Skuta-Perryman-Smith

Top 3 front 7 in the NFL.

If the topic of the thread is Telvin Smith, why disrespect him by talking about Beasley and Fowler? Smh go start a thread about them! I'm hoping my fsu boy Smith have a monster season this year! Hopefully and he should add a little more muscle weight on him this off season. I expect a big year from him!

Even on paper that's not even close.
Quote:And a pretty good 3-4 OLB. But yes, a perfect LEO. If Leonard was gone and we took Beasley, I would be totally fine with that

Also you guys don't think Gus would drop a LEO in coverage if he was good at it? Guys, remember, Bradley is the coach who invented Bruce Irvin and Cliff Avril. He will draw ways in his scheme for that player to contribute his strengths.

I also agree he'd be a decent 3-4OLB.

Good point, people need to focus on how awesome Telvin Smith played as a rookie and his potential to improve to a ProBowler this year!
Quote:I like the idea of adding Beasley and playing him all over the field. Would make it harder to game plan against our D I think. I don't care if they gave Skuta a billion dollars; who we signed in FA should mean nothing during draft time. If Skuta never sees the field because Beasley is that much better, that's a win in my book. Same with the Odrick/Williams situation, we gotta get the most talented guy at 3 imo. I think it's Vic Beasley.
All of this is accurate except for Beasley being the most talented at 3. That is Leonard all day and I hope he's there for us to grab. Most want to draft for need picking top 3 is crazy. You get the best player and figure the depth chart out later.
Quote:They all mocked Beasley as an OLB in a 3-4.  He played some LB in college and has made plays in coverage.  That isn't what we're looking for in a LEO.

Sure it is. They mock him as a 3-4 OLB because most teams would use him there, but the Jaguars run a different scheme than most teams. You're typical 3-4 OLB is often an ideal LEO. Another way to say this is that the LEO skill set is closer to that of a 3-4 OLB than a 4-3 RDE.

Lolz. No.
Do you ever listen to anything Caldwell says about the position?

You seem to have no idea what our defensive scheme is. Just stop. LAWZ
Love Telvin Smith and what he brings to the defense. He's the type of hit of a draft pick you need to be a good team. Tremendous talent for where he was selected. He fits the defense well and he should only get better. Exciting player.
Quote:I still think we need to add one more LB. This is a good draft to do that too.

Yes we do and I feel that we must acquire [BLEEP]' future replacement...

Can't agree here. Maybe top 10, but that's still pushing it.

In no set order off the top of my head:

Seattle

Denver

Baltimore

New England

Buffalo - Believe it or not

Have strong front seven's

Believe it or not? The Bills sent like three or four of their front seven to yhe probowl. They're the 1st team that came to mind. It used to be the ninerz but they're all dismantled. the ravens come to mind too. Ours will have great potential to be considered one of the best if we get that elite pass rusher, Poz returns to probowl form and Skuta has a great season.

Oh, and to stay on topic, if T.Smiff does what he did last year and adds to that body
Last years off season Jonathan Cyprien was the hot topic for player to possibly have a run at a ProBowl in his 2nd year, but after the head injury against the Eagles in week 1 and lack of real talent amongst DBs especially at Free Safety he struggled a bit more than he did as a rookie.

I do not think that the same thing will occur with Telvin Smith.  He now has Skuta at the other side (SAM) and hopefully a healthy POZ & maybe another draft pick MILB for depth, and hopefully a suprise defensive star in either the 1st or 2nd round to help him and the other Jaguars Defense out.  I think Telvin will continue to improve and play even better than his rookie year (which is hard to believe GM Dave Caldwell got this guy in the 5th round)

I expect him to go to the Pro Bowl in only his 2nd year, and be a big star for years to come!!

He should have an impact on defence this year second year in....
I'd like to see front seven of Wlb Telvin,Paul P,Otto Skuta,Leo Dante F Jr, 3t S Marks,Dt Roy M and Sde Jared Odrick
Line:

SDE: Jared Odrick / Tyson Alualu (Leonard Williams on passing downs)

3-tech DT: Sen'Derrick Marks (sometimes Leonard Williams when Marks gets tired)

1-tech NT: Roy Miller (maybe Danny Shelton if we didn't draft Leonard Williams and traded down)

LEO: Chris Clemons / Ryan Davis / a rookie (I like Beasley, Gregory, Harold, Kikaha, Davis Tull, Geneo Grissom, Kyle Emanuel for the LEO from this draft depending on where we take one)

LBs:

WILL: Telvin Smith all day every game for the next 10 years.  Beast. (/Geno Hayes)

MIKE: Paul Posluszny.  We do not need his replacement any time soon.  (/Jeremiah George)

OTTO: biggest question mark for me.  Skuta will be a good rotator but he's not a final solution.  I think if Fowler is the draft pick he fits here better than LEO because of HOW he rushes the passer and his dropping-back skills, plus we're more likely to put a 260 pound guy here and use a 240-250 pound guy at LEO.  I also LOVE Jeff Luc as a late round guy who could be a great OTTO.

SECONDARY:

RCB: Demetrius McCray - honestly the best cover guy we've got.  I don't care he was a 7th rounder.  He can ball. (/Gratz)

LCB: Davon House, but if we draft Byron Jones then definitely him.  Perfect fit for our scheme, tall, and a crazy good athlete.

SLOT: Aaron Colvin.  Just like the rest of you, I think he's good enough in man-to-man to play outside -- but he's so good in run support and on CB blitzes also that I think slot gives him even more opportunity to use his strengths.

FS: Derron Smith (I love Derron.  but really the answer here is somebody other than crappy Josh Evans.)

SS: Cypdawg - he will look much better when he doesn't have to make up for Evans's mistakes in coverage and can actually be aggressive in run support like he's good at.
