With an established offence his straits would be shown like before ..a good o line and run game is needed to help get the young passing attack going
Quote:somebody else would sign him.  he isn't as useless as fans here think

I wouldn't mind seeing him miss chip blocks and drop passes for another team. Most likely on ESPN's "Not Top Ten" every Friday morning...
Quote:It's obvious to anyone with a functioning brain Lewis won't be on the roster next year at his current salary, I don't care how much cap space the Jaguars have, his play doesn't warrant the contract. If Marcedes was a FA of another team would you be ok with the Jaguars paying him $8M/year? I didn't think so, there's no reason to pay $8M to an ineffective TE, with your logic we might as well bring back MJD at a base of $6M/year, after all the Jaguars can afford it.
Gotta love it when people apply logic.
There is the problem, though of the Jaguars meeting the minimum spending level.   John Clayton has an article that says the Raiders and the Jaguars must spend now in order to meet the minimum spending requirements.

http://beta.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...on-mailbag

"The question heading into the 2015 free-agency period is how the minimum spend provision, in its third year, will affect spending. For the Raiders and Jaguars, the impact could be huge.

The system pretty much mandates the Jaguars and Raiders to be the biggest players in free agency."

Cutting Lewis would just put us deeper in the hole on minimum spending, at a time when we not only need to spend the money, but we also need players.

We don't have to spend anything until Feb 2017 The Real Marty

Yes, and has been time for a couple of years now. STILL riding that fat contract high from his Pro Bowl year in 2009. He doesn't help us put up points. More of a hindrance in that category. We need a pass catcher and someone that demands respect of the defense. Not a 7th blocker.

That's just ESPN free agency hype-machine stuff.  The Jags don't have to hit that 89% this season. It's an average of 89% over 4 years. (2013-2016)

They have next year and the  early part  of the offseason in 2017 to hit that mark.   Clayton's thing is misleading.
If we cut Lewis..... I'm guessing he goes to the Pats

or Oakland

He adds nothing.
It would've been time to move on from Marcedes two years back.  He played good one year and that was his contract year.  Its better to cut this guy and show the team such act is unacceptable and pay to the other guys who are playing hard and producing more(Dematriyus McCray, Telvin Smith etc down the road).  I lost interest on Marcedes. The next time he will play good in the Jags uniform would be two years from now when his contract is due.

I've said that I think it's time to trade in the Mercedes... however, he does have some value as a blocker... some. Since it 'appears that we're getting J. Thomas and it's known that he is not a blocking TE, then Mercedes could come in for run situations. I would most certainly entertain this thought provided that he is willing to re-negotiate his contract; there's no logic in paying a TE who is mostly used as a blocker the kind of money he's currently pulling down.

No reason to cut at this point.  Nothing gained by that.  Even Gabbert got us a draft pick.  Too bad Harbaugh's in college now.

I hear Denver is in the market for a TE

I concur. Unless every TE we bring outperforms him after the draft he's going to be on our roster. No benefit cutting him otherwise.
Maybe we should trade Lewis to the Cowboys for a running back!! Haha
Lewis is as good as gone. His blocking isn't so good that bringing in a 6th swing lineman like the Jaguars used to do with Whimper wouldn't be more advantageous, and he's making an obscene amount of money compared to his production level. One way or another he shouldn't be on the team come week 1 of the regular season. Especially if the Jaguars are still planning to add more free agents.

Casserly just said in NFL network that we traded Lewis to the Saints???

I know it was a fake account that said that earlier.... Weird.
So uhhh i just heard Casserly say the Saints got Marcedes....
