JPP-Jackson-Jones-Allen, with Fowler and Ngakoue coming off the bench on passing downs and rotation.

That is a big boy DL. That is a championship DL. It's the type of DL that's not only big but athletic and will wear OL's down and put QBs into the dirt with authority.

Nah, Myles Garrett, opposite of jpp. First 3 pick will be qbs
we can dream

Wouldn't have any issue with that at all. Would be great.

The fear would be that JPP just cashes it in and coasts through the seasons after he gets his huge pay day this FA.

Can JPP even hold a pen to sign a contract? maybe if we just toss some ink on his stub?

What about Miller, Day, and Benett?? I don't think we bring in JPP... He would be like every other other DE we bought in from fa....We need to let the young guys continue to develop..

Those seem like rotational players more than starters. Kampmann and Clemons were old as dirt and at the end of their careers when we brought them in, JPP is only 28, he could be primed for 4-5 more good years. A few FA busts shouldn't make us gun shy of going out and getting really quality players where we can. We need DEs that can pass rush and you could also say that every other DE we have drafted has been a bust since about Tony Brackens, but you don't give up and stop looking.

I'm not even sure Miller and Bennett will make the roster. And I think JPP will respect Coughlin too much to cash it in.

Miller is probably gone soon, Day and bennett are backups/rotation guys.

Also allen is redundant after a JPP signing. I know we all like the idea of "endless pass rushers" but you wouldnt relegate yannick to a rotation after the season he had. Not saying hes arrived or anything but thats just poor evaluation and a lack of confidence in your player and the development you can provide.
Ngakoue is massively overrated by this fanbase. You do not pass on drafting a future All-Pro because you have Ngakoue. Fowler will probably be better than Ngakoue next year and I don't have any qualms about sitting him on the bench either. Anyway, if you're concerned about him sitting on the bench then you should be worried about signing JPP altogether, since Allen doesn't even play the same type of position as Ngakoue. Ngakoue is a designated pass rusher, that's it. He SHOULD be coming off the bench behind two good starters. If Fowler tightens up then he should be behind him too. It's a good thing when a guy like Ngakoue is your 4th best pass rusher, not your 1st-2nd.

if you were really shooting for constant rotation of rushers you would compound jpp/yannick with an older vet for strictly pass rush if you could find one, or another rookie outside the first round.
Once again, Ngakoue should not be starting. And once again, Allen doesn't play the same position. He would start at DE on run downs and move inside on pass downs, and occasionally rush from the outside. Just like how Alabama used him.

Seems more like you're seriously underrating Ngakoue, actually.

Yannick did fine in all phases, not sure why he should only be an off the bench guy. Fowler hasnt shown anything to suggest hell be better than Yannick unless he suddenly actually becomes good at rushing off the edge. Yannick showed more in his rookie season than fowler did, so why are you assuming Fowlers development and not yannicks? Why does fowler become a better player despite already being behind yannick but yannick doesn't develop enough to be a 2nd best pass rusher?

This is just a severe underrating of yannick, a total lack of the concept of development, and generally not a good use of value in any facet.

If not for Myles Jack falling Dave would've drafted him in the 2nd round. You don't draft guys that high to sit on the bench until it's time to rush the passer.
Ngakoue did not do fine in all phases. He sucks against the run, period. Go back and watch the tape. Fowler will be better than him, he has more natural talent. Ngakoue just has better technique than Fowler because that's how he had to win, Fowler has had more athleticism so he hasn't had to focus on his technique as much. Even if Fowler does not turn out to be better than Ngakoue as a pass rusher, Ngakoue still should not start. He is a designated pass rusher, not a 3 down guy. Ngakoue getting all those snaps is a big reason our run defense took a step back this year. Furthermore, he isn't even that special of a pass rusher. He is probably going to be a guy who will consistently get you 6-8 sacks per season and be a nice rotational pass rusher but we aren't talking about the next great NFL pass rusher here. Jonathan Allen has All-Pro, Aaron Donald, Ndamukong Suh, Michael Bennett potential, and will be a beast against both the run and pass. It's beyond asinine not to draft him because Ngakoue had 8 sacks this season.

You and a good bit of this fanbase are overrating Ngakoue and living in the moment. Dude is alright, you should not be building your team based around the fact you have him though, that is a mistake and anyone who actually watches the tape closely will tell you that.

We ranked 18 in run defense with 2 pass rushers playing their first season. Atlanta is 17 and in the Super Bowl.

Dave said he would have considered it, not absolutely have done it. He's just talking up a guy he drafted. They also said they would have drafted TJ Yeldon in the first round. So...

And guess what, he did not get drafted in the second round, he was drafted in the third. And guess what else, Caldwell is no longer calling the shots. Ngakoue is a designated pass rusher, nothing more nothing less. He should be coming off the bench. If Ngakoue is still starting for this team next year then they failed in the offseason. Dude is trash against the run and only decent as a pass rusher. It's like people are desperate for anything to hang their hat on and paint a rose colored picture in their head about some of these guys. People did the same thing with Bortles last year when he had a decent year and completely ignored the fact he still was a turnover machine and if not for high variance downfield plays would have been trash.

Chances are you are going to be disappointed next season then. If this regime is serious about Bortles then they will likely be taking Fournette and suring up the o-line this year. Right now he's our best edge rusher so get ready for more Ngakoue.

Dude, you are the one that needs to go back and watch the tape. Ngakoue isn't very good against the run, but he doesn't suck...

Ngakoue was tremendous for a rookie as far as pass rushing goes. He has all the makings of a consistent double digit (albeit low double digit most likely) sack guy in this league. That isn't "off the bench" material.

I like Fowler a lot, but there is no way you can sit here with a straight face and think as a pass rusher Fowler will be anywhere near Ngakoue as a consistent threat. Ngakoue was consistently beating high end LT's like Lewan, Cordy Glenn, Castanzo, etc. Fowler on the other hand did have his moments but they were few and far between (like most rookie edge rushers who comes into the league are).

We hit it big with Ngakoue, period. You saying people are overrating him, well you are severely underrating him.
