Quote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't New England known for letting big name players walk, over the years, and replacing them in the draft?

I know them more for hoarding onto old players. They'll often stick with guys well into their mid-thirties allowing them to retire with the team, and that's somewhat rare throughout the league.

Quote:That being said, Poz has become too slow to keep up with other teams TE's. The results of this are well documented as we've been ripped over and over across the middle by teams with pass catching TE's; and yes, this is when Poz was healthy too.

From everything I've seen Poz has plenty of speed to player the MLB position. What games/TEs are your referring to?

Really... Here's the latest......

The phrase the "Patriot Way" is always thrown around when it comes to restructuring contracts but no one ever thinks about the way this organization treats the players that have done so much for their franchise and to the community.

The latest person to get burned by the Patriots after doing so much for their franchise is one of the most loyal and beloved players that this organization has had, Vince Wilfork.

According to Igor Mello of CBSSports.com, the Patriots have declined Wilfork's team option and he will become a free agent. The Patriots decision to not pick up his two-year option will save their team 8.9 million dollars in cap space.

I think if we get someone like McCourty at FS and get  faster at SAM/OTTO. lots of folks will be surprised at how much 'faster' Poz becomes.

Deion Branch and Wes Welker say hello.

Eventually all teams simply have to move on, but look how long they kept Wilfork. The man is 33 years old having been a starter for the Patriots the past 11 years. You rarely hear of a player staying that long with any team, but this is commonplace for the Patriots.

The Patriots respected Branch enough that after he the Seahawks were through with him they re-signed him. Branch was 33 years old when the Patriots let him go in 2012 having played 12 years in the league, including 7 for the Patriots.

Welker was more of a case of the Patriots not wanting to match what the Broncos were willing to pay him. When the Patriots allowed Wes to move on to Denver, he was 32 years old having played 9 years in the league including the prior 6 seasons as a starter with the team.

As far as cap room, I think we shouldn't be afraid of giving Suh 19-20 million a year. I know some have said 20 million is a large chunk of the salary cap, but we need to remember that the salary cap is projected to keep growing by 10+ million a year and so I think we should not be afraid to go big or overspend on different contracts. This is the year to make not just a splash, but multiple splashes. There may never be another FA class that comes anywhere near as deep as this class, plus with the growing cap it may become easier for teams to re-sign their own players.

You SAID, and I quote...

In Vince Wilfork's case, when I said they're letting him "move on," he's most likely moving on into retirement now that he's in his mid-thirties. At the very least by having kept him for 11 seasons since drafting him, they're certainly allowing him to retire with the team should he opt to do so.

I'm not trying to get into a pissin' contest with you, it's just that your statements were contradictory

It was probably the wrong choice of words for me to use the phrase "move on." Similarly, it was the wrong choice to use Wilfork as an example to try and disprove what I was saying as he's actually a classic example to help prove my point.

and mine as well....

They put him on the trading block at 25 years old.
Suh

Gipson (I prefer, not sure if he's been picked up by Cleveland) or McCourty

Hardy

Whichever RT the front office is highest on. I read some things about Buluga's injury history and other RT's being equal in production and price ticket being a little less expensive.

Then stockpile the Off through the draft.
Again, we extended Roy Miller and just re-signed Tyson Alualu. We have a proven DT in Marks. Why do you think breaking the bank for Ndamukong Suh is a good idea? Our D-line as a whole is better than the league average. However, our safeties and linebackers as a whole are probably below or at average at best. Remember getting barbecued all season by tight ends? McCourty makes sense and so does Julius Thomas. Bulaga makes most sense seeing as our O-line is probably the weakest in the league. Overspending for the biggest name on the market never works. Look what Philly did with Nnamdi is just one example.

I personally think spending on Suh makes sense for a few reasons

1. He'll put butts in the seats. That equates to more national tv time and projecting us as a whole.

2. He's the best DT in the game. He'll make the LB corp better. He'll make our front better as well. With both coming off serious injuries why risk it.

3. He gives us the option to go elsewhere in the draft. Trade down acquire more picks and load up.

Bulaga is ok, Thomas is ok, the consistent injuries worry me as a fan. Paying them when we would a more or a risk then paying Suh. McCourty is also a great player, but he was surrounded by a talented front 7. His secondary teammates are proven as well. To me Gipson (from Cleveland) provides range, ball hawking skills, and will be a little nicer on the pockets.

If we picked up Suh, Hardy, Gipson, and any RT. Sky's the limit in the draft and will save Caldwell and Gus for another 2 years in my opinion.
Quote:So now that the NFL salary cap will be $143.28 million in 2015. So the Jaguars $68.4 million in cap room and $84 million is both Poz and Lewis at cut. This puts us over any team in the league in terms of cash to spend. This means we will make a big splash in the free agency.

I think Devin McCourty should be our number 1 target, Julius Thomas or Jordan Cameron being our number 2 target, and maybe adding Suh in the mix. Im not sure what the plans are but looks like we can sign some tier 1 players and can't wait to see how this all plays out.

I think it means we have a lot of money and no players.

Marks has an ACL. Not sure why people thinks it's a given he's back 100%.

Dude is a beast. As is Poz. They'll still be impactful players. To the "butts in the seats" crowd that only goes so far. When the team is 1-8 again it will continue rearing its ugly head.
