Quote:White has the measurables. But you would basically be taking him in the top 5 because of a six game stretch his final year in college. Nothing he did before, or after, that stretch makes him worthy of a top 5 pick.

You are correct on that. I could be a prisoner of the moment but this team needs dynamic players on offense. I still maintain 15.6 ppg will not win this team more than 4 games if we are lucky.
Offense first is ok if it is WR. I am well on record saying Beasley or Gregory is the right pick to me, but White or Amari is acceptable too. My qualm was if we wind up with OL/OL/RB with the first 3 picks. That would be disastrous.

Quote:You have a lot more faith in Joeckel at this point than I do, I'm sorry to say.
It's not even faith really. I'm just not giving up on the #2 overall pick after 20 games. Especially when that includes overcoming a major injury, and an initial offseason of developing at a brand new position, and then flipping back while rehabbing and getting no offseason training in. Just seems like a completely unfair set of circumstances. Also, he was much better in the 2nd half of the season.

If he shows no more improvement this year then it will be time to explore moving on perhaps, but Dave just isn't going to consider that this year.
The more I think about it, the more I think Amari Cooper should be the pick.
What about pass rush round one, Phillip Dorsett round two?

Seems like a lot of people are high on him.

White>Cooper...all day
Drafting a WR in the first round doesn't seem to follow along with Caldwells way of thinking. Especially since he already drafted 2 in the 2nd round last year.

The most important positions on any team are QB, LT, Pass Rusher and CB.

DC drafted the LT, then the QB and most likely won't draft a corner at 3. That leaves pass rusher. Not to mention we didn't sign any real pass rushers in FA.

I think it's Leonard or one of the many pass rushers. The pass rusher could come at 3 or in a trade down to maybe 6 or 7.

He also said that he's trying to surround Blake with the most help possible.

Would it be good or bad if Blake had another very good target to throw to?

I say his development is by far the most important, so I would go with drafting the best player available at #3 if you combine his potential value as well as his floor (which is very high)... To me, that is Amari Cooper.

All the others are tweeners with quite a lot of question marks.

Williams would be worth the #3 pick but if we're getting a legit #1 WR, I say the WR is better value.

Quote:I think we'll get a bit of everything this time. Pass rusher in the first round, running back in the second and then linebackers and maybe a safety and a young right tackle or guard in the later rounds.

My goodness. Don't take running back until round 4 or below. Everyone is clamoring for a name player, but there are diamonds in the rough every year. There are plenty of serviceable players already in the rotation even if no running backs are added in the draft.
Pass rusher has to be the first round. Then RB/WR combo the next 2.

Hays Carlyon, the only local guy I know of that had Bortles pegged to the Jags last year, seems pretty sure the Jaguars will go D in the first round and offense in rounds two and three. O'Halloran seemed to be going that direction as well yesterday on the radio.

O'Halloran on the other hand is pretty much always wrong, so his opinion doesn't mean anything at all.

Watkins - Mettenberger is what he had us taking last year.

He probably won't consider that this year.

However (and I'm not sure why this did not occur to me until now), giving up on a highly drafted player after a short period of time is not unprecedented, even for this team.

TC gave up on 2nd round pick Brian DeMarco at RT after the inaugural season, as he brought in Leon Searcy to supplant him at RT.

We know Gabbert didn't last long here.

I am hoping I am premature and wrong about my Joeckel take.  I'll gladly take flak from the board if I am.

Hopefully he becomes a perennial pro bowler for us at LT.

I just believe strongly that providing sound protection for Bortles is of utmost importance at this point.
Id like Cooper in the first if we stay at 3 and the running back from Nebraska Abdullah in rounds 2 or 3, not exactly sure of his stock, but i believe he has a second round grade. If not him, id like a running back in rounds 2 or 3. Id go offense heavy as well and Dave Caldwells comments back that up. Him saying this offseason is to make Blake better, along with their interest in a Murray makes me believe they will go early for a running back. I definitely would not be upset with a LEO at 3 or even in a trade down scenario. I think Fowler has promise, Beasley, Ray and Gregory (even with the failed drug test) all have good potential and good be good fits here. Im just going on a gut feeling that if we cant find a Mariotta trade partner, passing up potentially Leonard Williams or Amari Cooper may back fire on us. I think all those LEO, while promising are not sure fire prospects like Wiliiams and Cooper. And with this offseason about improving Blake, i think Amari Cooper, even with the receivers we drafted last year, makes this offense that much better.

That makes the most sense.

LEO rd 1

RB rd 2

Slot WR rd 3
Honestly I say give Bowanko another year.

If he doesn't look like the long term answer, then bring Mack to J-ville once and for all!
Oh and I think abdullah in the second would be good. He's going to be a stud.

I'm more

Pass rusher or Williams 1st round

RB 2nd

ILB/FS 3rd

I feel like we have 3 young talented WRs already and might sign and vet and might get Blackmon back, also we still have guys like Ace, Doss, Walters and Benn. Unless we are getting a steal WR late I say wait it out with what we have.

Not so fast..

Would not surprise me with White.
