For those complaining about why they are stacked, Shad says this from a BCC article:
"It's so beautifully done that it doesn't scream. Those two levels that you saw, that's the enclosed practice facility, the green space. It's open on both ends so you can have air go through it and it's covered," Khan said about the proposed facility. "It doesn't look like what you'd look at a covered practice facility which is like a steel covered building or garage. It respects the views of the river, it respects the green, it's open on the side with a lot of glass and it's not a typical facility."
So awesome how he is thinking about keeping it natural and aesthetically pleasing compared to the other indoor practice structures/bubbles that look like ugly warehouses.

Personally, I'm concerned the focus of the franchise is in the wrong place. Sure, I like hotels, restaurants, walkways, and plush practice fields BUT ...... think about this one....
Instead of getting $10 off when we spend $25 at Salt Life
....we get $15 off when we spend $25
Talk about a sweet deal !!! Couple that with the Sunday Specials of $2 PBR 24 oz cans and $3 Bloody Mary's and you're taking about a Real Teal Deal !!!

Some people just don't get it. The franchise is doing a lot at one time. This is the business side not to be confused with football side.

Cart before the horse?
You're talking about two separate wagons.

Quote:That's really an impressive vision for the shipyard area. I can certainly see the economic impact such development would have in the downtown area. A three tiered practice field... that's so 'over the top' that it's hard to imagine such a thing in Jacksonville.
I have a question though; will it help our team get better and win more football games, or, will it just be another example of putting the proverbial 'cart before the horse' and fuel further ridicule about the Jaguars franchise? 'We're the team with everything... swimming pools, movie stars... everything, except a winning football team! Now maybe I'm just too 'old school' to get this, but I thought the whole point of having an NFL football team here was about the football, not all this other 'stuff'.
I do know that Khan has been quoted as saying three double digit losing seasons in a row is unacceptable. Does this mean that Khans 'bottom line' for next season is at least 7-9 or it's hit the road time for Gus? Or is this just Khan saying what he thinks the fans want to hear with no intention of actually acting on it? If Khan's bottom line really is 7-9, then maybe bringing Marrone here really was a 'proactive' move.
This kind of "Good old boys" short sighted mentality is what has kept Jacksonville from being as great as it can be. It took an outsider in Khan to bring some creativity and imagination to the table.

Why isn't Khan at home watching film and drawing up plays?
He should also be designing off season work out programs and all the other things that he employs people to do

Exactly. Why would he delegate a task to people more knowledgeable about the subject area than he? Every employee knows that closer supervision is great for performance.

Quote:Can I ask a more relevant question? I mean this with all honesty and accept my incompetence on the matter.
But what the hell do we need 3 practice fields for? And wouldn't it make sense for them to build an indoor field since we always have problems practicing in August?
Also the design is a little odd, they just stacked a field on top of a field with no boundaries. With the current design someone could fall off and die HahahahahHa.......
Riverfront property is very valuable. It makes sense to build "up", rather than "out", utilizing a smaller footprint. It's also unique. Who else in the NFL has a multi- story football playing field facility? In a city where the "same-old same-old" has been a way of life, it's refreshing to see a little "out of the box" thinking.

When Dave Caldwell starts announcing that he's opening a Chil-Fil-A on Baymeadows and Gus Bradley invests in a Radio pShack before they close...then I'll panic. I mean, seriously, why do you think they hired these two if he was just going to do football "things" himself

My opinion has been deemed 'idiotic' by NYC4jags as a result. Well, I guess it takes one to know one, right? For some reason, I mistakenly thought the Jaguars franchise was first and foremost about football.
But all that aside, I do think that the development of the downtown area would be a good thing. Since Khan seems to be the only billionaire we have handy who talks like he's willing to drop big money into making this happen, lets see where the chips fall.
I hope we have a good football team again... someday.

Yes, your opinion is idiotic. Khan has hired people to worry about the football team... Sounds to me, you want Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder to own this team.
I have no idea how Khan has anytime to draw up plays when he currently is running a billion dollar corporation, running a NFL team, running a soccer team, and making presentations on shipyards... We're doomed!!!

And everyone that thinks the shipyards make sense and realize that football and development of the area around the stadium are two different things dont want a winning team now? You don't think Khan wants a winning football team?
Look at the revenue when the Jags were winning....you don't think they want that?

Let me guess. The OP still calls the stadium "The Gator Bowl" and misses the old metal bleachers. Why do they need that big TV at the stadium anyway. We're there to watch football not TV. Amiright????

Well now...see, that there is your problem. NFL franchises are first and foremost about business. That's what rich guys are all about, business. Once you realize that you'll understand why the rich guy in charge is more personally interested in developing the community than in personally running the franchise.

Can you believe Met Life is more worried about putting their name on a blimp and a football stadium instead of insurance?

Shad wanting to develop an area right outside the stadium is a good, wait, GREAT thing. If he wasn't wanting to do this it will impact the team no differently than if he did.
So, basically....
We could be 3 years into a rebuild with arrow pointing up without any intentions of an amazingly beautiful riverfront project
or
We could be 3 years into a rebuild with arrow pointing up with intentions of an amazingly beautifiul riverfront project

Downtown is an eye sore. I'd love to see this concept come to life. It makes it more attractive for folks that live out towards the beach. It would help attract more venues as well I am sure of that. More jobs and revenue. It doesn't hurt man. Jacksonville is the biggest city in this Country by land and we need to take advantage of it. Making downtown a landmark that's actually attractive is a good start.
