We better hope someone else really wants Mariota at three, otherwise... looks like we're stuck there now that Bradford is an Eagle.

Could be.  I just hope WIlliams is somehow still there.

Looks like other teams didn't feel help was on the way, felt they had to go get it now.
Been crazy. Saints. Eagles. Rams.

Wow.
Either than or teams desparate to shed salary.

nice agenda

Crazy day for sure. Crazier than I expected lol

If its truly a weak draft class, then that makes the top picks that much more valuable. If GM's REALLY think this draft class is weak, we should see a clamoring for the cream of the crop..
yeah I don't see this as being a weak draft class at all.

You are going to have a lot more convincing to do than the Eagles/Rams trade.

if it's a weak draft class, why would we want to trade back for more picks?

You stay where you are and pick the few good players that are available.

Trading down for more picks doesn't sound smart if the draft class is weak

What does it say about Caldwell's interest in Williams if he just signed an expensive player to fill the exact position Williams would have?

Well, it COULD also mean that Caldwell is interested in Williams, but he does not believe Williams will be there at 3.

However, your tacit assertion that Caldwell really isn't that interested in Williams seems to be supported by the Odrick signing.

In either case, if Williams is excluded from consideration, and somehow there is no trade down to be had, who then is the target?

Something to say?

Because there's better value in the second and third rounds.

If Williams is gone, pick 3 might as well be pick 10.

Not sure why you think they both can't start at the same time.  Both are capable of playing inside or out.

They certainly could Pirk, I just don't see David selecting Leonard Williams 3rd overall now that we have Jared Ordrick. I believe they'll take the highest rated edge rusher, this team needs to find a "franchise pass rusher", I expect the pick to be Dante Fowler, Vic Beasley, or Shane Ray.
I've been saying it's a terrible draft class for awhile but nobody listened. There are always great players in every draft but overall this one's a dud.
This thread has me thinking about trading down.

Most of the talk and speculation surrounds the idea that a QB hungry team would trade up to our pick to get either Winston or Mariota.

But what teams looking for defensive help might be willing to deal up to our spot?

New Orleans just acquired Seattle's first round pick in the aftermath of the Graham trade, and their GM declared they need defensive help.

They now have picks 13 & 31 in the first round, pick 12 (44th overall) in the 2nd round, and pick 11 (75th overall) in the 3rd.

Chicago has rarely traded up, but they are completely reconstructing their defense, moving to a 3-4 after generations of being a 4-3 team, and need players all over the defense.

Atlanta has a desperate need for a pass rusher, and Washington may want to ensure they get the guy they want to replace Orakpo.  Both of these teams have demonstrated a willingness to move up.

If we moved down to the 7-13 range, given who we have signed in free agency thus far, who would you target?

It would be a mistake (IMO) to pass up a better player in Williams for any of these pass rushers.  If Williams isn't there I'd prefer to trade down and pick up any of those pass rushers at a lower position.

I'd target one of the RDEs to play LEO.

The problem with picking one is, the pass rush group is so full of tweeners it's hard to tell which would actually be successful as a LEO.  All seem uncomfortably risky to me.

Instead of pass rusher, we could also look for our WR1 or FS.

None of which I think are worth pick #3.  If we (can) move down, we've got many more options.

I think the problem with that strategy is that so many teams in the top ten need pass rushers, if we traded down too far, we'd likely miss out on most of them.

To me, one ot the more enticing possibilities is getting 13 and 31 from New Orleans.

But I think under that scenario, all of the top tier LEO candidates (Fowler, Ray, Beasley, Gregory) will all be off the board by 13.

Prior to yesterday, I'd envisioned landing a guy like Trae Waynes at 13.  Now, I would think OT.
