Quote:With the cap, I'd certainly like to see them give a hard run at Cobb like they did Mack last year. Make as big an offer as you reasonably can if he's available. Nothing to lose.
We tried to get Alex Mack
this year. He was still under contract in Cleveland last season.
One of my pet peeves is people saying "last year" when they mean only 6-10 months ago.

Can we call it last year in 9 days without drawing your ire?

So you've been counting down to the new year LOL. Of course you can because then it will be 2015.
Going and getting a wr in this free agency would be like spending money on a new kitchen sink while the pipes are flooding the basement.
I do not think Cobb should be a target for this team.
In holding this position, I do not indict Cobb much, if at all, as a player.
The Jaguars already have three promising young WRs, two of whom were drafted high.
This is not counting former first round pick Justin Blackmon.
Signing Cobb would only serve to slow the development of these players, while taking resources (money, roster space) that could be better allocated elsewhere.

I have no problem getting a receiver. The group could probably use a veteran. Doubt Cobb is that guy. I am thinking it would be more like a big bodied red zone threat.
Quote:Packers would let Cobb and Bulaga walk in free agency ?

I'll be surprised if the Packers let Randall Cobb get away. Cobb's playmaking skills and versatility are major assets.
On the other hand, I think there's around a 50-50 chance Bryan Bulaga hits the open market as an UFA and signs with another team. Bulaga has an extensive injury history. Including a recent Concussion. The Packers usually don't invest large dollars on their Offensive Line. Bulaga is a good fit for their system but he's the type of player the Packers will only go so far to retain. Bulaga probably would get a better offer from another team, if he chooses to test the open market.
It would make a lot of sense for the right price, I'm thinking something along the lines of what Eric Decker got last year from the Jets.
This would be money well spent IMO, our return game needs an upgrade and we need some experience at WR. That being said I would be surprised if he hits the market.

Isn't that taking principle and idealism a bit too far? I don't see him as a detriment to development or a money/roster drain at all.
I seriously doubt Hurns, Lee, or Robinson would be hurt in any way by bringing a veteran of Cobb's presence into the locker room. If anything, his presence this season would likely have put them on the field more, by giving them the rest they didn't have that likely lead to their injuries that limited some of their playing time.
Cobb would bring a responsible veteran leader into the locker room for them, and give the team an indispensable ST weapon.
WRs have almost gotten to be like DEs. With so few gameday actives, you want just about every one on the roster to be a star. Keep them fresh, and keep the opposition reeling.
I would rather sign this guy over Harvin if he became available.

I think everyone with a functioning cerebral cortex would.
The thing is, does Green Bay actually let him walk? I still lean to no on that.
The more I see from experts and whatnot the more I like Maclin. He should be cheaper than Cobb and can be that burner that could really help Bortles and stretch the field for the others. Think of adding Maclin and J. Thomas and I am getting frothy at the mouth thinking of the terror we should be able to do to others, with some O-Line help.
The problem with Maclin is that he is a No. 2 WR that wants to be paid like a No. 1.
Between he and Cobb, I take Cobb since both will want to be paid 9 Million.
Another option may be to trade a Rd 7 pick to Miami for Mike Wallace.
He will cost 10 Mil, but there is no signing bonus or any other money so the Jags can cut him loose or dangle a new contract with more bonus money in it for a reduction in the average salary per year.
The contract he signed with the Dolphins was never intended to reach full term.
Wallace is still the fastest or at least one of the fastest WRs in the NFL and his spot is the deep threat.
And Maclin has the ACL issue that Cobb never had
Got this feeling that the Jags will go after and sign (by overpaying - but I don't care) both Randall Cobb and Julius Thomas.

Add in Bulaga, or Barksdale at the worst, and our offense should drastically improve, maybe as high as top 12. Adding a premier TE, high class WR to help the young guys and Bortles, as well as a massive upgrade at RT. If Bortles is the guy, those 3 signings should be enough to allow him to take significant strides.

GB is not letting both hit free agency.

That's why I added the, or Barksdale, because I am predicting them to retain Bulaga, but not Cobb. I heard they like Adams and they may be content to give him a chance should Cobb walk. With a guy like Rodgers who makes his receivers better, protecting him is more important than giving him guys to throw to, don't misquote me though as both are important.
On NFL.com it says that Cobb wants at least $9M a year. Wonder if he will get that!?
