Good luck in your next opportunity....you have been appreciated and liked in Jax.
I liked Red also, but time is moving on. I read that they would like to have him back in Seattle as an interior tackle possibly.

Seconded
The Jags know what they have / had in Red Bryant.  I think they got what they wanted from him in 2014 - leadership and a run stuffer, but he is on the decline.  The line is stronger without him.

I don't know that I'd say that the line is stronger without him. He played pretty well last year, but he's very limited in the number of snaps that he can play. With Tyson two years removed from his microfracture and Jared in, it will be tough to find a spot for Red especially given his $4.5M price tag. Red only had 100 more snaps than Tyson last season.
Quote:I don't like the move. True leader/winner. Rather have seen Alualu not re-signed.

This. No words..

I'll help. You go "huurrr...durrr.."
wouldn't be surprised to see him back after the draft when we don't get Williams.

if Williams is there at 3 I can't see us passing giving us a heavy 3 rotation of marks Williams oldrick miller alualu hood which is a pretty solid rotation of young versatile lineman

I think this is a case of why pay a guy 4.5 mil when you can cut him and resign him back if needed for 2 to 3 a few months later

regardless I though he had some great moments early last year but tailed away as it went on
I was expecting he'll stay for another year with you. If he doesn't re-sign with the Jags, I wouldn't mind to see him back in Seattle, but it's unlikely. Maybe Dan Quinn or Ken Norton Jr. will give him a chance in Atlanta or Oakland. Good luck to him, wherever he ends up.

I'm going to attempt to wrap my head around this one.  You're saying Red Bryant is worse than Alualu?  The guy who got thrown on his back by lineman most of the game, AND who couldn't out play Bryant for the starting position?  Yeah, good rebuttal.

Quote:They have done a really good job of managing the cap and structuring deals.
Depends on whether you are trying to win games or save money. Why would we talk about saving cap space when we are still top 5ish in cap space? That might be good business sense for the guy writing the checks but not for the product on the field. Just like when they talk about spending for Murray, well if you have the most money and he didn't come here then you have yourself to blame(not that I would have wanted him, but to say he wanted too much just means that you are worrying about money too much). The most effecient use of money is not necessarily the best, the point of the game is to win, not have the best wins/dollar spent ratio. People liking this move talk like winning 8 games and missing the playoffs spending 100 mil is better than winning 10 and making the playoffs spending 135 mil. We had huge space last year too, it really helped to look at our balance sheet after each loss and congratulate them on not spending any money on good players.

That's a whole lot of paragraph basically whining about the team managing the cap wisely.

The reason the cap situation is what it is has more to do with bad drafting and not having a lot of veteran talent worth retaining in order to dole out new contracts.

This team didn't spend foolishly in free agency trying to rebuild going that route, opting instead to use free agency to augment the roster with band aids like Bryant while they continued to build through the draft.

People are complaining about cutting a marginal, expensive older veteran while giving a younger role player who is cheaper like Alualu an extension. Bryant was never a long term solution for anything. Signing Odrick addresses that situation allowing the team to move on, at least for now, from Bryant. In the end, they may wind up bringing him back at a cheaper rate. There's nothing saying that won't happen, but the way some people are reacting to the Bryant cut, you'd think we just released Suh. He was a depth guy who gave us good veteran leadership and marginal production. I don't see this defense missing a beat with him gone.
