It is smokescreen season. That means we have to sort out truth from lies and find the hidden meanings of messages about draft trades, picks, and prospects. Which reports are so believable you can't imagine them being smokescreen? Which ones look like obvious smokescreen to you?
Is this an official thread?
Bigfoot.. Not so sure..
UFO's?.. Definitely..

The Eagles wanting to trade up to the top 5 to draft Mariota. It makes sense in a world where there aren't an abundance of athletes that can run that offense, but I feel like the Eagles aren't the sort of team to gamble that hard on trying to find a quick fix.

I used to believe the same. Then I realized Chip Kelly received full power over all personnel moves just this offseason in time to draft his beloved QB.
Most Believable: Winston to TB
Least Believable: Any WR to Jax at #3
I think the Mariota Eagles trade up is a smoke screen concocted by teams in tge top 10 to maybe coax a trade up from someone that has a more realistic shot. With Sanchez actually looking good in Kelly's system, i think the Eagles may go after Hundley . Hundley to Eagles at twenty seems like a very realistic spot

Hundley doesn't have the accuracy to execute Kelly's scheme. No QB does in this draft except... Mariota.

Mark Sanchez only started last year out of necessity, but it was obvious finding a new home helped him.
I can see the Titans trading with the Jets no matter what they say about the Eagles.

So you think the trade-up rumors are true?

Too much smoke for it not to have been at least considered. I think if the Eagles are able to get a good deal to move up without giving up their entire future then they'll do it.
Basically, think how good the Eagles looked with a QB that doesn't even match what they are trying to do. You get that QB that can do what you want and watch out. If Chip thinks Mariota can do what he wants at the NFL level, I do feel that they would go to extreme lengths to get him.

If the Eagles want to do that, they better not have any holes on their roster.
I will wait until we hear it from Chp Kelly himself. Right now it is all reports from anonymous sources, which makes it hard to know exactly what the coach is thinking.

So you'll wait to hear about a trade for a high ranked QB in draft season from the personnel guy who has the highest interest in securing him?
I think you might be waiting a while.

What exactly are you expecting him to say?

"After much consideration, I have decided to trade my entire draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars so I can move up to the third overall pick and select Marcus Mariota. I would appreciate other teams' cooperation in not trading ahead of me with the intent of drafting Mariota first or second."
-Chip Kelly, March 3, 2015
Quote:What exactly are you expecting him to say?
I think he will address the rumors. Whether he denies the claims about trading "a king's ransom" outright or says reporters misunderstood something, he will not just sit back and say nothing. He might insist Nick Foles is the starter and a good fit for the offense. He might deny reports Foles is being shopped. He might talk about players who are projected to be late first round picks.

So if you're waiting for him to say it, then who cares about the smoke screen? Isn't the point of this entire thread to speculate if its true or not? If you don't care about what anyone else says, why start a thread about it?
This one is more believable than the Eagles rumor: The Browns want to trade up for Marcus Mariota. At #12, they don't have to give up as much. And unlike the Eagles, they actually do need a quarterback in the draft. However, I don't believe for one ssecond they will consider trading both first round picks to jump over the Jets. A first and a second is more likely.

How is that more believable and they just signed McCown? Also how often has a team drafted a QB in the first round in consecutive years?
