Quote:McCourty is top priority if we get a chance to make him an offer. But why not make a run at Cobb too? It's not as if the Jags have had a viable playmaking receiver since Jimmy Smith (though JB was sure looking the part in short work). Julius Thomas would help as well, but Cobb is young and more proven than any WR on the roster. And if we could use him in some of the ways Green Bay used him, he would be a great pickup.

I like Cobb, but im not sure if I would be willing to invest 12 mill per. It'll probably be more than that if he comes here since we'll most likely have to overpay.
He won't cost that much.
Cobb at $12 million per?  Not that appealing.

I'd rather pay McCourty 11 mil per year than Cobb 12, but I'd not be upset with Randall Cobb in teal - even if he's handsomely overpaid.

$12M is pretty steep. I'd take a downgrade at someone like Maclin or Smith for a fraction of a price. But we can't force players to sign here, so if we strike out on Suh/McCourty and the other big names, then you know what? Sign me up for Cobb.

He will. And he shares an agent with Suh.

We need to pull a Pat Riley-like heist here. Who else shares an agent with Suh and Cobb? Let's get a package deal!

I could see going after Maclin at a slight discount - though I think Cobb is the better player and is less likely to pull a "Jerry Porter" in free agency.  Still - Maclin at around 8 mil per year might be attractive.

I think Torrey Smith might be a fraction of the cost - but will also post a fraction of the stats where ever he ends up.  He disappeared in too many games last season.

I keep thinking that Torrey Smith will be our target for that "veteran WR". I remember last year when we played the Ravens, Gus Bradley gushed about him. I think Caldwell likes the WRs he drafted last year but Smith would give you that veteran presence, would be a perfect deep threat compliment to Robinson on the opposite side, and will allow Lee to work primarily from the slot, which he's better suited for anyway...all for a fraction of what Cobb is going to command.

I wouldn't be a fan of us going after Torrey Smith. He strikes me as similar to Lee Evans in Buffalo in that he'd have a stretch of 3-4 games where he looks great and the rest of the year was fairly pedestrian.
Agree. I think Torrey Smith is a tease. He has shown to be a 50-60 catch, 800 yard type guy. You don't pay them what he'll command on the market.

I can understand this being a concern but I don't think we need him to be our #1 go to. His value will be keeping the defense honest since he can take the top off of any defense. He averaged over 15 ypc last year. That's what this team needs.
Torrey Smith's agent is Drew Rosenhaus. Good luck trying to get a reasonable price tag.

I wouldn't be against him here in a vacuum because he's a nice complimentary piece that would mesh well with our current corps; I just think he'll get paid handsomely by some team and I'd prefer it not be us. I wouldn't be surprised to see a WR needy like Cleveland offer him something like $32 million over four years.
I could also see Oakland, Minnesota or St Louis going after Smith. He, Cobb and Maclin will be very, very rich men soon.

San Fran too.

St. Louis makes sense with Tavon Austin not really becoming the threat they thought he would be when they drafted him. A trio of Quick, Smith, and Austin gives you three completely different skill sets.
Torrey Smith = CS3

Chew on that.

10.5 ypc. Not even close.
