LOL. I guess all it takes is a ton of posts to be a moderator. Any kind of football sense need not apply. Oh and be a homer that may help. Who knows if this post will make it to the board as I have been suspended before, but I was so close to starting a new post until I saw this one. My post was going to be just about how at the beginning of the season there was a post that said not in so many words what would it take for Caldwell to trade Bortles. There were replies that said it would take Luck and draft picks. I replied on that post saying that Luck is a top 5 QB in his 3rd year. I may have overstated that, but maybe not. I got laughed at saying that Luck is better and we would need to trade a lot more. That's when I realized that replying to this board sometimes is an exercise in futility, but it's still fun. I respect a lot of the posters on this board and that's why I choose to come back. Some get it, then we have others who are too blinded by the teal that makes it comical. Go Jags!!!
Luck is indeed, in my opinion, a top 5 QB. However, I believe Bortles can become a top QB as well. I know everyone was talking about Bortles potential at the beginning of the year, and when Luck was drafted all people could talk about was how he was NFL-ready and how he looks off receivers, blah, blah. In the case of Bortles, it was a very different first year because he's on the 3-13 Jaguars and, "my god, look at those interceptions!". Bortles has exceptional arm strength and while people are questioning his accuracy, that does indeed come with proper mechanics which is why I believe after this off-season Bortles will come out on fire, if you will.
agreed. i was hoping that we could let blake sit all year as he needs to hone his mechanics. turned out we couldn't and he didn't show bad but he may have gone away from his throwing mechanics in desperation. i still believe we have a good qb developing and who knows maybe even a great one.
Quote:Pro bowls he wasn't even voted into. David Garrard is a pro bowler too then!
Good awards...shall I list the top qbs to compare to?...
Passer rating Career:
Luck 86.6
Manning 97.5 (including much harder passing era. 107 in Denver)
Brady 95.9
Rodgers 106
Rothlisberger 93.9
Garrard 85.8
Gabbert 66.8
Brees 95.4
Rivers 95.7
You see why he is overrated while being a good player? He's not as good as the guys he's compared to
Luck was compared to Manning coming out and has performed better than Manning through the first three seasons of their careers.
For the record I think Manning is better but Luck has the potential to be one of the best. I think that's all anyone is saying. Only time will tell.
Also the Rating can be misleading because Luck is only in his 3rd year whereas the other guys have 2-3x + as many seasons.
I think if you were to redo the list with everyone's rating after 3 seasons it would look different.

I agree with you but people say he is elite already so he will be treated as such when compared

Most Luck fans do not say that he is elite, yet. They say that he has all of the tools and definitely has shown enough to be considered elite, eventually. Luck fans aren't blind to the turnovers -- it drives them crazy.
For example, Alex Smith will never be considered elite. He has never shown the ability to be considered elite, while Luck has shown enough in a very short amount of time.
As for the Bortles comparison, I truly do not think there is any. Here are the reasons why Bortles did not have an amazing season:
1. Poor O-line
2. Lack of run game
3. inexperienced receiving corps, with the exception of Shorts
4. Poor overall talent on the team, including defense.
5. Coaching
Luck dealt with all of these same issues, but still played well enough his rookie year to lead the team to the playoffs. I believe that if Luck was drafted by the Jaguars, the Jaguars would be in the playoffs and the Colts would be watching from home -- he's that good, just not elite, yet.

I see a few problems with you saying Luck had all of those problems...
"Coaching"
Oh, really? Bruce Arians led the Colts that year, you remember him? The guy who's being talked about as coach of the year?
"Poor overall talent on the team, including defense."
The Colts had an average defense that year, not the worst but not the best. The Jaguars did experience a similar defense but they weren't defenses lacking talent.
Overall the Colts were way more experienced and talented in 2012 than the Jaguars were in 2014.
Also, you believe Luck was good enough to lead this team with "poor overall talent" to the playoffs, but somehow he's not elite. Can you name any good/above average QBs who
led their team to the playoffs?
Journeyman Fitzpatrick is better than Bortles. Luck by infinity. Dumbest thread ever.

Coaching: Bruce Arians ran a pass-happy, vertical throwing offense that called for a lot of 7-step drops and deep throws. He got Roethlisberger beat to hell in Pittsburgh (reason why he was let go), and we saw that the same was happening with Luck. Then he went to Arizona and got Carson Palmer beat to hell, and then Drew Stanton. He is a Coach of the Year candidate, but realistically, he inherited a top-notch defense, and a potent offense missing a QB. With the arrival of Carson Palmer, they became a complete team.
The Colts did not have an average defense. They were ranked #23 in total defense and would've been worse if the offense didn't lead the league in third down conversions. The offense kept the Colts poor defense off of the field.

Give him another 3 years and I guarantee you he's closer to a 100 qbr than the 86 he's at right now.
Quote:There certainly are a lot of posters who look foolish for not actually reading the poll.
It's about which can be better.
Given Luck is pretty much the same QB he was the year before he left Stanford, there's no doubt Bortles has a chance to be better in the long run.
Luck is a high floor guy who looks like he's already at his ceiling. You certainly can't say the same about Bortles.
Lol

Lol already at his ceiling? Hahah
You sure do know your football....
Im ashamed but not surprised 31 percent of this fanbase is so dumb.
Quote:I love the two homers who voted Bortles. Luck is in a totally different league right now. Infact Andrew Luck maybe the best Qb in the AFC. Yes better than brady
Guess we'll get to see that next weekend huh?
Give yourself a hand Jaguars franchise for assisting in the Colts going to the AFC Championship game. The fans felt giddy leaving the stadium from that meaningless win in January a few years back. That momentum carried over and we took off afterwards.

Horrible mentality. I'm sure the professional athletes were thinking the same thing.
Hate to say it, fellas, but Luck is Elite. He's now the 3rd best QB in the league and is basically on a HOF trajectory...
So unless we got super lucky with BB5 and he just had a typical HOF rookie season like P.Manning did, he's not gonna be as good as Luck.
So basically that means we need to have a better team around BB5 and a great coach/OC that can attack luck and match scores with Lucks offense...
It's gonna be a tough 15 years, y'all...
Quote:Horrible mentality. I'm sure the professional athletes were thinking the same thing.
Plenty do. Hell a lot only think about their money and damn everything else. On that day they should've, I know the Colts were.
Anyone who's even debating Bortles vs Luck is clueless.
Our guy needs a lot of work just to become average.
Nice work jags for beating the colts in the season finale and handing Indy a HOF Player (barring injury).
Quote:Plenty do. Hell a lot only think about their money and damn everything else. On that day they should've, I know the Colts were.
Colts management was, not the players. The FO made sure the Colts players were put into position not to win. The players on the field played to win.
