Yes, you read right. I believe that we can become an unstoppable offensive force, and all it will take is a 17.5 million cap hit to sign 4 players as well as only using 2 of our 7 draft picks on offensive players. Basically, with 44.5 million in cap space remaining and 5 picks we could devote to defense, we could still have the leagues best offense. Actually, with the one draft pick I'm being overly greedy, so it could be 6 draft picks. To make sure this all worked out, I looked into what players we were connected with, their projected contract predictions, and then used the manage the cap tool on fanspeak to give those contracts to lower tier guys who would accept it no matter what in order to see how the money played out, thus giving me the figures above.

The signings:

C-Stefen Wisniewski

TE-Julius Thomas

WR-Jeremy Maclin

RT-Bryan Bulaga

Draft Picks:

R2: TE-Maxx Williams

R3: RB-Duke Johnson

The free agent signings are all guys that we have been connected to and all of them have fairly decent chances of hitting the market. Now it just becomes getting them to sign.

Wisniewski is a top-10 center and would be a massive upgrade over Bowanko. Bowanko did decent last year, but he was meant to be a backup. In the end, the guy he was backing up was so terrible that he got cut making Bowanko the starter. Again, he did decent, but when you were meant to backup a guy that ended up being so terrible he got cut, I think you welcome the signing of an established top-10 center.

I could see us getting any of the top 3 FA TE, but it seems like most pundits see us going for the top target hardest in Thomas.

I've seen a lot of experts connect us to Maclin, because we could use a veteran, burner such as himself to help stretch the field for Bortles and the rookies. which Maclin could do.

With RT, we could sign anyone of Free, Bulaga, or even Barksdale and it would be a massive upgrade. Again, went for the gusto, but we should get at least 1 of the 3.

With the draft picks, we get a massive upgrade at RB with what some experts describe as a LeSean McCoy clone. We would get a franchise running back with tremendous speed that could break any play for a TD and the effective capability to be a receiver out of the backfield. With Maxx Williams, yes I am being greedy here. They say a TE is a quarterback's best friend, but who says you can only have one best friend? Both Julius Thomas and Maxx Williams are match up nightmares. Julius Thomas himself can make a defense sweat trying to figure out how to cover him and Maxx Williams is projected to be the same way. I know most teams only have 1 true receiving TE, but I was thinking of the havoc these two could have on opposing defenses and couldn't stop drooling at the prospect. If nothing else, Maxx Williams is there if Thomas gets hurt.

Basically, we massively upgrade the line adding a top-10 center as well as a much better RT regardless of which of the 3 we get, but a top 10 RT should it be Bulaga. In addition to this much better protection for Bortles, he gains a reliable, veteran, burner to stretch the field in Maclin as well as match up night mares in Thomas and Williams. Finally, it all gets wrapped up with a franchise caliber running back with all the speed to break any run for a TD as well as a solid receiving option out of the backfield. Between Lee/Hurns/Blackmon/Robinson/Maclin/Thomas/Williams/Johnson being able to rotate as necessary and just run rough shod over the opposing defense, Bortles would be given every single mean to succeed. He would almost have to be trying to suck to actually suck. Hell, even Henne could probably win the division and a couple of playoff games with these incoming players added to the offense. The best thing is, we would still have 5 draft picks as well as almost 45 million to work on the defense. Also, the best part is that this is actually all within the realm of possibility. This isn't some far-fetched dream. This could all really happen, because as I stated we are connected with all these players and are supposedly willing to spend. Right now, I'm picturing Bortles standing behind an offensive line giving him plenty of time to pass as he systematically destroys a defense. 25 yard pass to Jeremy Maclin. 10 yard pass to Marqise Lee. 10 yard pass to Allen Robinson. 15 yard pass to Allen Hurns. 10 yard pass to Justin Blackmon. 10 yard TD pass to Julius Thomas. Jaguars go 80 yards in 6 plays and 2:30, as the defense has absolutely no clue what happened to them, time and time again.

To sum it up. Protect your QB. Give him a RB that can balance out the playbook and keep the defense honest. And hope that Bortles makes the right decisions and takes care of the football.

In the end, most of this was all pretty obvious. My head was just getting ready to explode thinking about how awesome the offense could be.

No problem with that man. It's okay to dream.

The truly great thing is that this dream could be a reality.

Wolverjag,

I am with you on Bulaga, although I still doubt that he will be available in Free Agency, but if he is then I think the Jags will make a nice offering.

I think the Jags really like Bowanko and will most likely not make an offer to Wisniewski.

When you compare Jordan Cameron to Julius Thomas one thing stands out and that is how many plays of over 20+ yards, Jordan Cameron makes over just about any other TE available in Free Agency. Simply put, Jordan Cameron is good for at least one big play every game and sometimes two. Julius Thomas is a dink and dunk type TE that is good in the red zone at least for Peyton Manning.

If Jordan Cameron concussion history checks out and he is deemed fine by the doctors, then I favor Cameron over Thomas.

Jeremy Maclin would be a nice addition but he is going to cost a fortune. If the Jags are looking for a deep threat, then I think Mike Wallace will end up on the market at a more reasonable rate. Tannehill can not throw the deep ball for squat and thus Wallace is wasted on the Dolphins roster. I think he will be cut by the Dolphins and Wallace could be signed before Free Agency begins.

So you want to sign Julius Thomas and then draft Maxx Williams? I would be surprised if Maxx Williams makes it to Pick 36, but if he does, I could see his selection.

I think there will be a run on RBs in Rd 2 and so I favor the selection of Tevin Coleman in Rd 2 and then settle for Clive Walford in Rd 3.

Other than that, love it!

I have seen mixed reports on Bulaga. It seems to be unlikely he gets tagged, so it all comes down to Packers striking a deal. Some predict they do, others don't. Regardless, we should be able to get Free or Barksdale, which are nice backup options.

Another mix on that one. In the end, I do agree, but I have seen some talk that we are considering pursuing Wisniewski.

What is nice with Cameron is that he may come at a discounted price due to his health concerns. I do feel we will come away with one of the top 3.

On Wallace, I read on bleacher report that the Dolphins wouldn't cut him until after like June 1st because the dead money hit would be a lot less if they cut him after that point. Right now, it sounds like they are more likely to trade him than cut him and I'm not sure I like trading for him.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/23365...am/page/18

Bulaga would solidify our right-tackle position for sure. Getting a guy like Julius Thomas is high risk/moderate reward in my eyes. He's athletic but was he a product of Manning and the fact that they had a three to four headed monster at times over the last two years on the outside with their receivers?

I would like to see this team take a chance on CJ Spiller though.

Regarding Mike Wallace, any team can cut a player prior to June 1st and designate that one player as a Post June 1st cut.

With a salary of close to $10 Mil, I doubt there will be any trade partners because he really is not a 1000 yard WR like he was with the Steelers. He is a deep threat that can make one to three big plays a game but more in taking the top of the defense.

Have Wallace running on the sideline and Jordan Cameron running up the middle and the Free Safety has to make a decision. Cameron should be faster than most Strong Safeties and Wallace may be the fastest WR in the NFL.

If the Jags could afford $10 Mil then I think the Jags could trade a 7th Rd pick to the Dolphins for him.

The Dolphin fans just don't want him going to New England.

Wallace could be a steal for the right price. Miami overpaid for him.

I think the Jags would be better off drafting a RB in Rd 2 than signing C.J. Spiller. Spiller was misused by the Bills last year and so he may be reluctant to come to an offense that has Nate Hackett involved in the game plan. Besides, the rumor mill says that he wants to reunite with Chan Galley with the Jets.

The Jags have a lot of Free Agent Cap space but they still need to address the LB position and they either do that in Free Agency by signing someone like Bruce Carter of the Cowboys, a sub 4.5 Strongside LB (Otto) or taking a LB in Rd 2, either Paul Dawson, Eric Kendrick or Denzel Perryman. There may be other LBs available in Rd 2.

I like Tevin Coleman over Spiller.

Denard Robinson is very similar to C.J. Spiller in that neither should be the workhorse RB.

I was watching a video on MSNSports and they were stating our dream offensive offseason means signing Julius Thomas, Jeremy Maclin and Ryan Mathews. I also saw in Sports Illustrated that they think we should target Mathews. In my mind, I'm not big on this because of his age as he is close to RB graveyard age and he already has a history of injury concerns. The only RB in FA that I would like to consider at this point is Ingram because he is still relatively young and is just now seeming to find himself. Otherwise, I think the draft is the way for RB and it will all be a game of who falls where.

Do you really think that Jeremy Maclin makes it to Free Agency?

Why would not the Raiders go full guns for Maclin?

It would be awesome to sign Maclin.

How we become an unstoppable offensive juggernaut...

simple... MAGIC!

either a magic 'power ring' or perhaps some item of antiquity that bestows magic super power to the bearer.

Outside of that I don't see it happening real soon, regardless of how much cap money we have.

I think bawanko played better than a lot of people give him credit for.  He had a struggling left guard for most of the year, a rookie right guard who got better as the year went on, and then the tackles with a rookie Qb to add that in.  Tbh going back and watching tape Bawanko was more than capable and the only knock was that he did get pushed back a couple times.  I'd like to think that an offseason will bulk him up and we'll have a steal from the 6th

I disagree. I wouldn't mind Todd Gurley with the 36th overall selection if he's there. However, as much as I love the kid. Afterall, I am a Bulldogs fan. I don't see the point in gambling there on him when he's oft injured. I say if we can sign CJ Spiller, you go for it. I think with the 3rd overall pick we will more than likely go defense but I am hoping for Amari Cooper instead. I think that kid is going to be great at the next level. I really do. And with Shorts more than likely leaving we only have three 2nd year receivers returning with some questions. Robinson is bouncing back from IR, Hurns was decent throughout the year but his hands are still a concern and was he only respectable because he knew Fisch's offense? Lee came on late. He flashed. Just late. So adding a guy like Cooper still gives the team competition and a playmaker on the outside. Which leaves me to RD2. In RD2, you double dip on offense again and you give Bortles a receiving threat at tight-end. I believe Maxx Williams will be there for us in the 2nd RD. I'll even throw in this option. Why not get a runningback in RD3 instead like Duke Johnson or Jeremy Langford?

Backfield in 2015:

CJ Spiller OR Duke Johnson/Jeremy Langford

Denard Robinson

Toby Gerhart

Receiving Core in 2015:

Amari Cooper

Allen Robinson

Allen Hurns

Marqise Lee

Tight-ends in 2015:

Maxx Williams

Marcedes Lewis
I think that Duke Johnson will be taken in Rd 2, while Jeremy Langford is not in the same class of RB.

Gordon, Gurley, Coleman and Johnson are my top 4 RBs. Any if these guys are what I call a Franchise RB like Fred Taylor or MJD.

One of these guys is going to be there at Pick 36. I doubt any will be there at Pick 67.

In my opinion, if Gus wants to jump start the Jags running game then he needs the Franchise RB to that and to get him he needs to draft a back in Rd 2.

C.J. Spiller gets hurt too easily when he is overworked. He is not much of an upgrade over Denard Robinson.

And Amari Cooper, well, I would hold my breath on that ever happening.

All I can say is, is it March 10th yet? I'm truly optimistic for once. Plenty of good options out there and we may actually try to get them. I can't wait until all this speculation ends and becomes reality, one way or another.

Actually all the fun is in the speculation. Once we know who has signed then most of the conversation will be on the draft.

Time goes by fast enough. Slow down and have fun with what is yet to come.

Very true. I just love this process. I'm always amazed at how quickly the guys are signed. Usually by March 14-15th, most of the top guys are already gone.
