I'm not sure if anyone caught the Alex Marvez interview with JP Shadrick on the homepage but he floated this as a possibility. If Tennessee, for the sake of this argument, will move down for a mid round draft pick would you do it? Keep in mind in this scenario Tennessee is shopping this pick around for teams under us as well.
No.

Give up a mid rounder for Leonard Williams?

I would
Nope. Not a chance. I want Williams, but if he's gone, take Fowler..
Nope. Too many holes to fill to spend a mid-rounder moving up one spot.

Even if he turns into the next JJ Watt? Because that's the type of upside he has.
Because Tennessee is in the same division as Jacksonville,   there's a good chance their asking price to move down one spot would be noticeably higher than it would have been if a team from another division had pick # 3.    If that's the case,  a trade between the two teams very likely wouldn't happen.

Correct no way this will happen
Dave surprised me last year at 3. I'm sure he will this year as well. Unless he pulls the trigger on Gordon
No
I would consider it.   But I'd have to be really sure they weren't just trying to bluff me out of a pick.   And I don't think I'd give up more than a 5th round pick.   And I'd have to be really sure Williams is a lot more valuable than Fowler or the next guy.

Hell no

You trade back, not up. Dave has already said he is more likely to move back this year. I'm glad he said this so early, so this gives teams a couple months to come up with their best offers
The scenario doesn't make much sense.

- If Tennessee wants Leonard Williams they won't make the trade.

- If another team wants to move up and take Williams the Titans would take that deal instead of trading with a division rival.

- If Tennessee doesn't want Williams then he will fall right in the Jags lap.

If the Jags make that trade they are got conned by the Titans and Caldwell should be fired on the spot.

the chance of Williams turning out to be as good as Watt are as about as good as Winston turning out to be as good as Manning or Gordon to be as good as Walter Payton. For him to be one of if not the best ever at his position is highly unlikely. It's nice to have high hopes though.

As we will probably end up with Williams anyway if we don't trade back, the Titans with Dick Lebeau will probably go pass rusher like Fowler.

Watt wasn't even a top 3 pick. He was far from being considered a sure thing.

Better analogy, what if the pick we trade to the titans becomes the next Watt? Then we really look stupid.

Dude.... What?

Because Watt wasn't picked in the top 3, you can't compare him to Leonard?
For the purposes of this discussion, take JJ watt out your vocabulary. Athletically he is head shoulders and thigh pads ahead of Leonard Williams, not even close.

He was picked at ten because he only played the position for one year because he started as a TE in college. His agility tests were elite for a safety let alone a lineman. Its rare that in a game that has been played this long u have a player that is truly singular, and JJ watt is. That's why I think a teams is going to make a huge mistake thinking that Williams is on the same level as watt.

So who would you rather take?

One of the 5 pass rushers who have more flaws than Williams?

Williams is a beast and makes everyone on the defense better. Maybe not Watt but he can have the same effect as Watt.

No.

First off...don't trade with a divisional rival.

Secondly, we're talking about moving up one pick for the purposes of taking a non QB.

Furthermore, with as many needs as the Jaguars have, trading a  mid round draft pick (a guy who, at minimum, could provide needed depth), seems foolhardy.

Now if we had a trade down that netted us a bunch of picks, a subsequent trade up to ensure we get the guy we want might be okay.

But with our base amount of picks, trading up one spot for a non QB who might even be there if we stand pat doesn't seem to make sense.
