This team won't be paying a fourth receiver the kind of coin you suggest, and his contract expectations are going to be significantly higher.


With Robinson, Lee, Hurns, and possibly Blackmon, this team has no need for an often injured receiver with suspect hands. He's not a #1 or 2 receiver. He's not a third either. If this team has an interest in finding a veteran receiver, there will be other options.


If Shorts is the best receiver in free agency, that speaks more to the lack of quality than anything else.


He's done as a Jag.


As far as Sanders goes, I think he's probably done as well. Streeter offers unique size and ability that an off season of guidance under Jerry Sullivan may tap into. We know what we've got in Shorts, and it's nothing unique enough to warrant retention.

Ok, if we dont bring him back then fine with me lol.  He will get more money elsewhere.   Doss is the guy im curious to see next year.  Dave kept him on the roster for a reason and he will most likely be our 4th or 5th WR and punt returner

Doss has potential. Hes a proven return guy. Probably would have ended Sanders tenure here had he not been injured.

i dont see us re-signing him even for cheap

Pains me to hear you talk about your boy like this. Him being the best receiver on the team and all is shocking to see this fall this quick since only the preseason.

But...but...Stephen Hill!

I would rather see Sanders get playing time over Shorts. 

I could see him landing in Carolina, they do need help still. I originally thought the browns but I wonder if he will land in oakland like most jags :p

 

I personally would be alright bringing him back if it was cheap but I expect him to get more money.

I wish we could graph out Jags fans happiness with Shorts during his tenure with the team. It'd read crazier than the stock market. First he was a bust who should be cut, then he was a great late round find, then he was a great, young, #1 WR, then he started complaining about not getting the ball and all of a sudden he was overrated, then he was a glorified #2, then he wasn't even a #2 but a guy who stat padded, then he was a great #2 who along with Blackmon was going to help Bortles out, and now he's one of the worst WR's in the league. Even more impressive, Shorts managed to run through all those emotions in just 4 seasons.

 

I think he definitely played himself off the team this year, but he put in the effort for the team. I won't knock the guy for trying. I thought he was generally overrated by the board for most of his tenure and disliked a lot of what he said in the press, but, at least the guy wasn't arrested or suspended like most of the Jags starting WR's lately. And he made some nice catches in his time in Duval. Time for him to go try to redeem his career somewhere else though.

Anybody remember his first two games in Gabbert's second season? The deep fly against the Vikings for the TD was glorious... only we lost that game cause #BecauseJaguars

Best of luck to him wherever he goes, had a bad year this year due to a lot of drops but I'm sure he'll rebound. Cleveland would be a good fit.

He made some great catches in Sunday's game where he really had to extend himself. I still think he's a good player and worth looking into offering a second contract. He's the kind of guy that leaves for the Patriots, and becomes Tom Brady's target practice dummy, nabbing 70-80 balls.

I think we all know he played below expectations this season. He's also battled injuries. That said, be careful what you wish for. Most wide receivers don't really hit their full stride until year 3. If we're relying on all 2nd year WRs in ARob, Lee, and Hurns...I think we'll be in line for most of the same next season. Keep in mind that Lee and Hurns both have the case of the dropsies, and its not like Lee doesn't have an injury history either.
