What, no "Championship!" post? What a bummer. I had my hopes up and everything.

That is implied anytime we pick up someone off of waivers.
I would've rather claimed Ray Rice if we needed a cheap back that bad.

It's a free claim basically. If he doesn't pan out we lose nothing to him. I'm seeing guys all over acting like we signed the guy to a five year contract with 20 mil guaranteed

Yeah, I just read about it.

I stand corrected. No loss for this one, whether it works out or not.
Minimal investment. If it works out, great. If it doesn't, they can wash their hands of his contract.

Championship
I have a good feeling about this one.
He basically replaced Todman who was released.  If we bring in a rookie, Pierce and Storm likely battle for a spot imo.

Quote:Why? Why in the heck, given that Pierce hasn't proven to be 'all that'... and the fact that he now has a dui to his credit with at least a two game suspension... and given this franchises outrageous bad luck with players who come here who already have a 'history'... why did we pick this guy up?! Is he just practice fodder? I don't see him as substantially better than either Denard or Toby... worse in fact since he's coming here already in trouble.

Are we such bottom feeding scavengers that we needed to pick this guy up? Maybe we should change our names from the Jacksonville Jaguars to the Jacksonville Catfish!

I'm sure some Ravens fans had similar feelings when they signed a rb that hadn't proved himself and a 3rd string back from The Jags, in Justin Forsett. It seems to be a good fit.

"He has good vision and can cut back across the field when jammed up. He isn't very powerful and likely would excel working within a zone-blocking offense in which he can take one cut and go."

Pick one or combine a couple..

I'm betting he doesn't make the final roster.

He may not even make the 90 man preseason roster.   Isn't there a veteran minicamp prior to the draft?   We might take a look at him there, and then cut him to help make room for our draft picks.   Claiming a guy like this off waivers at this time of year is nothing but taking a look, really.
camp body

be interesting to see if he has any potential as an h back though

might make the roster if there is little difference between him and Toby as Toby is more expensive
Quote:Has everyone here forgotten about Pierce's 2.9ypc as the lead back in 2013 and 3.9ypc (good enough to get him benched) behind Baltimore's stellar offensive line last year? He's got a long way to go before he's even legitimate competition for Slowby. Not saying he's got no talent, but if he couldn't crack 4ypc last year behind Baltimore's OL, what's he realistically going to do behind ours?

I haven't forgot. He has been one of the worst RBs in the league the last two years. I get it, he is there for competition. I doubt he makes the roster.
I am still surprised we haven't kicked the tires on Rice if we are looking at backs this much
Well, Rice is 28, has a combined 1800 touches in his career, averaged 3.1 yards per carry his last year.....and hasn't played in a  year.  So there's that.

I'm not.

Yup. We didn't grab this guy off the wire to be our feature back. He's getting an extended audition for a roster spot and nothing more.

Domestic Violence = thug we don't want

DUI = Who cares sign him up

One is estimated @ 10,000 deaths per year the other at 1,300~ deaths per year.
Just food for thought. Does anyone think Pierre Thomas would have been better camp fodder?

Pierce... Claims he had 3 shots of Jack.

Passes out at precinct

Claims he weighs 580 pounds

Conclusion? 3 shots of Jack came in mason jars.
