Quote:So you want to play against Leonard Williams twice a year? If he is anything like J.J. Watt, I certainly don't.
The ideal scenario would be Tennessee trades down so we can get the best defensive lineman instead of a division rival.
If. If.
If.
Don't get me wrong; I like Williams a lot. I also like the edge rushers and offensive tackles in this draft, and they're going to be options later in the top fifteen. If we end up with Williams, we got a player with the potential to be great. If we end up with Gregory, Fowler, Ray or Scherff, we still ended up with a player who has the potential to be great, only we got additional picks to drop down the board for him.

And if the Titans pick Leonard Williams, we have big problems playing against a guy who could have been ours 10 minutes later.

You have no idea how Williams will turn out so how do you know 'we have big problems'?

When everyone says he is a top five pick and some experts say he could even be a Buccaneer because of his talent, why should I believe he will be a bust? I can't make my own judgment about a guy I know nothing else about.

Why are you worrying now?! It's February and soooooo many things can change from now until the draft.
You just make topics to make them every time a thought pops into your head.
Stop worrying about the Titans pick. Let them screw up something that may OR may not happen in 2+ months.

You mean, kind of like Clowney? And who said anything about being a bust? You're the one that's making it out like he's going to be an immediate superstar and we are going to have 'big problems'.
There's a HUGE range between us 'having big problems' and Williams being a bust. You are aware of that, correct?
Are there really any players worth taking at the very top of this draft?
Haven't we learned from past drafts that there are just drafts that don't really have players worth taking at the top?
Sometimes trading back is the best option, but not always the most popular.

Right now it looks like if you don't need a quarterback (Jameis Winston) or defensive end (Leonard Williams), trading a few picks down would be a good idea. But we have to be smart about choosing a trade partner.
Just supposing a team is desperate enough to trade up for Winston or Mariota...
Why do they trade with us, instead of the Raiders, who are immediately below us ? (And who also have no need of a QB, but have plenty of holes to fill).
And if you were the GM of one of those teams, wouldn't you be on the phone to both us and the Raiders, to get the cheapest deal ?

If multiple teams are trying to move up they will want to secure the highest pick possible.

I remember when we traded up for Blaine Gabbert, Gene Smith called the Cowboys first. They declined to trade down, so he called the Redskins. That type of situation would be why a team calls both us and the Raiders.
Gimme Landon Collins & Ereck Flowers with the Browns picks. Then sign Suh, Houston, Cobb, & Clay. Second rd draft our TE

You have that backwards. We need to sign free agents
before the draft.
Also the Browns are not giving anybody both first round picks. Teams with two first round picks never do that.

so you're saying there may not be anyone worth taking at #3, but you expect someone to TRADE UP into that spot and give you extra picks for it?
What if everyone behind us says "Nah, we're good where we are. Your turn to pick."
Also, what if the only team willing to trade up to #3 is only offering you peanuts in exchange?

I'm just saying that some drafts are just better talent-wise then other drafts, especially at the very top of that draft and this upcoming draft appears to be one of those "lesser talented at the top drafts".
There is just no clear cut #1 or #2 player in this draft, at least to me anyway.
You could make a case for Winston or Mariota, because they are QBs and QB needy teams will always reach for a QB, but do you think either one is a true #1 player in this draft?
As far as what a team would give one of the teams picking 1,2 or 3 in the draft to move up, who knows, but it won't be some big big deal like we have seen in the past because that type of player just isn't in this draft.
One thing that is sure is that someone will be the #1 pick, the #2 pick, the #3 pick and so forth.
It's just a shame that once again, the Jags have a top 3 pick, and there's just not a guy who really looks like he can be a dominant game-changer in this draft, like there were in previous drafts.
Of course it will be up to Caldwell whether he stays with the pick or gets a good enough deal to trade back. We'll see what happens.
