Khan already said the team will make a bigger splash in the FA then we have in former years. That being said, Suh is most likely to be tagged or resigned by the Lions. If he hits the market, yeah we can give him 16-18 million a year but what about the future? You don't want a 18 million dollar cap hit when we have to resign Bortles, our 3 new receivers, telvin smith....etc. I also think that fowler might go to the titans just because Lebau is a 3-4 guy and they need to load up on OLB pass rushers rather than take Leonard Williams. Either way we will be drafting Leonard Williams or Dante Fowler, I just hope it is Fowler.
Quote:It would be interesting of they drafted Fowler and then lined him up at OTTO on 3rd downs. We could have Clemons, Davis, Marks, Branch, and Fowler all coming after the QB.
Not sure how that would work. Typically the "Lightning" package is used in a nickel formation. Which means 2 LBs. Telvin is a lock to be on the field in that situation. The Otto is also not normally used in nickel. However, you could put Fowlers hand in the dirt and sub out Branch or whoever depending on who is signed and/or cut.

I agree that I think at this point it's Fowler or Williams but give me Williams every single time and twice on Sunday.
He can play so many positions and is very versatile. I wouldn't be disappointed with Fowler or Gregory but if Williams, Fowler and Gregory are sitting there, I really hope we don't pass on big Leonard.

We have the #94 jersey open and waiting for him.
Quote:JJ Watt got a 6 year $100m contract, with a $10m signing bonus (gets amortized), a $10m roster bonus (full cap hit when paid), and base salaries. About $52m was guaranteed, and the deal averaged $16.7m per year.
Gerald McCoy got a 6 year $95m contract, with a $2.5m signing bonus, and base salaries. About $51.5m was guaranteed, and the deal averaged $15.9m per year.
My guess is that a deal for Suh would be somewhere in the vicinity of these deals, likely with a large upfront amount such as Watt's deal and average in the $17-18m range to get him to depart Detroit.
If Detroit wants to retain him, they are going to have to give him a lot of guaranteed money up front in order to fit him underneath the cap and not have any issues with that.
Quote:I strongly disagree. Easley was very weak again the run. He also was much better inside then out. Fowler actually can play both and can drop in coverage. Fowler also played both Sam olb and the Buck positions. The buck position is very similar to the Jags Leo position. I think u might have Ronald Powell and Fowler confused.
Well, I guess we'll have completely opposite opinions then.
Easley was very good against the run and is a protype 3 tech that can also play some 5 and left end.
Fowler is a prototype Leo, but watch him against big, strong players. He gets mauled against Alabama, even by their tight ends. I think its crazy to believe he can line up inside on anything other than 3rd and long.
I'd take Lorenzo Mauldin over Fowler as he's a lot more stout at the point of attack.
Oooor draft Williams or Gregory (DT/DE)
And get an Otto (which is what Fowler is) in the 2nd round?
And then we haven't overpaid for anything.
I get everyone is freaking out about Marks maybe not being ready, but we don't need to overpay Suh, who will command a contract larger than McCoys.

Plz stop with the overpay stuff, you have to overpay to get good players, we have the most cap room in the NFL, over paying isnt gonna hurt us in anyway.
Being cheap hasnt gotten us anywhere

Ain't that the damn truth..
We must spend on impact players this year, Dave knows it. Khan doesn't put a timeline on but in his head he has one and know after going 7-25, we must be 8-8 or better. Sign some impact FA, as much as I would hate the Jags to put 18 mill on Suh, it might be worth it to make a nasty defense, which will complement our offense.
Worry about resigning everyone when we start making playoffs... 70 million in cap space and we are worried about resigning our 2nd year guys. Lol c'mon bro.
We've tried the bargain basement pawn shop Goodwill players.. How'd that work out?
If Jags cant pull one major free agent... I'll be highly Dissapointed... If they can't win 7 or 8 games next year I think we will see some major turnover.
No to both.
Name the last great defenvise lineman to come out of Florida in recent years. Floyd in Minnesotta? He hasn't done anything note worthy. We took Derrick Harvey, and he set us back two years. No thanks.
As for Suh, again, no thanks. Huge price tag, huge liability. He's a headcase that cost his team too many penalities. You can play nasty and physical and not be a dirt bag about it. John Randle and Kevin Greene did it for years.

Its never about where you come from, your joking right? Its about game tape, the player itself. Drafting has nothing to do with location or where you came from. If it was like that most of these NFL players wouldn't be around.

Carlos Dunlap. What does it even matter? I never got this argument. What about drafting a DE/OLB out of Missouri? Like Aldon Smith... Have his record broken by Michael Sam... And that still won't stop Shane Ray from being drafted in the top 10. The difference is Gary Pinkel coached all three Missouri defenders, Urban coached Harvey, Muschamp coach Fowler. What does this all mean? Nothing....

Lol yea I thought that was pretty funny he's talking about resigning players who havent earned anything on a 3 win team
Also NFL.com has a FA article has Jags making sense for a couple of players I would love

I'm sorry I think paying Suh to be the top paid defensive player, ever probably, isn't worth getting our own young DL beast in Williams and not paying a dude who is likely going to miss a game or two due to suspensions.
Suh will likely be getting paid in Detroit anyway...
