It obviously depends on how this ends up being set up, but one thing I tried to do last season was have a paragraph explaining why I liked a particular prospect, why drafted them at the spot I did, and how they would help the team. I think if something like that was mandatory it could be beneficial. It allows us to see the thought process from every "GM" and since it's only a paragraph, it doesn't take much time. Also I think they would be good introductions for people following along who may not know all that much about some prospects. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in.

Quote:***UPDATE*** ***RULES - DRAFT INFORMATION - FIRST GMs ANNOUNCED***I dont see my name I been on this board since 06
I have been thinking about the logistical issues with organizing something like this and the essential factors necessary to successfully pull this off. I would like to carry over some of the things that have worked in years past by building off the foundation HIGH SCORE provided in message board mock drafts in year's past. But I have some ideas on different parameters which can be set to make this an enjoyable experience for all.
The most critical need is devoted GMs. As mentioned, there were some GMs who were simply absent from last year's draft and it ruined it. For this mock draft, GMs will need to be devoted enough to do some homework on a team they may not be very familiar with to get an understanding of team needs. They will need to be knowledgeable of this year's draft class and above all reliable which is why many invites were sent to known members who have established themselves on this message board over the years.
The second most critical component of a successful message board draft (when trying to accommodate the schedules of 32 people who work and live across different time zones) is having a system of making picks which makes sense. As knarnn mentioned, message board drafts tend to come unraveled around the second round. I have an approach to this which I feel would keep all GMs engaged and interested, but which would require a commitment to a schedule. Or I have an alternative approach which I feel could also work, but may invite some of the concerns knarnn alludes to. I would let the league decide which approach they prefer and would be open to any input on how to make the process better.
Option 1: I have taken the ambitious stance that I feel we could do a rapid fire draft with picks every 3 minutes to simulate that real time decision making based on pre-draft analysis. This translates to 96 minutes a round. I have major doubts about getting 32 people to commit to the same nearly 5 hour long block of time. But I am just optimistic enough to believe we could get 32 people to agree to three separate blocks of time that will last no longer than 96 minutes. Especially for those at the beginning or the end of a round where they know they can get in and get out OR join late. This would open the door to finding windows which could work across time zones even potentially on a weeknight. Or at the same set time over the span of three weekends.
Option 2: I can arrange the draft by date/time slots so that each GM knows when they need to have their pick in. It will take planning, but everyone will know when it's their pick. This is a safer approach as far as participation goes, but I would have to be meticulous in structuring this to run at the fastest possible pace. The downside to this approach is that there is almost no pressure to be prepared and no consequence for shirking this duty. To me, it is less exciting and it is more likely to cause members to disengage somewhat from the draft.
PENALTY OPTION
There was discussion about applying a penalty to the GM who the league feels had the worst mock draft. I will just say it. There were some donkey picks last year. Picks that deserved ridicule and punishment. It was proposed that the GM who is voted to have done the worst job would have their avatar or signature changed to whatever the members of the mock draft decide is appropriate for a period of one week. I will defer to the selected GMs as to whether or not they would like the penalty option to apply or what the penalty should be.
TEAM SELECTION
All GMs will be randomly assigned a team. The method I had planned on was very scientific. Names in a hat. If there are untrusting members of the message board community, I am open other less private means of randomly selecting teams to ensure integrity in the process. Once the teams have been selected, if GMs would like to trade teams for one reason or another, I do not care. Just make me aware.
DRAFT ORDER
The draft order will match the actual 2015 NFL Draft Order. There will be NO trading of draft picks. Therefore all GMs should be aware of when they are selecting.
WHERE DO I MAKE MY SELECTION?
Borrowing from last year's mock draft, I loved that we had a separate thread just for draft selections pinned to the top of the College Football forum and would like to bring that back. We can still have a "lounge" per se to praise or pan picks as they come through, but having a separate thread where ONLY draft selections go will help all GMs to track when they are getting close to being on the clock.
CAN OF WORMS
I am opening this by saying I will try to make accommodations for GMs who have scheduling conflicts (when most of the GMs can draft one day, but THEY cannot) by taking wish lists of desired players likely available when they select ahead of time and making the selection on that GMs behalf. This will be the exception, not the rule.
FIRST GMs ANNOUNCED
I would like to confirm the first group of GMs for this year's mock draft. I am still waiting to hear back from a few invites and feel we will have more than enough interest to field a 32 person draft. I would also like to select a few alternates as a precaution because.. life happens. That said.. the first GMs are:
HIGH SCORE
The Eleventh Doctor
Tuxedo
NYC4Jags
flsprtsgod
Kodiak
flgatorsandjags
TravC59
Achilles
knarnn
Jagswilldestroyyou
Frailbones
Trunt87
Caldrac
D6
JagsFanClubofMD
JaguarScience95
rufftime
aPatel06
Heroic
HiggyJ15
JaguarKick
Kotite
This leaves 9 spots and room for alternates. I have made these initial selections based on board presence and familiarity. All of these posters have been on this board for a while (under one name or another) which gives me a sense of optimism this can be a success. I have tried to not be discriminatory in this process. I have invited people who I have had differing opinions with, women, even members of this message board who are proud fans of other teams. I would hate to have it believed I would discriminate against newer posters just because they have not yet gotten to a certain number of posts. I will reach out to others who have expressed interest and try to keep some room for some of the newer people to make their mark.

** UPDATE - FINAL GMs AND ALTERNATES - ACTION ITEMS **
I have gotten the last of my emails back and would like to announce the final 9 GMs and list the alternates. I made these decisions with a few things in mind.. Above all, I wanted to try to find GMs who I feel could help me prove my theory that online mock drafts don't have to be an utter nightmare. I leaned towards some of the more experienced posters, but included some members who don't dominate the message boards as much. I would also like to reiterate the importance of ALTERNATES as the poop can hit the fan really quickly if GMs are absent and I want to have a backup plan just in case.
FINAL GMs
904Funk
Snicklefritz (Season ticket holder 1995-2011)
jessepeck1213
huttops
hailtoyourvictor (because I want to see how many Big 10 players he drafts)
J-Mizzal
Etdavis2006
Markulous
BritishJag (much respect to the fans across the pond)
ALTERNATES
1. Mdunc88
2. Teal Curtain
3. Fred Jones-Brunell
4. gatorbait025
5. TeenageMutantNinjaBortles
6. Jack City
ACTION ITEMS
1. The first order of business is determining how and when to do the draft. I have proposed the aggressive plan of doing this in three separate rapid fire rounds (each 96 minutes in length). I think it can be done if planned properly. The issue is.. getting 32 people on the same page across time zones. We have GMs on the east coast, the west coast and abroad. If we cannot come to an agreement on a date and time which work for the majority of GMs, we can try to do this the slower way (of which I have previously expressed my misgivings). The good news is we have some real flexibility on our side as we do not have the same deadlines as 32 NFL teams do. That said, my first proposal would be to do this on three consecutive Saturdays at 12:00 pm EST. This would be 9:00 am PST and dinner time for our European GM.
2. Picking teams. As mentioned, I plan on doing this by true random selection (having my daughter draw names from a hat). Unless someone speaks up, this is how it will be. I have not heard any pushback on this piece of the equation, but realize not everyone is so trusting. I am open to other, less clandestine, methods of RANDOMLY selecting teams if anyone has ideas. Otherwise, I will select teams AFTER all of the other details have been ironed out. Once teams have been randomly selected, if you would like to trade teams with another GM (maybe you grew up a Jets fan for example..), I am fine with that. Just let me know who has what team and be civil with each other.
3. Penalty Option - Do you want everyone to have skin in the game or is this just for kicks? It was proposed in the thread last year which prompted this that we would vote to see who had the worst draft and assign some penalty to that GM (i.e. - sig/avatar bet - for one week that GM would be at the mercy of whatever the rest of the league decided to change it to). This was inspired by some truly unrealistic and dumb selections right around the time the wheels came off on last years mock draft. If you guys want to do this, let me know. If you don't that is fine too.. so long as you show up prepared and on time.
4. Alternates - If a GM drops out or no shows, we will try to replace them based on the Alternate list provided above.
Thoughts? Ideas? Questions?

1. I am more inclined to favor a clock than rapid fire rounds. I don't want to miss my pick or screw up the draft because something came up (I work at a hospital where I take call).
2. Anybody putting as much time into this as you surely will deserves the benefit of the doubt regarding trust.
3. I'd love for the 32 to GMs to cast a ballot at the end of the draft to determine the worst GM. Loser wears in in his signature until the real draft or kickoff.
4. Alternates came in handy last year.

1. The only issue for me regarding the format if we do this on a weekend is I can't participate live during the day on Saturdays. Sunday at any time would work very well for me. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday Nights ET would work well also. If the draft is when I can't participate, like I mentioned previously, I'll gladly provide a preference list.
2. Any way you and the others want to do the team selection would be great.
3. I'll go along with the consensus.
4. Alternatives are almost always needed in these type of ventures.
In essence, the only concern I have is when the draft will be held. Otherwise, everything should work out very well.

I don't see the rapid fire rounds working at all. Too many people with different schedules. Honestly, it's hard to do much less than a 4 hour window with the clock pausing at night.
