ESPN's QBR is a junk stat.

Case in point: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...f-rodgers/

Quote:Gabbert has a better record in the division too. And a better road record. At least in winning perfecntage.

See how misleading all these can be?
Exactly. More like MJD had more wins.
Blaine is a real American. ..

Quote:ESPN just showed a stat of the worse NFL QBRs since 2010 while talking about Cutler getting benched. Blaine Gabbert was on the list with 21.7...and Bortles was ahead of him with a 21.4 and only Jimmy Clausen had a worse QBR. I just don't understand how Bortles' QBR is so low. Yes he has 17 INTs to 10 TDs but that's really the only stat he's THAT subpar in. I mean, i don't know how you watch Bortles and say he is as bad as Gabbert. PFF and other advanced statistic websites also have Bortles as being really brutal. I just don't get it.

No need to worry, they don't get it either...

NH3...
BB5 < Gabbert...

NH3...
SMH, ESPN still trying to push that stupid QBR? It's terrible. I couldn't care less what a QB's QBR is, I care more about the old QB rating. It's not perfect, but it's better than the "new" one.
Cutler has Marshall and Jefferey .. just saying...

The fact that it emphasizes "clutchness" makes is even more ridiculous. I'd rather have a QB blow out a team from the opening kickoff, but a player with identical stats would have a better total QBR rating if they got those stats in the last few minutes.
Quote:I know the INTs bring it down, and Bortles has a bunch of them.

Do the pick 6s bring it down even more then just a standard INT would?

If that's the case, then that could be how his QBR is Gabbert bad, instead of just bad.
Based on how they explained it, yes the pick 6s would make it worse

I think the biggest differense between the two is completed pass and YPA. Gabbert couldn't even sniff 6, while Bortles hangs around upper 6's. I have been watching YPA for QB's for a while, it actually is a good stat to separate the good from the bad IMO.

Edit: After seeing that Blake's has dropped to 6.4 I am alittle worried. Thats not Gabbert bad, but that is definately not what you want.

This is the truth, anyone who thinks we would have won any games without MJD, and having Gabbert starting is kidding themselves, that team would have been lucky to have 2 wins (which is exactly what it did the next year when MJD was out). The funny thing is, if Garrard had stayed healthy, we might have been a 8-8 to 10-6 team, and Gene would have probably gotten at least one more year than he did. I miss Garrard, he was kind of good. And he could hit a slant. Its too bad he got injured. He was never as bad as some made him out to be.

Most of the real smart people called him "captain checkdown"  I thought he was just a guy.  He was usually pretty good about not turning the ball over but also lacked big play ability.  His 4th and 2 run in the playoffs is the epitome of his career.  Solid guy but will never take you to the superbowl.
The QBR was designed for Tim Tebow to show he is a NFL quality QB. It is a completley useless stat becuase it does not measure all the intangebles just cherry picks them

It's because the gm's of this team do a good job of never putting anything around our first round qb's every time we get one.

He isn't

I thought I had heard/read that the pick 6 would lower a QBR more then just an INT.

Then that really explains the low QBR.

What would the QBR be if he had ALL the exact same stats except there were zero pick 6s?

Also, ALL the same stats except change the INTs from 17 to 2?

I bet that would make a noticeable difference in his QBR..
Quote:Exactly. More like MJD had more wins.

Yep, and for all those that really want to compare BB to BG, just imagine BG, as a rookie, out there QBing this EXACT team, meaning no MJD, a pretty pitiful running game and several rookie WRs.

How do you think BG's stats would be in that scenario?

It would look a lot like it did with Henne out there, especially in that clots home game when it was 0-30 at the half.
They weight 4th Quarter drive numbers in their "QBR".  Our second half do nothing offense pushes their stat to the trash heap.  Gabbert's garbage time 4th quarter stats would put him above Bortles.  Honestly what does stats mean for a rookie QB?  How is it working out for RGIII?

Ask yourself one question:

Who will have the better career between BB and BG, from what you have seen so far?

You have seen them both play QB, so you have something to go on NFL playing -wise.
