I also wouldn't be so sure he won't be disciplined by the NFL. He still committed domestic violence. Just because he paid off the victim doesn't mean he's clean in the eyes of the NFL.

I'm anticipating the NFL suspending Greg Hardy.   The last 15 games of the regular season,  Hardy was paid by the Carolina Panthers even though he couldn't play.   That's not going to understandably be enough to satisfy the NFL.

Eventually though,  Hardy will be likely be able to sign with another team.   Yet,  even after a suspension,  there's a good chance that most teams are going to stay clear of him despite Hardy having differential playing ability.

I guess I'll be the first fan to express my distain for Mr Hardy. I would be very disappointed to see him brought in.

I know you are not advocating him, but I would hope you are wrong about Jacksonville's feelings on the issue.
Quote: I've been wrong many times before but I believe the team that signs Greg Hardy is going to be dealing with a strong P.R. backlash.  While the courts technically cleared him,   based on the previous Judge's ruling and the circumstance for Hardy being cleared,   I don't think that's going to satisfy a large % of the people.  Especially,  when factoring in what transpired with the Ray Rice situation.

I think the NFL will come down on Hardy, but I don't anticipate a strong backlash from fans. Ask casual fans (or even non-fans) who Greg Hardy is. They wouldn't know. Now, ask who Ray Rice is.

That's what TMZ does for you. Right or wrong, the leak of Rice's hotel video put him in the spotlight. If not for that video, he wouldn't be a huge story. Kind of like how it was when it first happened. The hardcore football fans knew about it, but not "everyone". Then, the video dropped online...and suddenly everyone who had access to the internet knew who Ray Rice was.

While what Hardy did will offend a lot of people, I think the fact that the girl took a civil settlement will sway some people's mind.
I've been a fan of Hardy ever since he was at Ole Miss, and I still can't believe he fell to the Sixth Round. The only issue with him is that I don't get the feeling that football is truly a passion for him. He has all of the natural gifts in the world, but maybe not the desire.

That being said, I'd still like to have him on the roster.

I wouldn't be so certain about the lack of any strong backlash from the fans, especially here in Jacksonville.  The NFL has pumped a ton of money into pushing their new anti-domestic violence policy, and to denounce the behavior anywhere it happens.  I doubt many teams would relish the opportunity to bring in a guy who is documented to be one of the more notorious perpetrators.

The only reason the case is going away is because they've basically bought the victim off.  I don't think the girl taking a settlement is going to diminish what transpired, and there will be a vocal group of fans who won't just let it go. I don't care how good a player is.  Few teams will want to deal with that kind of distraction.

Though I believe most casual fans or non fans didn't know who Greg Hardy was before the incident in which a judge found him guilty,   I believe that he will be well known by the American public overall if he signs with the Panthers or another team.   In part because of TMZ and other media outlets that focus on stuff that takes place beyond the white lines than between the white lines.   While I'm no fan of the vast majority of these media outlets,  what Hardy did according to the original judge in the case is enough of a reason for a team to stay clear of him forever.

If Greg Hardy ends up signing another NFL contract,  I'm going on record in predicting that there will be organized protests and boycots against the team he signs with and possibly even the entire NFL.

This is very much along the lines of how I view the Greg Hardy situation moving forward.
Just to make this clear, Greg Hardy was never convicted of any crime in this case. None of us know the circumstances of the case, nor anything about the woman who made the charges.

From my understanding, most cases in the State of North Carolina go before a judge who acts very much like a Grand Jury and the Judge makes a determination based upon the evidence of whether the case should go to trial. At this point the person charged with the crime can ask for a Jury Trial, which is done through an appeal process.

Basically, most of the commentators above have taken the approach of "Guilty until proven innocent" which is in lock step with everything else that is totally messed up with this country at this time. This is a most challenging time to be alive because the world is in the midst of tribulation.

From the original post I cannot wait to see who the club likes at RT. Not to thrilled with the LG pick in Beadles last year.

We need a TE maybe Clay

A solid center to either backup or start

FA receiver that will not cost much since we are so deep here.

DE or DT for depth because of Marks injury.

And throw the bank at the best FS we can find.

Also a OLB is needed. OLB or DE (leo) could be the same

You can go pretty cheap on most of these above. The main players are to be picked up in the draft. If we have another home run like we hit last year we are in terrific shape for 2016.

I complained last year about how this team was coached. They seem to have corrected the problems I saw.

I do not recall who, but recently, one of the big sport news entities did an evaluation of talent on each team and SURPRISE, SURPRISE this entity found that the Jags lacked top end talent. Since most top end talent is acquired through the draft and Jean Smiff - Wunderkid proved to be a crackerjack talent evaluator such that the Jags are practically devoid of any homegrown talent. So the Jags have an opportunity during Free Agency to acquire some top end talent and I believe the Jags management team is going to do their part to acquire this talent and upgrade the talent base for the team.

Stigma you know you look at FA pickups for teams and they most of the time are filler spots for hopefully the good draft players you pick. Do I think we have the long time answer in any of the above picks.......no!

But its fun trying

Again I agree 100%. Would you take Hardy. I would in a heatbeat

I agree with alot of this. If "big money" is spent, I would think it would be on a FS like McCourty. If Justin Houston were to hit free agency (which he won't), I could see him being the big target.

A veteran right tackle is almost a must. Tight end too.

Outside of those, I can see modest veteran additions similar to what we have seen the last two offseasons.
I'd like to see wisniewski(sp) and jpp or orakpo

Wiz might be the most important FA signing. Veteran guy who is familiar with Olson to put on the line as an upgrade...could be huge.
After listening to a number of local commentators on the radio, it seems that the Jags Coaching Staff really like what Bowanko can do and they are projecting him to be a very solid center going forward, once he receives a little better coaching. With Stefan Wisniewski's price tag hovering at 5 Million or more, I think the Jags may pass on signing the Raider's Center.

If say the Giants cut J.D. Walton, then I could see the Jags signing Walton on the cheap as a backup Center.

Anybody know the date when team can start using the Franchise tag?

So we can get a better idea of who is gonna be available.

If Houston were to hit FA, you would have to empty your pockets.

I believe it is next Monday. At this point, I've seen that these tags are all but certain at this point: Lions: Suh, Broncos: Demaryius Thomas, Cowboys: Bryant. I've seen others as speculation like Chiefs tagging Houston and Patriots tagging Devin McCourty.

I want to compile an entire list of teams and list the player I think is most likely to get tagged and the odds of that person getting the tag and see how close I come:

Patriots:        Devin McCourty(90%)

Dolphins:      Charles Clay(5%)

Bills:             Jerry Hughes(55%)

Jets:             David Harris(<1%)

Colts:           Mike Adams(<1%)

Titans:          Derrick Morgan(<1%)

Jaguars:       Cecil Shorts(<1%)

Texans:        Kareem Jackson(<1%)

Steelers:      Jason Worilds(15%)

Ravens:       Torrey Smith(<1%)

Browns:        Jordan Cameron(5%)

Bengals:       Jermaine Gresham(<1%)

Chiefs:          Justin Houston(90%)

Broncos:       Demaryius Thomas(99%)

Raiders:        Stefen Wisniewski(5%)

Chargers:      King Dunlap(20%)

Cowboys:       Dez Bryant(99%)

Giants:          Jason Pierre-Paul(25%)

Eagles:          Jeremy Maclin(65%)

Redskins:      Brian Orakpo(<1%)

Bears:           Stephen Paea(5%)

Vikings:         Jasper Brinkey(<1%)

Lions:            Ndamukong Suh(99%)

Packers:        Randall Cobb(65%)

Saints:           Mark Ingram(5%)

Panthers:      Greg Hardy(<1%)

Falcons:        Matt Bryant(25%)

Buccaneers:  Mason Foster(<1%)

49ers:            Chris Culliver(<1%)

Rams:            Kenny Britt(<1%)

Seahawks:     Byron Maxwell(30%)

Cardinals:      Antonio Cromartie(<1%)

In the end, I see 6 players getting tagged: McCourty(Patriots), Suh(Lions), Bryant(Cowboys), D. Thomas(Broncos), Houston(Chiefs), and 1 player of Hughes(Bills), Cobb(Packers), Maclin(Eagles).
