I'm holding out hope that makes the difference needed. Perhaps it's not fair but when we selected him at #2 I was expecting the next Tony Boselli.

I think his injury hindered him plenty still last year in that he couldn't workout as needed. This offseason should be a good one or Luke and I expect a significant step forward in his play as a result of being further removed from the injury.

Quote:I think the unit should definitely be improved this year. Parnell is a major upgrade over anything we had at RT last season. He just has to be average and that will be a major improvement. Joeckel/Beadles/Bowanko/Linder should all benefit from having a year of cohesion working with each other to improve as a collective unit. They should also each individually improve with a year of experience, training, practice and workouts under their belt. They still may not be a great unit this year, but it should be a serious improvement.
The fact that Parnell is a 'major upgrade' and 'only has to be average' to be a major improvement is, in itself, pretty pathetic. As far as Joeckel is concerned... he has no more excuses; he saying he's gained substantial weight and strength, he's now into his third season here, he has an outstanding line coach. There's just no excuses now if he turns up similar sacks allowed and rushes allowed this season to what he had last year.

If you think about it, it's really kind'a a 'do or die' situation for Joeckel; but then again, much the same might be said about the coaching staff too. I wonder what the thinking will be on Luke if he gets injured again early on in the season? Trade him or roll the dice on him one more season? If he gets injured again early on in the season, what little confidence I had for him would be gone like the wind.

If he gets injured again you keep him around and bring in competition. His contract is already guaranteed so getting rid of him doesn't benefit the Jags any. At worst he'll become a swing tackle and a solid backup. At best he lives up to his expectations.
Quote:Honestly not worried about Luke at all. He and Linder are the least of the OLine worries.

Can Bowanko step up? Is Parnell the real deal? Will Beadles be the guy we paid for?
I'm not a Joeckel detractor but he WAS the biggest liability on the line last year along with our revolving door at right tackle. Beadles did fine and Bowanko was better than Joeckel.

Yea i agree its time to see our investment back on him..I still remember the game against Houston and how JJ Watt treated him like a boy!

If you're looking for a lineman to dominate JJ Watt, you're going to have a very long wait.. JJ Watt was a horrible example.

But watching JJ Watt beat him made me sad! How am I supposed to deal with disappointment if I don't start slinging things and making outlandish statements?!?!?!
Bowanko also needs to be close to 320 IMO. He's so tall and lanky, adding a good 20 lbs for him shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I think our smallest Offensive Lineman will be Zane Beadles by a lot.

Umm... Watt had zero sacks against Joekel.

Do you have to actually work at being a buffoon or does that just come naturally for you?

Joeckel has a lot to prove this season and everyone knows it, but let's not be completely blind on the subject.

per rotoworld

"Jaguars LT Luke Joeckel has already added 10-12 pounds since last season.

Joeckel's priority this offseason is to add strength and quality weight after he got down as low as 280 pounds in 2014. He wants to play up at 310-315 pounds, necessary numbers for an NFL left tackle. We're certainly not writing off the talented Joeckel even though he has been a liability rather than an asset through two seasons".

The last part really says it all, other mediums have said similar things. Football outsiders has him ranked towards the bottom along with PFF.

I wouldnt be shocked if the Jaguars draft a LT in the 1st round.

Admit it. You've been hanging out with Jungle Cat in the T.U. comments section again, haven't you?

You may not be shocked, but I'm confident Caldwell would be.

Yea.. you might be right.. but there are some who can stand their own. And using JJ Watts is a perfect example because we play the Texans twice a year and thats who Joeckel will be against the next few years. If hes still here.

Quote:If he and Cyprien have a good bounce back year, that 2013 class will look pretty darn good.

i think they will. ive always been one of the guys that felt like last year was his rookie year. i didnt expect magic right away.

i expect him to have a really good year this time around though.

You cant be serious? He abused Joeckel all last year!! Even in sack #2 in your link Joeckel look lost. Sorry but the truth hurts!! Even if he didnt get all his sacks against Joeckel he pressured the qb all game. I really dont wanna embarass Joeckel and you but i can show them highlights if u want?

LOL.

In the December 7th game - here's how Watt did against Joeckel:

Texans' J.J. Watt went 1-on-1 against Sam Young 17 times (four wins), but was 0-for-8 against Brandon Linder and 0-for-9 vs. Luke Joeckel.
