Hi, Jaguars fans! NFL Network's Ian Rappaport just announced/ tweeted that the San Francisco 49ers will hire former NFL On FOX game analyst, and former Buccaneers and Broncos defensive back, John Lynch as their new General Manager, who previously had no NFL GM experience.
I thought you got fooled but it looks legit? What qualifies him to be GM? Sounds like a bad move but time will tell.
Because hiring a TV analyst worked out so well for Detroit.

Either or lol

Nothing. He was a very good player in the league, but Lynch didn't have any experience in any front office role in his life.

Detroit probably makes more sense since they hired Matt Millen from the booth.
Explains the Mark Dominic interest
And Shanahan is ok with this? I guess it should give him more power so maybe.

Not our problem
He seems like a smart enough guy.  May work out for them.  I've got a hunch the average NFL GM isn't gunning for a Mensa membership.  And NFL teams have unnecessarily limited themselves by looking at an extremely small pool of applicants.  I think intelligent, analytical people who listen to their scouts can do this job just as well if not better.

It is legit. Fox Sports and Ian Rapoport can't make this stuff up.

Apparently the only qualifier is knowing how all 32 teams operate from the inside because of his television job.
What I don't get is why hire him if he's going to hire a no. 2 that has experience? Why not just hire that guy instead

And playing for Mike Shanahan for a few years in Denver.
Just when you think you have reached the bottom of the barrel there is always just that little bit more down there.

This hiring shows how much no executive in the league wanted the job.

That does not automatically translate to success with Kyle, of course. We have seen what happens when the GM and HC join a team with very little talent together as rookies.
Per PFT, Lynch and Shanny Jr. will both get six-year contracts.

So, basically, the 49ers will be paying them to watch from home for three years.

Every decision Jed York makes feels clown like. Unfortunately for 9ers fans York likely isn't getting fired anytime soon.
