linebackers and DBs, and the stadium.
Jaguars weaknesses? Youth and inexperience, pieces of the offensive line, the rest of the linebackers, the return game.
There are other strengths and weaknesses, but this covers most of them in a nutshell.
Some here have highlighted the fact that the Jags are in year 3 of a pretty significant rebuild. Honestly, it's not a rebuild. They tore this thing down to the foundations and started an entirely new build. The approach they've taken annoys some fans here who have the patience and attention span of a gnat. But, over the long haul, the hope is that this building through the draft approach will net them far better results that are more sustainable. Time will tell.
As Bortles goes, so goes the team. He's taking the right approach this off season coming off a rookie season where we saw both good and bad. He showed enough to think the Jags finally got their QB, and hopefully he will show significant improvement on the field this year. The team has made it clear they're going to do everything they can to build the team around him, and with the off season moves this year to bring in a TE and RT, and with moves we expect to see in the draft, they're going to make sure he has every opportunity to thrive.
In years past, we've seen the team not so focused on assuring the centerpiece of the franchise is given every weapon necessary to succeed. This front office has shown they're determined to build a team that can be successful. It hasn't shown up in wins yet, but they'll come.

It is a refreshing feeling to believe ownership is moving in the right direction. Thanks for the info, FBT. Looking forward to the season!

Welcome to the s###show!
Just kidding, but not really. There are some very knowledgeable folks around here, and there are some folks who I wish would spend more time being informed and less time being opinionated, but that's the internet for ya. Whaddaya gonna do?
As for the team, I'll echo what FBT stated above as far as Strengths and Weaknesses and the Bortles progression. One thing that I think is going to be very interesting to watch over the next few months is the commitment to and development of a running attack. The team has themselves "project" in Denard Robinson that has shown flashes, and I'm hoping that the Staff finds a way to dig out every bit of talent that young man has. They also have a classic "bruiser" in Gerhart who I think can be phenomenal if kept to his strengths.
In my mind, there is a lot of potential to develop a really tough team, but a lot of things have to break the right way for that to happen, so we'll see.
Regardless, glad to have you aboard! Hope you brought cookies.

Just consider it an initiation, it's a tough crowd you'll need thick skin to hang around this board. Don't take it personal, it's just the boards way of saying welcome to the dark side.

Here's the way this forum works, in a nutshell. After the original poster pens his/her comments, there are usually 8 to 10 serious responses. After that, the thread deteriorates into a name-calling fiasco with attacks coming from all directions.
Welcome, and enjoy!
