Battle of 1st round talents, both of whom are hopefully Jaguars come the draft.
Seriously, FSU tried to chip/double Beasley but he was still massively effective and you can see his ability to completely change the game. That tipped ball is a huge momentum changing interception if its two inches to the right in bounds. And he did it with 2 defenders on one hand. Also love his shed of O'leary with 1 hand (O'leary got thrown like a ragdoll) and making the TFL.
Such a great player.

So you like this Beasley kid, eh?

Takes 3 threads to show real love...

Yes

i'm excited. Sue me. And then sue me for this...
I did not like how, late in the game, he kept on getting pinned to the inside on perimeter runs. The TD run in OT was one such example. That's a little worrisome to me.
watch Dante Fowler against the same team , much more affective all around
Needs to learn something other than a bull rush. Nfl tackles going to eat that up.
I don't know why he isn't using his rip move more often.

Uhhhhh you mean this game? He was unimpressive. Very clearly a better edge setter than pass rusher. They didnt double at all, chipped him maybe1/10 sequences.

Fowler has had some impressive games, no doubt, but this was not one of them.

I'll agree he could use a few more moves but watch Beasley's video again and then watch this (the Cliff Avril part). They look eerily similar. The pass rush moves are the same.

I saw Beasley put a spin move on a tackle in the oklahoma game so nasty the tackle had no clue what just happened. I hope he learns to use his speed and agility more often than trying to over power people.
Beasley was okay against Florida State. There's a big difference in evaluating both players in their games against the Noles and that is that Beasley played against a backup and Fowler played against the #1 pick. That does go a long way in evaluations. He had 2 sacks, but one of them was an offensive line breakdown (which could be on the QB as well). Cam Irving played well.
Quote:And here's why taking Beasley #3 is a problem if we are thinking of lining him up at LEO, which is the premier position
Beasley would be the OTTO.

No thats not true. Both his sacks were clean beats of Erving. Perhaps you saw another player.
You make a valid point it wasn't Jameis back there for the game but I wasn't comparing their performance. Another poster was. I could also claim that Beasley was doubled or chipped most of the game, while Fowler wasnt.

But why? I would think Skuta is far better suited for the position.

Why, because he not that great at setting the edge? He generated great pressure during the game, and again was doubled consistently.
Our deficiency isnt the running game- we were 12th in the league in YPA last season- its that our leading pass rusher last season is turning 34.

He generated pressure a couple of times, late in the 2nd quarter when the offense is in hurry up mode. Otherwise, he was largely ineffective in that game. Call me crazy, but I don't want to spend the #3 pick overall on a guy whose effectiveness can be reduced to being a non-factor when the opposing team decides to run the football.

He got Erving good on that one sack. Great play. The other sack looked like the The whole Oline was confused about something and Erving had to pick up Beasley later than expected, but it was too late. Even the announcer said they forgot to pick up Beasley.
He's good and has potential, but I like Fowler better for now.

Like HankJoness said in his Fowler charting, he had one exterior sack the entire season. Do we really want a LEO/OTTO who so far has shown he can only win on inside counter moves or interior blitzes?

I thought he had a decent game watching that. There were a lot of screens, runs, rollouts, etc that were called away from Beasley that game. Georgia's tackle had problems with Vic's speed. He could get around him on the edge and disrupted plays in the middle causing him to get double teamed a lot.
