We've been over this repeatedly. A lot of the problem with the offense's inability to pass protect was due to scheme.

all taken in front of da man but he was still Top 10 production wise for WR's mane you can't chalk that straight up to just knowin da offense

I dont think as a offensive mind he was all bad. But he was completely clueless on how to manage and call a game or gameplan. Yesh the oline was terrible at times. yes the recievers dropped balls. but we still would have won at least 4 more games if he could make changes at halftime to overcome what the opposing defense was doing. or could call competent plays in situational downs such as 3rd and short 4 and short goaline and redzone. He really could not call a play to thwart the defensive scheme .

Allen Hurns will be a game breaker, mark my words

he's young

Who has the final say in the play called, Fisch, Gus, Blake?  I mean does Fisch suggest a few plays to Gus whom confirms and then calls it into Blake whom can still audible?

He was very impressive in preseason with different QBs, and into the season.  He played injured at times but made some big plays this year.

How much of the Oline's fault is the Oline coach (and / or his asst due to him leaving early this season with health issuses)?
Quote:Everyone said during the season that Allen Hurns was able to shine as an undrafted rookie due to his familiarity with the offense.

Now that Fisch is gone and the offense will change, will he have a harder time? Or is he talented enough to overcome it.
Better play calling will help everyone. However, there is a learning curve with a new offensive playbook and no one who is/was on the current roster is going to have prior knowledge of it to help like Hurns did with Fisch. So I think that we should not be surprised if we see a lot of the same sort of 'mental mistakes' (aka- receivers running the wrong routes for a given play call...) that we witnessed this past season. Plus it will take time for Bortles to learn that playbook also. Until he does, the play calling will probably be limited initially, which will of course have the consequence of our offense being predictable and experiencing lots of struggles... not unlike this season, actually.

I'm not certain now if reaching 6-10 will be an achievable goal given the challenges this team will have to face. Given the way the rules are set up for off season contact between coaches and players, the odds are starting to stack up against the Jags already for next season.

I hate being a wet blanket...
Quote:A new OC is going to make Hurns 10X better. No more 4 yard outs on  3rd and 7.

His double move is sick.  Wonder why Fisch didn't have him do that a few times a game.

The o-line's main problem was assignment recognition. A lot of that could have been solved by using formations that drew DBs and LBs out toward the boundaries or out of the game completely in the case of LBs.

Sure some guys got beat, but that's something that's going to happen sometimes when you're not dealing with a bunch of pro bowl veterans. The big problem was when guys would come completely unblocked up the middle because of assignment problems.
Let's hope thats the only problem and that the new OC will fix it.

There are a lot of problems on the team, but a lot of that will hopefully be solved in free agency and the draft this off season.

However, when a problem is recognized it needs to be corrected, not allowed to slide out of some kind of convenience.
Quote:his knowledge of the offense got him on the field before the rookies, his talent kept him there. diamond in the rough. Jerry polished him to be a very good receiver and next year can only get better.
He's got so much to learn still, he looks raw, far from "polished".  ARob is the best receiver on this roster by far.
Quote:If Gus hires the correct offensive coordinator then everyone on the offense will only improve over what they were this year.

While Fisch may have been a relative infant trying to jam square pegs into round holes a great offensive coordinator will evaluate the strengths of the guys already on the team and design his scheme to complement the strengths and comfort zones of the guys already on the team.
That's a big "IF". The next 5 years boils down to faith in Bradley. It's a scary thought. It was rather bizarre him arguing about his challenge flag the last game. It was perhaps ten minutes and multiple possessions later and Gus was raging on. He couldn't let it go. It was like a personal insult in the last game, after a bad season, and he was fed up and he was not having any of it and went sort of nuts. It did not remind me much of Bill B, or Don Shula, or Harbaugh. They hit and move. Gus reminds me of that crazy guy who insists you have been staring at his girlfriend across the bar and his friends have to pull him away. Perhaps he is too emotional and not cerebral enough for the top job.

Are you kidding? I've seen Harbaugh gnaw on a bad call with the officials for quite a while.

Bradley hasn't done much yet to convince me he's the man, but talking to the officials for a while is the least of my concerns about him.

What's more concerning is that he thought the call was worth challenging in the first place.

Teams with quality talent run the scheme successfully.  You are wrong, again.
It should not have been challenged, he has a problem with it.

Doing better.  Execution, players...NOT scheme.
