Quote:I wonder how much money Greg Hardy will command in FA. I know he was suspended last year but that guy's an elite pass rusher. If the Jags could get him even slightly discounted because of his legal problems, that would be a good pickup if, of course, he doesn't get in trouble. A big if but the Jags are at the point in their history where they have to take some chances on people.
And that's one guy I would not take a chance on.
What I want is Stefen Wisniewski©, Orlando Franklin(As RT), Dez Bryant(WR), Mark Ingram(RB), Charles Clay(TE), Jerry Hughes(DE), Justin Houstin(OLB), Bruce Carter(MLB), Darrelle Revis(CB), Devin McCourty(FS). Obviously, not going to happen, but it is what I want. 1 guy off this list and I'm happy. 2 guys or more and I'm over the moon.

Im with you, if we sign one guy im happy. 2 or more... we scored. I like most everyone you listed.
Quote:Should the Jags want to sign Bulaga, the cost will most likely be in line with what Branden Albert formerly of the Chiefs signed with the Dolphins with 5 Year contract worth 47 Mil, averaging 9.4 Mil per season.
So the Jaguars will pay LT money for a RT? That's not going to happen.
Here's a tip:
10% increase of what last years premiere RT inked is what Bulaga will most likely receive.
What I find most interesting is that all tackles are treated the same in terms of Franchise Tag numbers. While I am not totally sure, it recall reading that all Olineman are treated as the same according to the Franchise Tag designation. Accordingly, a RT is the same as a LT when it comes to money paid to a player who is tagged.
The 2014 Franchise Tag price for an Olineman, whether it be a RT or a OLG, or a Center was set at $11.654 Million.
I am thinking this would carry over to the cost of Free Agents on the open market.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000330088/article/nfl-releases-2014-franchise-transition-tag-numbers
2014 figures just used as a reference.
Quote:According to Breer, below are the following official franchise and transition tag numbers per position for next season. The franchise tag amount is the average of the top five salaries at each position for each year, while the transition tag starts with the average of the top 10 salaries for each season at each position.
Based on that criteria, the average top 5 salaries for a RT will be $28.8 million total with $9.4 million guaranteed.
10% increase in total value would yield a 5 year deal around $32 million dollars and $10.5 to [12.75] million guaranteed.
Bulaga would be paid as a top 3 RT if he inks that deal, earning him around $6.4 million per year.
However, if we calculate salary based solely on the highest paid RT (with the intent on making Bulaga the highest paid RT) and take a 10% increase of his contract, the figures are 5 years $38.5 million and about $17 million guaranteed. Still nowhere near that $9.4 million yearly and $50 million total value.
I expect Bulaga to ink a deal somewhere between what Marcus Gilbert and Gosder Cherilus signed.
edit: brackets contain guaranteed money recalculated using rookie as well as free agent deals also this is an estimate at best.
60+ million in cap? I expect no less than two splashes
Quote:60+ million in cap? I expect no less than two splashes
Agreed, however I am fearful of the pool drying up big time by the time free agency actually starts. Between stupid franchise tags and players signing with their old team, this really deep FA class may be shallow by the time we are able to get to anybody.
Quote:Devin McCourty | NE
(February 7, 2015 10:56 AM EST)
The Boston Herald expects the Patriots to use the franchise tag on impending free-agent FS Devin McCourty.
With a deal unlikely to be reached before the March 2 franchise-tag deadline, the Patriots' best chance of keeping McCourty off the market is the franchise tag. The tag for safeties should be somewhere around $9 million, but New England would hope to work out a long-term deal this offseason. McCourty will be Rotoworld's No. 1 available safety if he reaches free agency.

We can cross him off the wish list.

Not sure the legalities of it, but if teams can put a clause in his contract that voids it if he is convicted of DV, he could be pretty enticing on the open market. 26 year old with 26 sacks in his last two seasons played.

I'm pretty confident those four don't hit free agency.

I think Revis does. Patriots don't have the cash to pay him and McCourty.
Dez definitely won't. Houston will be tagged and probably McCourty too.
I like Joe Barksdale for RT

I think they work out a longterm deal with Revis before free agency starts.

<p style="margin:0in;">Bryon Maxwell-Guy has been good for "The Legion of Boom" and might be one of the more expensive guys on this list but the guy is typical Seattle corner and would be a great addition to our Defensive Backs
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">Tashaun Gipson-Will be the hardest guy to get out of all of these free agents because he is an RFA, if we do get him though the guy is a ballhawk had 6 INTs and 8 PDAs in just 11 games this year before spraining his MCL. Would be great with Cyp in the back end of the secondary and well he plays good in Jax(had 2 picks)
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">Dan Skuta-Should not be expensive but would be a great backup linebacker for our young starters
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">Kelvin Sheppard-Has bounced around the league in his young career but was a solid linebacker in Buffalo and it didnt workout in Indy but is having a decent year as a backup with the Phins
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">Brandon Tate-The answer to our return problems is this guy,was a beast on special teams with NE and now is at Cincy and while Pacman mainly does the returning now this guy is still good and is not a bad #4 WR
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">Louis Delmas-Went to Miami this year and was having an above average year starting for them but tore his acl a couple weeks ago but could be a cheap back up to cyp whom would add starting experience and a veteran presence to the back end of the secondary
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">Terrance Cody-The guy is BIG and is a upgrade over Arby Jones at NT and wold be a good backup for Roy Miller as a rotational run stopper
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">King Dunlap-Having a pretty good year out in SD, has been in the league for 5 years now and would be an upgrade over Pazstor and Young
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">Virgil Green-Because Clay Harbor cant block and Green is a really good blocker he would be a cheap pickup that would provide the team with depth and help in run support
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">
<p style="margin:0in 0in .0001pt;">Davin Joseph-Our O-Line sucks and while Joseph is past his prime he can be a solid backup Guard with his starting experience and can still be used in spot duty
Cyp n Gip? lol
So is there any specific reason why the Jags should NOT pursue Greg Hardy of the Panthers now that his indictment has been thrown out of court? Today, Jason Cole of Bleacher Reports suggested that the NFL is not going to punish Greg Hardy any further and since the Panthers have already stated that they will not attempt to re-sign Greg Hardy, then should the Jags consider signing him in Free Agency?
In 2013 Greg Hardy had 15 sacks and in 2012, he had 11 sacks.
He is 6'4" 274 lbs and will be 27 years old next season, so he fits all the criteria for playing the Leo position.
If the Jags could sign JPP, then he would most likely be my first choice, but Hardy may actually be better and certainly a cut above Jerry Hughes.
So what are your thoughts on signing Greg Hardy a non-convicted person who paid his dues.
I think any of those 3 options would be a very good option. I would gladly take Hardy, Hughes or JPP. I think now that we know that Hardy is cleared he should be likely to play this next season. If he can stay on the field, he is a very good sack machine. Hughes has had back to back solid years rushing the passer and also plays good against the run which is a big plus. JPP was classified as inconsistent by most people and still recorded 12.5 sacks. If we got any one of these 3, I would be ecstatic.

He could be an option but you would have to wonder his football conditioning being out of the league for a year. You also would want to protect yourself in signing a contract with him with provisions against off the field infractions. Any other domestic violence incidents should render the contract null and void with no other guaranteed money paid.

I've been wrong many times before but I believe the team that signs Greg Hardy is going to be dealing with a strong P.R. backlash. While the courts technically cleared him, based on the previous Judge's ruling and the circumstance for Hardy being cleared, I don't think that's going to satisfy a large % of the people. Especially, when factoring in what transpired with the Ray Rice situation.

I'll be surprised if "many" fans express dislike of Greg hardy. If he were Michael Sam ...
I also wouldn't be so sure he won't be disciplined by the NFL. He still committed domestic violence. Just because he paid off the victim doesn't mean he's clean in the eyes of the NFL.
