I am thinking, especially with the recent injury to Marks, we should at least pickup the 5th year option on this guy. He provides solid depth across the line and could backup both Bryant and Hood. Marks is likely to start the year on PUP.
Agreed, I think Alualu is worth what the Jags paid Miller.
I think it's a player option, not team option.
Absolutely, we don't need to create more holes to fill this offseason. We've got an offseasons worth of work to do alone on the offensive side of the ball. Try and retain as much talent as possible on the defensive side and upgrade if we can but certainly don't take a step back by letting role players walk.
Nope. Go draft some youth.
Yes. Contrary to popular belief around here Alualu played well in his spot this year.
$? I'd like to see a longer 2 to 3 year deal with incentives built in for snaps, TFL, tackles, and work out bonuses. He's a big guy who can move and knows the system.
Miller and Marks are coming off season ending surgeries. Bryant seemed to tail off at the end of the year too.
The only way I would choose to keep Tyson would be if he signed for the vet minimum.
Anything more than that could be spent on a better player.

Exactly

If you're asking how much he'll make; his salary is $2.44 million, his cap number is just shy of $4 million.
If you're asking if that too much; it's a little more than you'd like to pay but by no means unreasonable. And the Jaguars aren't hurting for cap space anyway.

I think most people are like myself they werent really upset at Tyson Alualu himself, but rather the GM / franchise for making a huge reach. It was the lies and silly justification and hype after the drafting that further upset the fan base, and I feel Tyson Alualu felt the hatred from the fans when they saw his lack of performance on the field. He cant help that the team reached up to the first round and paid him silly money for just a guy (depth DT/DE) at best. He wouldnt start on most teams as he doesnt for the Jaguars. I could see them keeping him for depth if he restructured his contract for less, but I dont really care what they pay the man as its not my money & the cap has tons of room.
He has played a bit better this year with a good supporting cast around him, and a fantastic DLine coach.
Its a players Option not the teams. He can choose to be a free agent or stay and play.
I think he is every bit as valuable as Roy Miller and is worth extending at around 4 Mil per season like many of his teammates. He ma not be a starter but he plays like a co-starter and should be paid like Ziggy Hood was paid to be a co-starter.
Give him a 4 Yr - 16 million extension and get out of his way, because he is just coming into his own as a player at the 5TechDE.
He and Leonard Williams will do great things at that position. Remember Leonard Williams will need to be rotated and Alualu is the man to rotate with him on this roster.
The money is there, so pay him and move on.

Was going to say the same thing.
Big Cat Country posted an article last week and had it wrong too.
It is up to Alualu and, quite frankly, I don't know why he would not pick up his own option.

With the injury to Marks i would think he would stay cause he would get more playing time and his value as a free agent is not as much as what we would pay him.
Its a player's option, so he's going to pick it up. With Marks likely limited early on, it's not like the Jaguars aren't going to need him. It's not like Hood did anything this season. Tyson is probably still our third best run defender.
