i should have mentioned that St Aug is out of the question

anywhere in the JVille area?

arlington? beaches? southside?

I don't know when you're wanting to go look around, but the Luminaria is on the 21st over here and it's always cool to go look at the lights around here then. We did it on bicycles last year and it was a blast.

Other than that...I really don't know of anywhere that goes all out on the lights.
I like living in Florida now, but one of the things I miss in Ohio is seeing Christmas lights everywhere. It seems like almost nobody here puts strings of lights on and around their houses.

you live here, JW??

any info on where i can take the fam?

I can't see Gainesville being a hot spot to see Christmas lights.

In and around the Jax area there are a lot of good spots.
There's a place off Girvin road that's pretty cool. Just about the whole neighborhood puts up lights, its one of the better spots I've seen around town.

Is that the one where they all do the lights hanging from the trees straight down to the ground?

  • Loretto Rd between Old St Augustine and San Jose Blvd.
  • Arbor Glade Subdivision off of Old St. Augustine Road in between 95 and 295 in Mandarin. Watch Tower drive takes you into the subdivision. The theme is Santa’s Adventures Throughout the Year.
  • Ocean Pond Ct (behind Baptist Beaches Hospital) Jax Beach.
  • 10580 Crystal Springs Rd. Just off of I-10 at Chaffee. One house with several hundred thousand choreographed lights set to music. Definitely worth the drive. http://www.christmasoncrystalsprings.com
<p style="margin:0px;">The first two places are pretty close to one another and are really good.

They do...and I have a wife that showed me it.

Edit:  Also, google.

Yes, and it's quite impressive. I recommend it to anyone wanting to see a Christmas light extravaganza.

On Girvin Road, (Girvin connects McCormick and Atlantic Blvd.), much closer to McCormick (Wonderwood Expressway). The lights are in the neighborhood on both sides of the street (Girvin), so be sure to see both sides.

Very cool.

thanks, UCF!

Yeah girvin Is always pretty awesome, there are two neighborhoods off there who go big every year... Also i cant remeber excatly how to get there, but at the end of seminole in that nieghborhood on the west side of the road, there is dead end road in that place where the guy spends astronomical money and makes one of the sweetest displays ive ever seen, he tunes his lights into a radio station so u can pull up and listen to the radio and the lights play with the music. If u do end up going, its normaly packed but the guy stands out front and will tell u about anything u want to know about his house... Super friendly, i talked to him last year, the guy even gave out a few beers

It's a long drive, but Silver Springs State Park probably has a million lights. There are light displays throughout the park. Google the Jacksonville Zoo to see if they do the same thing.

I don't understand it. Why don't many people light their houses here?

Because people are purely lazy!

Why would people be lazier in Gainesville than Columbus? Very few people are too lazy to put lights up where I come from!
The only people with lights so far on my street are tkappa56 and me.  He loses in the lighting competition, and I've got a few additional items going up tomorrow.

Wow I had no idea you knew anyone's street address. Are you offline buddies too?

In Ohio we had bushes, two pear trees, and a lamp post in the front yard. Mom put multicolor string lights on the bushes and lamp post. That was not nearly as much as some other houses. We drove around the city just to look at lights.
