Treestone, actually we are in agreement about Randall Cobb. I was just saying I would love to have him in Jacksonville if the Packers decide not to keep him (which IMO would be stupid).
Quote:Put me in the column that would love to sign both Randal Cobb and DeMarco Murray.
BTW, how are we going to spend 60+ Million in cap space for 2015?
Signing these two if available would be a good start.
I'd rather look at a right tackle, free safety, tight end and outside linebacker. I am all for signing a veteran receiver but not at what Cobb will cost.
And I'd rather draft a back in rounds two or three.

When talking about veterans, I think a wide receiver or running back is much easier to get than a free safety or right tackle. Drafting is the way to go for a tight end. Do we really need a veteran outside linebacker?
I could see the Jags signing Jason Worilds from the Steelers as the Otto LB. Worilds has experience rushing the QB as well as dropping back in coverage.
In a division with Andrew Luck, the only chance the Jags have in winning the division is to sack Luck on multiple occasions so he never feels comfortable in the pocket.

Our defensive line did sack him. Luck is going to feel comfortable in the pocket as long as the Colts have a better offensive line than ours.
No doubt the Jags need to establish a running game to compliment Bortles, but the Oline talent is not the real problem with the offense.
The real problem with the offense is learning to play together and believe in each other.
I fully expect Bortles to make major improvements in his game in his 2nd season as a starter.
I fully expect that the Front Offense will upgrade the talent level on the roster and especially on offense.
The difference between winning and losing games in the NFL can come down to merely a few plays per game.
Young players have to learn to play together and believe that they can win and when they do, the winning will follow.
I don't think it is possible to identify one problem that is holding us back. Chemistry is certainly an issue with inexperienced players, but you cannot deny we need an older right tackle and better backups on the offensive line. I have no doubt it will be upgraded next year along with several other positions, so with the NFC South and Jets on our schedule we can win more games. At that point the biggest cause of our losing record will become more obvious.
I'd take him in a heartbeat. He's a playmaker AND he can return punts. This team needs guys like that and a veteran on the offense WITH that kind of talent would be helpful for the young guys.
I'd take a guy like McCourty over a WR though. A guy like that would go a long way in helping the defense turn the corner. FS is a giant need for this team.
As is a pass catching TE.
OL depth and a starter or 3 wouldn't hurt either.

You sound like we are not allowed to sign both Cobb and McCourty in the same offseason. There is no reason we can't.
Give me Cobb, Bulaga, and Murray and I will be a happy Jaguars fan.

I agree with this. I'm pretty sure we're set at WR. What do we need to bring in a veteran WR now? By next year our rookies will be considered vets and will be ready to rock and roll...
I'd rather spend our money in free agency fixing the holes we have, not adding players to a part of our team that is already set for a long time. I honestly hope they aren't serious about that.
They should focus on the spots you mentioned in bold.

As others have already mentioned, signing Randall Cobb would give us a good punt returner. We have no wide receivers with that ability. Replacing Ace Sanders with Cobb would help us a lot there. I wouldn't say let's go get a wide receiver who never returned a punt.

agree with everything except for your opinion on Cobb. Too many Jags fans are cheap. We HAVE TO spend to the floor cap. Cobb is young and still ascending . It's ignorant to not give him a very very rich deal. The cheap mindset only cripples this fan base.. I

Luckily, you're not the one managing our spending.

Classic case of embracing mediocrity.
Not wanting to give big money to a young ascending player that can line up all over the field and return punts is freaking asinine . Case. Closed.

You sure have a strong opinion about your opinion. If i'm spending big money on this team, while being fiscally responsible and mindful of the future and where this team is today, i'm not dropping it on a wide receiver. In my opinion, that would be asinine.
We're allowed to spend money on the other positions too.
If you sign Cobb, you pretty much commit to taking away snaps from one of Allen Robinson, Lee or Hurns. That would stunt our own young and ascending players' development. Besides that, Lee has the same skill set as Cobb.
There are plenty of needs to spend crazy on to get us to the cap floor.

Exactly. To blow our load on a WR is just not even worth arguing about. It's dumb and not going to happen.
Randall Cobb has a skill set that is not strictly tied to the WR position. In a sense he would be like Shoelace an act as another offensive weapon. The Jags have shown they like to mix things up and thus Cobb could be an attractive option for the Jags Offense. Replacing Shorts with Cobb is fine by me.

How does a "cheap mindset only cripple the fan base" exactly?
