Quote:Because all of those guys (except Beasley) would play our LEO. Not our OLB. Read a book.
So Prisco, Rob Rang and Brugler all mock him to the Falcons saying that Quinn wants a "leo" but he wouldn't do that in Jax if picked at 3?

They all mocked Beasley as an OLB in a 3-4. He played some LB in college and has made plays in coverage. That isn't what we're looking for in a LEO.
Quote:So, tall and incredibly thin Gregory could be our LEO but Beastley couldn't? lol ok.
Gregory can easily put on another 15-20 with his frame. Beasley is better projected as in OLB in a 3-4 due to his ability to both pass rush and actually drop in coverage (as he did in college). Could Beasley play our LEO? I'm sure he could but it wouldn't be in the best interest of his skill set.

that's a projection you may or may not be successful with. He also could lose some agility if he adds another 15-20 lbs, which would then render him useless.

No they didn't.
Rob Rang:
New Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn helped the Seahawks win with similarly built defensive ends in Cliff Avril (6-3, 260) and Chris Clemons (6-3, 254) in the past and will likely push for a pass rusher with this pick.
Brugler:
The Falcons have been active adding front-seven defenders via free agency, but that won't stop Atlanta from targeting a "Leo" pass rusher at this pick. A former tight end, Beasley has the athleticism to run circles around offensive tackles.
Prisco:
When you look at their defense, where's the great rusher? New coach Dan Quinn needs help.

I don't agree with this.
if you put Beasley at Leo you loose a significant portion of his game ie his ability to work in coverage
he reminds me more of Bruce Irvin than Chris clemons
if we took him considering we invested 20 mil in skuta I think we would see our defense start to emphasise the elements of a 3-4 over 4-3 which would limit the effectiveness of the rushers currently on the roster
the more I look at it the more I see us taking Leonard Williams or trading back down for an extra second
Quote:I still think we need to add one more LB. This is a good draft to do that too.
I'm on record saying outside of Leonard Williams, my favorite player in this years draft is bernardrick McKinney.
Plug him in at poz' position and that group of linebackers on the field would be wild.

Here's a thing to consider though, Beasely doesn't HAVE to play LEO all the time. You can play him at OTTO and LEO.

I'm not sure Beasley fits at LEO. He's too light. Teams would run over him.

Chris Clemons: 6'3 254
Vic Beasley: 6'3 246
I think he'll be alright.
Think more Cliff Avril than Clemons

what i was trying to say having beasley and skuta would probably change the Leo to more of a 3-4 lb than its current generalization as a 4-3 de
the current defense is a hybrid but having beasley in my opinion would make us lean more 3-4 to utilise his skillset
I like the idea of adding Beasley and playing him all over the field. Would make it harder to game plan against our D I think. I don't care if they gave Skuta a billion dollars; who we signed in FA should mean nothing during draft time. If Skuta never sees the field because Beasley is that much better, that's a win in my book. Same with the Odrick/Williams situation, we gotta get the most talented guy at 3 imo. I think it's Vic Beasley.

LOLZ. You were wrong. I'm just the messenger. I didn't say it - those guys that get paid to analyze the draft did.

He certainly seems to have the skill-set to wreak havoc on OTs in the NFL - but it certainly wouldn't hurt him to bulk up a bit. I don't have much of an opinion on the guy though. I watch very little college football. I would take Williams (before Beasley) if he's there all day, though.
Telvin Smith will change the idea of the LB position.
Having a guy with the skill set of a defensive back at LB is going to be huge.
Assuming he makes the correct strides, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4 INT season from him

This is nothing but wrong.
Beasley is literally THE perfect LEO.
Quote:Yeah I started that thread a few days ago about rewatching the jags and dolphins game and I wanted to mention that Telvin Smith was absolutely all over the place. So fun to watch.
Rewatch the second Colts game, the last Texans game, and the Browns game. Telvin was a monster. you pretty much can't run to his side of the field.

And a pretty good 3-4 OLB. But yes, a perfect LEO. If Leonard was gone and we took Beasley, I would be totally fine with that
Also you guys don't think Gus would drop a LEO in coverage if he was good at it? Guys, remember, Bradley is the coach who invented Bruce Irvin and Cliff Avril. He will draw ways in his scheme for that player to contribute his strengths.
