Quote:I'm not even going to bother with this. It's clear the team has talent, however the O-Line is so pitiful that everything is offset.

Yup, we got talent.  That's no longer the main issue.

Yes, the O-Line is horrendous.  We've been saying how bad the O-Line is ALL season.  How come they aren't getting any better.  At the start of the season it was, "they will gell" and get better.  What happned to those "gellin'" guys?  Nobody is talking about "gelling" anymore.  Now we're just talking about or O-Line like they are Jell-O... HEY YOOOO!

Ha, that was pretty clever on my part...  I think I'll just leave it at that.  I was gonna go into a whole thing about coaches and, what not.

But that Gellin and Jell-O thing was probably the best thing I've written all day.  I'm gonna leave on that high note.

Tip your waitresses!
I remember TMD said it would take 3 games for them to gel. Never bought the gel thing. No talent is just that....no talent.

The world needs ditch diggers too.
Quote:Can somebody give me a logical reason that winning on Thursday is a good thing for this franchise? With a win, we essentially hand the tacks Winston or Mariota.

I have a terrible feeling about this.
Do you actually believe Winston is going to be a good NFL quarterback?

Hard to say. Haven't really seen him under duress, and he won't have pockets like he has if he is going in the top 10.

I think he has trouble reading defenses and I also think he's not coachable as he's always arguing with Fisher.  That's not going to fly with a guy like Whisenhunt.  As far as I'm concerned the Tacks or the Texans can have him.  They deserve what they get with that clown and no, I'm not a Gator homer either.  I casually watch college football.  I think his career will be short lived.  As far as having to face a good QB like Luck twice a year, well, we should build the defense for it.  We can't do anything about it other than prepare.

I would take Jameis over Mariota because he is a pocket passer.  Mariota much like Blaine and Johnny Football runs from the spread.  That doesn't seem to translate too well in the NFL.
Jonathan Football seemed taken back by the speed of some of these LBs today. Plays that he broke off in college were sacks today. Curious if this is Mariota as well.

Mr. Football, Esquire's arm looked pretty weak out there too...  The pick he threw towards the sideline looked like it took forever to get there...

I like Winston as a prospect but you make some good points. The majority of the throws I see him make are to wide open receivers which is not his fault, but they wont be that open in the NFL. Or he will throw a quick screen that will go for big play after big play, padding his numbers and making him look better than he is. Anyone who think Winston or Mariota are locks or far better prospects are a little nuts in my opinion.

I just don't see a can't miss prospect sitting at the top of the upcoming draft.  There's always a guy that some team will fall in love with though.  We'll see.  I hope we can turn our draft into more picks to beef up that O line and help the secondary out.  We need to get some vets in here to fill the holes too.  I think it's time for Caldwell/Khan to open up the checkbook.  No more of this bargain basement stuff.  We don't need to overspend and reach, but we need to get some solid players in here to go with the developing talent.  I mean look at the impact Clemons and Bryant have had on the D line.

It worked when we beat the Colts to ensure they draft Luck....

Wait...what... Wallbash

Do you see a Luck at the top of this draft?  Don't say Mariota because we probably won't have the first overall even if we tank.  Plus, I don't think we would take another QB that high anyway.  Best case is we could trade down and get more picks.

It doesn't matter..my point is we'd be better off as a franchise with the #1 overall pick.  Whether we draft someone or trade back and collect more picks, we would be better in the future having the #1 pick versus ~5.
Shorts and mercedes gotta go

I agree. Mariota would really scare me if the Jags were going to pick a QB. They won;t though. At least in the first round.
The Jaguars were in the game in the 4th quarter on the road against a likely playoff team.  If that's not improvement then I don't know what is.

You guys expecting a switch to flip and this team to be an automatic SB caliber team have realistic expectations.  The arrow is pointing up.  If you don't see that, then you don't want to see that.

I think most would be happy with playing a meaningful game in November, for starters.

Please explain improvement to me. We have to win 2 in a row to have the same 4-12 record as last year. Remove your teal glasses and math tells you that isn't improvement.

The draft will take care of itself.  The quality of the players drafted does not equal where they are taken in the draft when looking back.  I realize that better players are GENERALLY taken higher, but when we're talking about a few spots we'll likely still have a shot to get one of the best players in the draft if not the best as long as scouting and evaluations are better than most other teams.

Also, in looking back at NFL drafts in history I was not able to find an example where the 1st overall pick was traded away prior to the pick happening.  The only examples of it happening are after a team has taken a player that doesn't want to play for the team who picked him (i.e. Elway and Eli Manning).  And Tampa traded their 1st round pick in the '84 draft prior to the '83 season before they knew they would end up with the 1st overall pick in '84.  So if we end up with the 1st overall pick hoping to trade it away, I think the market for that will end up not being very good.

The point is, if Caldwell covets a guy high in next year's draft it won't likely be at QB and we'll probably have a shot to get whoever it is at 4 or 5 as the other teams picking in the top 5 need QBs and there are two big names coming out next year.  I think we'll be fine in the draft.  Winning 1 or 2 more games won't change that.  The "win the game and hand your division rival Andrew Luck" scenario is rare and I don't think Andrew Luck is in next year's draft.  And Andrew Luck has been throwing pick 6's lately.

Well I don't look at it that way. I see a team that took one step back (got younger at significant areas) to take two steps forward. This arrow is pointing up man..slowly..but it's going and you know it.
