Rashad Jennings in the 7th round, Knighton in the 3rd. Brandon Marshall was a decent pick, as was Cecil, Tiquan was picked up by other teams.
He has an eye for talent, it seems that his philosophy as a GM is what his downfall was. Wish him the best.
Quote:Did he not trade up with all of first round picks?
2 of the 4, Monroe and Alualu "fell" to us

Monroe was projected to go as high as second overall when he came out. Alualu was a joke and a wasted pick, for sure, but Monroe was hardly a reach.

What was his philosophy as a GM?
Quote:We'll trade our long snapper for a 1st rounder, Gene.
We'll trade our punter for a 3rd rounder, Gene.
It's the least you can do for us...since you managed to do the least for us when you were here.

Were you living under a rock at the time?

Agreed, my post was misleading
Quote:What was his philosophy as a GM?
Too much emphasis on character, overvalued small school prospects, was careless (money wise) with FA signings in his last year.

As it turned out, Eugene Monroe turned out to be a much better NFL player than some of the players drafted above him in 2009. Jason Smith and Aaron Curry were mega disappointments.

I can't believe Jeans Miff got another job. Was this a Rex Ryan hire or a front office hire?

Ummmm, you
do realize that Rex Ryan isn't with NYJ anymore, right?

Clever, Jets.
Hire Gene Smith, and then do the opposite of what he says. Very smart.

I don't know why I had the Jets and Bills mixed up in my head. My bad.
Quote:Were you living under a rock at the time?
Yes I was, do you have a problem with that?
OK. I've been hearing a lot of this coming from 1010xl that Gene Smith didn't make himself "available" like the current regime or something like that. I didn't see it like that at all. Gene Smith was very interactive and transparent with fans. In fact, I thought that was his whole thing. He had his own radio show. And I remember him talking about topics and going into details that were way beyond what you'd expect from a GM.
Nobody's saying that Gene Smith isn't a nice guy. We're just saying that he was a terrible GM.

That's fine. But what I'm saying is he certainly made himself available as did the whole team during his time as GM. Obviously some things were different, but they were very transparent.
And this was before 1010xl was the station of the Jaguars, so I think it has more to do with them than Gene Smith. Sure he made some mistakes, but I don't like history being rewritten.
He'll be finding those diamonds in the rough that's for sure. Do not by any circumstance let him in the war room. We'll find him in a creek somewhere. Those jets fans are crazier than us.
